My sister and I really enjoyed the stay. The history of the house and its beautiful furniture and stained glass windows was an experience.
It was great. Restful. Love their dogs. Moreover, their dogs immediately accepted our dogs and played happily. Bruce is a very pleasant person and a jack of all trades. Had a very nice breakfast too, there is something of everything to choose from. We will definitely stay there again.
Comfortable and enjoyable stay.
This is the most wonderful old house designed by Herbert Baker and steeped in history - loved it.
Lovely overnight stay with the family. Classic farmhouse feel and very comfy beds. Friendly dogs made the stay even more awesome.
Very cold and windy, electric blanket much appreciated.
The Herbert Baker mansion is approximately 110 plus years old. Lovely peaceful atmosphere, with the most beautiful antique furniture. Plus, dog child could go along. The host received us kindly and early the next morning when we hit the road to Pretoria, he was there again. Thank you for your beautiful place to stay. Would highly recommend it. He also gave us a bigger place. Appreciate!
Arrived late and well rested. Off again early.
Beautiful place and perfect room. Breakfast every morning is a winner. The views never cease to be beautiful. Host spoiled us. Special arrangements made to make our stay wonderful. Will definitely visit here again.
What a wonderful experience in this old world milieu! The stay was lovely and comfortable. Of course, the natural beauty also adds to the experience. Thank you very much for the hospitality and the opportunity to have a taste of the history in this beautiful mansion.
Had a wonderful stay at Conville Bed and Breakfast. Bruce and his family were so hospitable, and breakfast was a treat. Dog friendly and freedom to walk and stretch your legs. Beautiful home and place to stay. Will be back.
Wonderful experience in a characterful old fashioned home. Available space and old fashioned/antique furniture are indescribable. Breakfast was a bonus.
Lovely place to stay.
Lovely guest house just outside Aliwal North. Excellent half way stop on the way to East London.
Nice stay in old historic building.
Fantastic stay! The host is incredibly friendly and helpful.
The old mansion of more than a 100 years old is something to see! Bruce is a friendly and pleasant host who enjoys talking and telling about the origin of the house. The porch overlooks a beautiful large garden. In the evening, with the sun setting, we had a barbecue on the porch. The breakfast in the large dining room is the perfect start to a day at Aliwal North. The tranquility of the place brings a unique experience.
Friendly host. Lovely old house. Lots of history.
Great overnight stay.
Beautiful historical farmhouse. Setting is lovely.
Quiet and nice place to stay with necessary facilities and good breakfast.
Lovely woofies and friendly owners. This property has great potential.
The friendly dogs, the porch, the view and large lawn are all a delight.
We had the most memorable time with you. Will definitely stop over there regularly on my way to East London in the coming months. This is the most amazing place, a gem in Aliwal North.
Place very nice and quiet. Host very friendly and willing to provide information. Will definitely stay there again if I'm in the area.
A great stay. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended.
Cornville Bed and Breakfast is a historic house with a very rich history, luxury overnight facilities and above all a host with a heart for what he does. Read the stories, look at the finish of sheaves on the house, the seeds that germinate in copper geets on doorknobs and relive the rich past of seed farmers on the edge of the Orange River.
Pleasant and friendly accommodation.
Very reasonably priced and perfect for a one-night stopover. Family owned going back three generations. Built in the style of an old Scottish castle. A little tired around the edges but adds to the charm. No Wi-Fi in the bedrooms.
What a stunning place. So nice to wake up to the sounds of nature. Just a pity I didn't have more time to walk around a bit. Very friendly owners.
Beautiful old house, very quiet in the evening and nice and quiet. The interior is a bit dated, mattresses and linen are a bit old. No bottles of water, milk or WiFi in the rooms, so just stop at a shop ahead of time if you want to make tea or coffee in the morning. Also make sure you book one of the en suite rooms unless you want to walk down the hall with your dressing gown and vanity case like in a hostel.
Old charm accomodation which needs attention, no provision for alternative lighting during loadshedding.
Front bedroom en suite had no water in the hot tap. My wife had a cold shower but I could not follow as the shower floor was full. The next morning the floor was still full. The fan in the bedroom with a two-pin plug but no adaptor. Bedside light same problem. Lights over the bed missing globe. Light over dresser blown. Tissue box in bathroom empty. Dogs barked all night.
We were received very friendly and helpful. Lots of rest, went for a walk with the owner's dogs! It felt like we were at our own home. Breakfast was perfect with "personal touch". We will stay there again!
Wonderful stay with the lovely walks to the Orange River a particular highlight - for our dog especially, as all the friendly Conville dogs joined us and demonstrated the best place for a paddle in the river. We have already recommended staying at Conville Bed and Breakfast to several friends.
Lovely location and historic farm atmosphere where you don't have to rely on electronic entertainment for an unforgettable experience.
Nice and private with a big room and plenty of warm bedding.
The house is a piece of living history. Sir Herbert Baker design, high ceilings, thick walls, wide wood-clad windows. Original Scottish designed furniture to match the glazed windows. Cute woof children, nice breakfast and friendly and hospitable host couple. Nice overnight stay.
Conville has a wonderful old-worldly charm. They have the most divine doggies that I just loved.

Sorry the website does not make it very clear that the 2 x single bed room does not have an en suite bathroom.
Special experience to be in such an old "Mansion" that takes you back in time. Feel completely like you are in a "movie". Friendly good service and sharing of knowledge and information. Dogs give homely atmosphere and lovely surroundings.
It's a lovely place, with comfortable rooms and a beautiful environment.
The beautiful, original Herbert Baker House is a gem and an attraction in itself. The guest house is located next to the Orange River and the view is exceptional. The room was very comfortable and spacious and we had a great rest. Would definitely stay there again.
I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone traveling through Aliwal North.
Very peaceful atmosphere.
Had a great time. Will visit again.
Extremely well located with a special atmosphere and host. Very neat facilities and good breakfast.
If you like nostalgia, this is your home.
A beautiful historical home, in a great setting. Would have been great if we could have eaten dinner there as the town does not offer much other than the normal junk food takeaway.
The house was beautiful and the owners warm and welcoming and went out of their way to help us.
Would definitely recommend Conville B&B to guests! Friendly host and the environment is beautiful. Breakfast was delicious. Secure parking and most beautiful antique house.
This elegant residence is located on a farm just next to Aliwal North. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The house has a very interesting and rich history with beautiful finishes and antique furniture. The breakfast was tasty and we went for a walk on the farm to the river. It's just a shame we could only stay one night and would really like to go back again for a longer visit.
Conville House offers visitors the opportunity to spend time in a grand old house in a quiet and secluded area just a few kilometres from the centre of Aliwal North.
Nice atmosphere. Breakfast delicious!
Loved the old home. Very homely, safe and happy home. Perfect for an overnight stop-over. We even saw the house on our way home a week later from across the river.
We had a great time and slept great.

Conville is located approximately 2 km outside Aliwal North. Despite the information on the website, meals are not provided, not even with prior reservation.
Nice farm, antique house, furniture and experience.
The building is approximately 112 years old and the signs of age are visible everywhere. Despite that, it is still worth spending the night there.
There are no comfy chairs to sit on with a small table to put your tea on. No rusks with morning coffee. Only 1 bedside lamp for 2 beds. Not enough liquid handsoap. No TV.
Very dark room with poor lighting, the mattresses are extremely uncomfortable, no milk for coffee and bathroom separate from bedroom. Not a comfortable accommodation but a beautiful old farm building.
The house is very nicely maintained and has a rich history. We walked to the Orange River and enjoyed ourselves very much. The breakfast was very nice and I recommend the place to everyone.
If you love history and antique furniture/home, you will enjoy and appreciate this place.

Covid bookings obviously impacted.
The location was very good. Quiet environment, very beautiful. The breakfast was good, and the aunt very friendly.
Excellent overnight accommodation on the banks of the Orange River in a very beautiful old building. Very gracious and helpful hosts.
Exceptional place with old-worldly charm that everyone wouldn't like.
The farm and house are beautiful, you step back in time everywhere you look it's wow! It was a great privilege for us to be able to spend the night there and the people just make it so special!
We enjoyed our stay at Conville. We liked the old world atmosphere and tranquil garden. There was a heat wave and air con would've helped.
Thank you for the hospitality. We were amazed by the history of the house. We relaxed in the bird-ruch garden with the family dogs.
The access way needs some upkeep.
Exceptional house! Delicious breakfast. There was a problem with hot water, but the owners made a plan.
Neat and clean overnight accommodation. Friendly service and nice outside area.
Upon arrival, we looked at the setup very skeptically and wondered if we had made the right decision to sleep there. Back of building looked more like a building from a Dracula movie. However, once we saw the front, inside and our room it was a different view. The stay was pleasant, people very friendly and the breakfast delicious. The house on the inside from the classical era of heavy wooden venters, door frames and furniture. Something you don't see everyday anymore.
Extremely close to Aliwal, yet far enough to escape the city buzz. Nice view and peaceful surroundings. Quiet and private. Well equipped.
We enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing overnight stay at the lovely Conville B&B on the outskirts of Aliwal North. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a comfortable brass-bed. Yes, as some have suggested, the building is a little “tired” looking, but in our opinion that can be forgiven, given it’s age. It’s a gracious stay, with furnishings to match. We were charmed, and would not hesitate to stay again in this beautiful home.
It is a stately old house (1908) that has been beautifully renovated, very spacious each with its own outside door and bathroom. The surroundings offer peace and quiet as only a farm can offer. Service is excellent, even got a take away breakfast as we wanted to drive early.
Homely, yet professional service by members of the family who still own this marvellous historical homestead. Comfortable beautifully preserved period furniture - and a real farm breakfast - added immense value to a most enjoyable two-night stay. Definitely to be repeated.
Lovely home which has been in the family for 3 generations and has all the charm of a bygone era. Although there are no "mod-cons" the furnishings are probably original and the rooms were comfortable. The hostess was friendly and informative and breakfast in the lovely dining room was a treat.
The owners were friendly and they made us feel at home - we were treated like family. The farm atmosphere and charm of the house is beautiful.
Very interesting house that has a history to tell. I hope it can stand the test of time. Linda is an excellent host that made us very welcome. Well done all round.
It's a beautiful historic old house and nicely equipped. The room is furnished with beautiful antique pieces of furniture, but a bit dusty. The garden looks a little unkempt - possibly due to the recent drought. Definitely good value for money.
Quiet homely and country feel. Spacious and clean rooms with very clean linen. Great experience for any family! Nice breakfast served with kindness!
I was with a fellow farmer/friend at Conville. I will boldly take my spouse with me on a next occasion. Very nice environment and decor.
The house and surroundings made me think back a long way. A 110 year old house in such condition should be respected and appreciated. We were the only guests, so it was very peaceful and quiet.
See the stars.
It was a lovely, old worldly experience, with all the glory you'd expect from it. The house and furniture have been looked after with such care. The history of the place is remembered and relayed with love and appreciation by the original family. It truly was an honour that the family were willing to share these precious stories with guests. The time just went by too fast. Thank you very much and thank you to LekkeSlaap for excellent service rendered.
Was kindly received and the accommodation, room and breakfast were delicious.
Stunning place with lots of history.
We arrived when it was bitterly cold. Chopped wood lay by the gate and we made a fire in the hearth. We were then told that no fires were allowed in the rooms, but they had fireplaces! There were 2 rooms and we were 3 guests. The main bedroom was decorated with dusty and skew family portraits. The other room had 2 iron beds from the concentration camps. I looked for more blankets in the cupboard and discovered a bric-a-brac shop full of many blankets and things. I was told that there was no water available, but as soon as it was available they would put on the geyser. We went to go eat and was away for 2 to 3 hours. When we got back nothing had been done about the hot water situation and I want to know why the problem wasn't sorted out when wer were gone. The hostess suggested that we find different accommodation. We already paid though and wrote it off as a terrible experience. The morning we were told that the geyser was broken. We had to use a kettle to get hot water so we could wash. The house is falling apart and has terrible cracks and it desperately needs a good dusting. As you drive there you see the untidiness of the place with the camper under a tree. It is clear that this place needs to be renovated and that the owners cannot keep it in a good condition. They should not be letting it to guests.
We were very happy with the service and facilities. Thank you!
Very nice, characterful guest house. The service was great and it's nice and quiet and beautiful.
Affordable, historic and tranquil setting with neat accommodation. Easy access on the outskirts of town and perfect as an overnight venue. Lovely experience.
Historic atmosphere in peaceful farm setting. Well equipped room and bathroom.
Wonderful farm setting. Beautiful old home.
Lovely, quiet place away from the noise of the town. Close to the main route. Spacious rooms. Antique feel with its dark wood furniture. Spacious green lawn for relaxing after a long drive.
See the stars.
