The 4 rustic cottages include Fisherman’s Cottage, Oak Tree Cottage, The Milkshed, and Hideaway Cottage. The cottages offer romantic fireplaces and electric blankets for those chilly evenings, and are fully furnished, and equipped with linen and towels. The cottages are serviced daily. Fisherman’s Cottage can accommodate 4 to 5 guests in 2 bedrooms, Hideaway and Oak Tree cottages are suitable for couples. The Milkshed can accommodate 6 guests.
The farm offers 300 hectares of wide open space to explore, and guests can enjoy hiking trails, gentle walks, mountain biking, bird watching, and river fishing on a catch and release basis at an additional charge. There are also picnic areas on the farm, and guests can explore 7 km of the Little Caledon River and caves. The town of Clarens is 9 km away and offers restaurants, pubs, art galleries, and coffee shops. Other attractions include the Cherry Festival and Asparagus farm tours in Ficksburg, bushman paintings, Clarens Golf Course, and the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Activities in the area include abseiling, white water rafting, horse riding, and quad biking.

Thank you for the lovely weekend. The hosts were a delight and always ready to help if needed. Small and intimate rondawel/cottage, but exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed our stay a lot and would definitely stay here again.
Unfortunately the wifi is not available in the rooms and we had to sit on the farmhouse porch to get any wifi. In the freezing cold it was a bit tricky. The host recommended that we watch the rugby in the Golden Gate hotel (about 9 km from the guest house). It was a pleasant experience, especially when the host Brian also joined us. We hung out like old friends and it was a nice experience.
Nice big open space with the most beautiful view over the mountains. Quiet, yet close to go to town soon.
Was an amazing stay. Relaxed and near enough to the town to get everything you need.
We stayed in the Oak Tree Cottage which has a comfortable rondavel feel with a thatched roof keeping the room cool on hot days. The kitchen area is quite small, but was enough to cook and wash dishes. The bar fridge was also just big enough to keep our few days worth of food cool. The bathroom with a shower was pretty neat. The farm itself is breathtaking with a peaceful river and beautiful willow trees under which one can have a picnic. We walked the farm a few times and went jogging in the mornings. It always felt safe. Brian and Lin and their 3 dogs (Tessa, Bently and Genius) were very welcoming and looked after us to make sure we had everything we needed and that we knew where we could go for a walk on the farm and have a picnic. They also gave us suggestions of where we could go for coffee and eat out. We will definitely stay at the De Molen Guestfarm again if we go in the direction of Clarens again.
Great escape from the busy world. Enjoyed every moment on the farm. Delicious, beautiful hiking trails that our little body also enjoyed immensely. Thanks Lin it was amazing!
There are some issues with maintenance of the cottage which I believe they are sorting out and the WiFi needs to be fixed. Not visible in photos.
We have due to ended up with a double booking at De Molen. Lynne, and later Brian, were very welcoming, and we had a great stay in the cozy Oak Tree Cottage. However, the hiking trail to the overhanging cave and the river for fly fishing was our highlight. We will definitely make a visit there again.
We have toured South Africa for three months and stayed in numerous self catering accommodation. The most expensive we stayed in was the cottage on De Molen Farm at R1500 per night but it was probably the third least luxurious. The decor was very dated. There is a large crack in the wall from ceiling to window that is very ugly. There is no outside seating that is not overlooked. It has no TV. I understand that Clarens has become a tourist hotspot. But we stayed in cottages in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay etc that are in more popular tourist places for less money and far more luxury. The host and hostess were very friendly and helpful.
Scenic place and the best waterfall, als was so clean with river coming down. Accommodation very comfortable and clean. Best welcome and very friendly thank you very much for the best weekend.

Every need catered for, very spacious and comfortable. A quiet, tranquil farm setting. Ideally situated between Clarens and Golden Gate. Drive straight off the R712. Great walks, hikes and climbs on the property, even has its own cave that can sleep 3000 sheep, running water and all!

Wonderful peaceful accommodation in a beautiful area, with very friendly people and nice walking routes and braai facilities with braai wood. Close to Clarens for restaurants and other interesting shops.
Easy to find and just a short distance from town. Very quiet and calm, we felt like we were the only people there. We arrived late at night, our hostess was accommodating and friendly. Our room was already nice and warm and ready for us to lay down down our tired bodies. I recommend De Molen for any overnight stay.
