I can definitely recommend the accommodation. I had never been to Philippolis, and the beautiful surroundings were a pleasant surprise for me. The staff are very competent, friendly and helpful and together with the lovely atmosphere of a peaceful little town, it really makes you feel welcome. I am glad that I chose Die Groenhuis Guest House as my place to stay on the recommendation of a friend.
Very comfortable and peaceful accommodation with a wonderful pool in which to cool off. Enjoyed an excellent dinner at the local hotel!

Someone in town asked me where I was staying. When I replied that I was staying at the Green House, she said it was the best guest house in town. I don't know the other guesthouses, but was very pleased to stay here. Here is silence and peace, exactly what I came looking for. I felt very safe, and enjoyed the bleating of the sheep and the crowing of the rooster, and the cattle and horses in the field across the road. Even the birds are friendlier here than in the city, they go about their business without being disturbed. True peace.
We had a really nice sleepover on the way back from vacation. The house is beautiful, everything was clean and tidy. Even our two dogs were welcome and they enjoyed the lawn after the long day in the car.

The Green House exposes one to the rich history of Philippolis and the surrounding area. The style, dressing, food and hospitality remind one of the rich heritage of the region. The traditional peasant food is excellent! Will definitely return and spend more time as well.
We got dinner which was really very very nice. Our road food for breakfast wasn't too bad either! We felt spoiled the whole time! Can definitely recommend Die Groenhuis to any travellers.

Drive the back roads and take the Jagersfontein turnoff at Bloem when coming from Jhb. No trucks and a smooth ride with beautiful scenery.
We were cordially and warmly received. We immediately felt at home. If you want to organize a family weekend for family who are people of the heart, this experience is unbeatable. We were able to make wonderful memories. Something we will do again without a doubt.
Safe social distancing in the OFS, great accommodation, great people and service. Well recommended - Phillipolis is a gem in the Free State having played lockdowns to its advantage with the result being a safe socially distanced environment offering good service, value and a degree of sophistication.

We had a great time at the Green House. The place is very nicely decorated. There are the most beautiful works of art. And that porch! That stoep is made for long visits and good conversation. Or just be quiet. It's heavenly. It's clean. Plus, the food is better than anything even your Grandma ever made. Go taste it yourself.
Jens makes an effort to inform his guests about the town. Helpfulness and kindness are non-negotiable.

Recommended as a halfway house from the Northern Cape or Eastern Cape. If there is time, stay two nights and enjoy the culture and history of the town and surroundings. By no means miss Thembi's cooking prowess.

Lovely to sleep in the town, but to feel as if you are on the farm. Accommodation is located in a nice and quiet location. Good facilities and nice porch to sit on. Delicious plate of food ordered from a local lady on the recommendation of the host. Will definitely drive to Philippolis again, and then stay longer.

We loved Groenhuis, everything you need is provided for, the decor and furniture were really stunning, as was the lovely cotton bedding and the setting was just perfect out in the country. Great hospitality, super accommodation.
Overslept one night on vacation. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and the surroundings are very peaceful and the guest house had all the basic necessities. We can recommend dinner and breakfast at the Rooi Ooi. Overall very satisfied and would definitely recommend.
Philippolis is a very small old town with all the necessary, what you need if needed. Good for sleepover and for a view days stay if you want to brake away from city life and get some peace of mind with resting. Because that's what you can do there.

Lovely house in Philippolis with off street parking. Self catering in small kitchen, 4 rooms can accommodate large family or party. Electricity problems in town can cause a bit of trouble with self catering. Hopefully town council will have this sorted out.
Philippolis was our first stop from JHB to Cape Town. My family and I were pleasantly surprised. The antique furniture etc. took me and my husband back to childhood. It makes you appreciate the little things in life again. Uncle Jens was very helpful and kind, thank you very much.

Wonderful stay - just too short - in Groenhuis. What a beautiful area in our country. So many anecdotes from Philippolis to read in the Green House. Was able to rest wonderfully before the next day's long drive. House had everything we needed and the garden was a wonderful discovery trip for the children. Had a great meal at Birdhaven, a stone's throw from the guest house.
Our family stayed at Die Groenhuis on the way back from our holiday. We were received by the owner who warmly welcomed us. The house has everything you need but is a bit on the old side. For those who like the old farmhouse feel, this is the place for you. The road to the village shakes a lot so drive slowly. But overall we had a comfortable night's rest to safely complete our second leg of our journey.
