Colett House is a bit far from the square to walk. Furthermore, the place was nice and clean and the service was good. The braai is a bit small.
Collett House knows what the condition of the road is and should inform guests about it. The basics were missing and although they responded quickly to messages we could not get hot water.
The rooms were comfortable and clean.

Only complaint is a clogged drain and that the entire bathroom floods when you take a shower.

We really enjoyed the stay. Everything in their place in a spacious and neat house with a beautiful view. The towels are a bit on the small side, but the bedding is of very good quality. Wolfgang was very friendly and accommodating with our requests.

No Wi-Fi. No DStv. Difficult parking.
It appears as if your view is the mountain, but you are staring at the house. No view. There was 1 smooth, no can opener, no broom to sweep, or any way to remove ash from frying pan. There are also no chairs on the porch to sit outside. Highlight: Peaks the dog. Coming from the city one definitely goes to Clarens for quiet and rest which unfortunately we did not experience as it borders the informal neighbourhood.
Collett house has all the amenities you need. I wouldn't spend more than two nights there.

This is our second time there, will always stay there when we travel that way.
Lavender Cottage is well equipped and tastefully furnished. Friendly hostess. Wonderful garden and peaceful setting with wonderful wildlife. Close to well-equipped shopping centers. Collett House well equipped, very nice surroundings and Clarence has interesting little shops and good restaurants.
Lots of space for everyone, the hearth was a winner! Beautiful view of the mountains, peaceful surroundings. Will pay a visit there again.

We had a wonderful stay. Nice view, clean and tidy. The housekeeper, Jane, was very helpful and friendly. Calm atmosphere.
All I didn't like were the people who stayed above us, if they walk then the floors crack. And the person upstairs snored me awake Sunday morning at seven thirty. But the service and view and comfort were excellent. Nice king size bed. It was heavenly. Then we didn't get the WiFi code or alarm code either. Also nice thank you.
Cottage was very tidy, would prefer full floor carpet (although there are loose Persian rugs) for winter months instead of regular cement floor. Just as curtains are preferred at the bed's top window, blinds do not keep the sun out in the early morning. But will stay there again. (Bed lamp sparks when switched on) just be careful not to cause a fire.
Collet is fine for sleeping one night.

Lovely view. Rock cabin needs maintenance - there was no gas to make tea. Electric kettle and microwave needed for self-catering. Room spacious, very nice bedding. No side tables. Bathroom door cannot close. No curtains for top windows so light comes in at sunrise. Electric gate has no sensor. Wet room not suitable for small bathroom.

Was very neat and clean. The woman who has to show rooms is just very confused. A bit close to the location. But perfect for a quick sleepover.
No door to shower. After 1 person takes a shower, the bathroom floor is soaking wet. On the last of the 3 nights we spent here, there was a problem with the geyser, and a freezing cold shower hit our front land that evening and the next morning!
The accommodation was very tidy on arrival and it is fully equipped. Everything was available for our needs.

A very neat and beautiful house with all you need and a great braai area outside.
We were welcomed by Jane, after letting the owner know that we were in front of the gate, she was so helpful and friendly. The rooms were very clean and the rest of the area was very clean. Linen was also very neat. It was truly an 11/10 situation! Will definitely stay there again!
It's a spacious neat apartment in a well secure premises with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The bathrooms although neat needs some attention.
If you are going to stay there ask Wolfgang to take you up to the mountain cottage from where there is an beautiful hike up the mountain. Or you can stay below and let the surroundings and nature soothe your nerves. That is what holiday is for!

The map location was incorrect. If you add Collett House, Google Maps took us to another address. The cottage is really very pretty and I liked the rustic look. The only problem we experienced was with the location.
Clean and tidy. Just leave incredibly cold because the floor is raw cement.
Nothing against the owner of the cottage, he was super friendly en everything was neat. Problem is we wanted to get some rest away from the city, unfortunately the property is right next to a township with shacks right next to the cottage. The noise was unbearable, we couldn't sleep and it went on till 12 o'clock in the evenings until you hear the cops arrive, this is definitely not a location for people who want to rest and FIY I am a deep sleeper, stuff like this don't usually bother me. Sorry for this review but I would have wanted to know before I arrived that this was the situation, this was my first time in Clarens so we had no clue what to expect.

Magnificent, amazing, awesome and more than we expected for the price. Quality of the highest standard. I was more than satisfied and will definitely go again. We were there for a wedding and we all agreed that it was the best accommodation.
This is a beautiful place to stay in Clarens. We as a family really enjoyed it and it is really very spacious for a family of 6. The layout inside is also great and I would like to use this again in the winter time to come and look at the snow. It is off the main street and very quiet in the upper town of Clarens. What a nice place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Clarens and the beautiful Golden Gate and the trip through the Free State. The view of the mountain from Collett House is beautiful. The house is very well furnished, neat and clean with a lovely large kitchen and a nice barbecue patio. Wolfgang is very friendly and helpful and I would recommend Collett House anytime for a family break or for a larger group who also want to use Lavender Cottage.
It was a very nice weekend and I just want to mention the following aspect as a comment and not as a complaint: the hot shower in the smaller of the 2 bedrooms was never hotter than cold lukewarm, and everyone just in the master bedroom takes a shower. Maybe just a temperature setting on the gas geyser that needs looking at?
The owner always welcomed us kindly and invited us if there was something that bothered us.
Lavender Cottage is a large one room plus shower, perfect for two or a family of four. Close to location so you can hear "township" noises at night, which may keep light sleepers awake. We felt safe and had all we needed. Flatscreen TV and DStv with sports channels was great!
Collette House was very neat and has the most beautiful view and the owner is very helpful and friendly!
The guesthouse is far from town. The noise is quite irritating. The owner was friendly and the bedding was clean and good quality. Beds were comfortable. Will recommend it to families with children. There is a safe place to play.
Would definitely recommend anyone to visit Collett House and Lavender, it's so cosy. I have no complaints and will definitely stay there again.

We eat and enjoy the coal stove, because this time of year it is nice and cold. Very nice owner... he waited until we arrived after seven. The linen was very nice and clean.
The property is very close to the township. Also, there is no privacy - the house & cottage open up onto each other - one cannot open the curtains or doors with any privacy. The owner stays above Collett House and you can hear everything he does and every step he (and the dogs) take. This makes it feel very invasive. Pleasant but feels as though we have invaded the owner's space.
Living in one room with a separate toilet is not what we expected. The bed and linen was clean, but the bathroom door wouldn't close properly and there were no tables to put anything on. Also a wardrobe without coat hangers is an ornament rather than functional.
