49 guests' feedbackIncredibly peaceful, and quiet environment. Definitely home away from home for us in the future.
Was a peaceful place with the most beautiful furniture for me.
Very nice and we feel like new people.
Farmhouse with a large hearth for a good time and friendly home owners.
Expected more privacy.
Yes, nice stay. But there were no cups to drink tea from, only plastic cups that were not in good condition.
Very pleasant, back to minimise. Loved to be in nature, very fond of the 2 sheepdogs.
Could wake up to farm sounds. Fed sheep and had only fresh air and rest.
The owner was very helpful, without disturbing our privacy at all. House was neat and clean. It is an old building with thick walls and a very nice cozy kitchen with a large hearth. Firewood was available at a reasonable rate. It is close to Caledon as well as the Heaven and Earth Valley, yet it is far enough off the beaten track to be very safe and very quiet. The 3 km dirt road is nice and suitable for a normal sedan vehicle. The house is completely big enough for 5 people. Very good value for money for 4 or 5 people.
Friendly and hospitable reception. Great environment to be outside and active!
The romantic Veepos has everything one needs to relax and spend long hours in front of the fireplace. The privacy one enjoys in the unit has definitely been a winner. Will definitely come here again.
So really worth breaking away to Die Koringhuis, the most breathtaking place to stay.
For a nice break away from the city this place is perfect.
I love the feeling that Die Koringhuis gives, feels like you're going back in time but still has the modern amenities.
We stayed in Veepos, on the same farm, beautiful one bedroom cottage.
The unit I stayed in needs some attention to the entrance door open gaps needs to attend to and washbasin which drains water slowly, did notify the host about the basin.
Thank you Joan and Xavier for the care - especially the crates of wood you came and put down so we could make the fire in the cold. We really appreciated your care. The gas stove and geyser were great.
The absence of hot water was a problem. There are a few gaps though - canopy over entrance needed so you don't have to stand in the rain to open and a little porch on one side to have a shelter to braai or just sit outside to enjoy the beautiful surroundings to consider There is also no table to eat at or play games on if it rains.
Nostalgic. Must understand history. One bathroom for 2 families is a problem.
The place is beautiful with beautiful views and friendly reception.
Such a gorgeous location. The photos don't do it justice! The bed is the most comfortable we have ever slept in and the decor truly made you feel like you were in another time, very luxuriours as well and tastefully done. The owner welcomed us graciously with a fire already lit inside the kitchen hearth - just wonderful arriving here.
The Koringhuis is a gem. The house is spacious, well maintained and makes you feel at home immediately. In the evenings we could sit next to the large fireplace in the kitchen and socialize and in the morning sit on the spacious porch and marvel at the picture-perfect view over the valleys and mountains. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the freedom offered by the farm did them good. The hospitality of the host family was remarkable - really a fantastic experience. We would recommend the Koringhuis to families with children or couples without children looking for peace and quiet - this was an experience we had not come across many before. We'll see you again soon.
Very nice stay. Very peaceful and beautiful surroundings.
Nice place to relax in peaceful silence.
Very nice people, very beautiful, old house and lovely nature.
Our weekend at Die Koringhuis was exactly what we wanted - farm, sheep, fields, incredibly beautiful view and the wind through the eucalyptus trees! The accommodation is very neatly furnished and comfortable. Beautiful old furniture that is neatly maintained and a comfortable bed. The fireplace in the kitchen is lovely when the evenings are cool. Neat dirt road (any car can drive there) and so peaceful.
Very hospitable and helpful without being overwhelming. Very neat, close enough to town, far enough to get away.
Fantastic place to break away from busy life.
My daughter got to see sheep being shawn, collect eggs from the chicken couple. Magnificent views. Wonderful trail runs. Awesome cosy fire in the kitchen.
We stayed in Veepos which was well equipped and outstandingly planned.
Nice view and tranquility, but for the price one expects a place without cobwebs and dust even if it is an old building. I would think the place should charge a maximum of R800 a night.
Die Koringhuis has everything you need to wind down from busy Cape Town. No TV, limited cell reception, great rural farm feeling, and excellent wine farms just around the corner!
We had a great time - from the huge fireplace to reading through the 1967 Sarie and Huisgenoot, the old artifacts throughout the house, the sheep and peacocks on your doorstep as well as the leisurely walks with the two resident border collies. We unfortunately did not get to meet Joan and Xavier as they were away for the weekend. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and to rejuvenate the soul.
There is a challenge with ants but it is related to drought. Taller glasses will be welcomed. General opinion is that it is a cool place with nice people.
We had a wonderful stay and relaxed in this beautiful historic cottage. Great walks and mountain climbing. Delicious indoor and outdoor barbecue with all the basic necessities. Perfect place to switch off and still close to all the wonderful pastures of the Hemel en Aarde valley. Also so nice and close to Cape Town, we will drive back early on Monday morning and be on time for work which made our little vacation just that little bit longer. Joan and Xavier were friendly and helpful. Wish we could go every weekend.
At the end of the dirt road to the farm, on the last bend before the homestead, we stop for a herd of sheep standing in the road and grazing. Slowly we drive through to the homestead where we find the farmer's wife building a stone wall! It was a real homecoming to the farm so straight from my childhood. The house is a simple, detached building next to the farmstead. Probably was a storehouse for years and the structure was probably erected when the French Huguenots landed in South Africa. It has a real old fashioned feel to it. No modern frills here. After the birdsong and morning light woke us up, we received on the first morning a complimentary plate with shallow-baked fat cakes. Together with the butter and farm jam a feast on its own. What a nice start to the weekend. Stroll across the farm or sit on the porch and gaze over the rolling hills. Ride a bike or read a book. This view near the top of Shaw's Pass is breathtaking and timeless. The accommodation too. If you really get tired of the perfect picture, you can take the short drive through the Hemel en Aarde (Heaven on Earth!) valley to Hermanus. But let it go. After the Koringhuis, Hermanus is tinsel gold. The simple life is better. Think about the kind of house your grandmother lived in and you will know what to expect. Iron kettle beds, simple furniture and thick, thick walls that stand at an angle. Each door is different and is recycled from old farm goods. Windowsills are deep enough to sit in. Beds look old fashioned, but sleep well. The bedrooms were clean and tidy. The night dead silent with no roar of cars. Just what one needs after a long day in the city's noise. The farm kitchen is simply equipped, but has everything needed to prepare a meal. No Yuppie Chef here. Adding an apricot kernel floor and a bed in the kitchen is a unique idea. Wish my house was big enough for that! The bathroom is graciously modern and well equipped. A nod to the past is the toilet with the container on the roof and a chain hanging from above. There are no nasty old fashioned cremations here. All water comes from the local borehole and there are no water restrictions here yet. Together with electricity throughout, these are the only signs that one does not find oneself in the years tokea. The small living room/front room was equipped with a fireplace, but it was unused. The kitchen is a lovely place to hang out with its own large fireplace for the cold winter evenings. Outside, a portable braai was done on a wheelbarrow for those who simply cannot live without a little meat on the coals. Bring books, board games and your family. Leave your stress and problems at home. There is an old travelers proverb that leads: "Take twice the money and half the times." Book twice the time and bring half the electronics. Enjoy the real farm life. Oh yes - unfortunately there is cell phone reception on the farm. Turn off the noise and enjoy the silence...
Exactly what we wanted, peace and quiet.
Tranquil, quiet and rustic accommodation.
Thank you for the relaxing time we were able to spent at your stunning place and area. The freshly baked bread and farm eggs were a welcoming treat. It was the ideal place to start our holiday at.
We had a wonderful stay. Friendly owners, clean and tidy house, and a wonderful farm experience for the children.
The house itself is a history lesson. Home-baked bread, jam and butter. Home-baked rusks and cookies that you can buy. Too delicious. Then the exceptional hospitality of Joan and Xavier is the icing on the cake. Thank you very much. Everything was perfect!
No TV, no other unnecessary distraction. Close enough to Caledon but far enough from noise.
The farmhouse is very nice and comfortable with everything you need. Thank you for the delicious home-baked bread! The perfect place to get away from the city to explore the countryside. Very close to beautiful towns like Greyton and also the Hemel-en-Arde valley.
Neat, clean and hospitable accommodation full of history. Pure farm during the day and no noise at night.
We enjoyed it so much, my friend left her hat there because she felt it went with the decor :-) We will definitely return sometime in the future. It would be great to mention that you provide some cereal and some condiments / let people know whether the fireplace is in working order and if the braai wood is usable. There were also some cookies there that we were not sure how to pay for. Overall it was a great stay. Highly recommended for people who want to feel relaxed and rejuvenated by nature.
Special experience, private and rich in history!
Really enjoyed it, it's just a shame I couldn't stay longer!
A quiet, lovely place. We really enjoyed our stay, especially the nice cozy fireplace in the kitchen! A highlight was also when Xavier took us to feed the sheep and lambs. One night was unfortunately just too short and we would love to go back to stay a little longer. Joelene & Jose de Barros Melkbosstrand
The Koringhuis is in a beautiful setting - especially in the summer. Quiet and very beautiful. The house itself is a perfect combination of old-fashioned charm and modern fittings. I was especially impressed by the 'extras': salt, pepper, oil and home-baked bread. It's the ideal getaway for city dwellers.
