DeMist River CampHuts is an off-the-grid campsite situated on the banks of the Gamtoos River. The camphuts is set on a working citrus farm, at the gateway to the Baviaanskloof but still on the main road and easily accessible by any small vehicle. In fact, you will be able to drive right up to the river.
Although the camp is off-the-grid with no electricity, it does offer running water, flushing toilets, and nice hot showers, all bush camping style. Campsites are also available on the premises.
Whether you would like to get away from the hustle and bustle of the rat race for a day or 7 and just come and relax close to nature with a book, or just want to sit around and breathe fresh air, you will be satisfied.
The farm offers catch-and-release fishing, and plenty of hiking trails, and for bird watchers, there are several small bird species, as well as a residential fish eagle pair.
You will be close enough for a quick trip to Patensie town to stock up on provisions, or if you need a change of scene you can visit Jeffrey's Bay for the day.

We slept very well in those wooden houses. The showers and toilet were clean and had nice hot water.

Absolutely loved my one night stay here. I stayed in the small cabin, and it was perfect. Easy to get to, so close to where I am, but felt like a real escape to nature. Had the best sleep with there being no distractions and only the sounds of the trees, birds and nature. Love that you can park your car right next to your cabin, so you aren't lugging anything around. Powerful warm outside showers, comfy bed and awesome braai area next to cabin. Will definitely be coming back, seeing as it is literally down the road from me. Cute little nursery to buy some plants too. Thanks so much, Aimée.

We could enjoy quiet evenings and explore the Baviaanskloof and Patensie from there.
We really had a wonderful time, thank you. If you had to ask me to pick fault, it would be tough, but the only thing I found missing was a mirror by the bathroom basin that I could check that I didn't look like a nightmare after my shower.
We traveled extensively by caravan and visited a few campsites on our holiday, but De Mist was definitely our favourite. The relaxing atmosphere by the river was fantastic. And the "open plan" showers are unique.

Was very nice. Toilet/bathroom steps may just need step loans. Unsafe for an elderly person to go up and down it.
