My son and I had a wonderful stay there, it was so quiet and peaceful on the farm.
Quiet and peaceful with all the necessary amenities. However, the security light that shines sharply through the glass tiles in the bedroom makes for interrupted sleep. Ask for a room away from the light if you prefer a dark environment.

Our stay at Die Opstal was disappointing to us. We never met the host. The communication we had with him after our departure was very annoying. Reception was by someone who does the maintenance there and hardly speaks English or Afrikaans. The house is spacious, with a large garden, and the location has a really beautiful view. The kitchen is fully equipped. There were towels, shampoo, etc. ready, and at first glance, it looked cozy. Unfortunately, it turned out that there was considerable overdue maintenance. Upon entering, you could smell the mould. The walls and ceiling were full of damp spots. The downstairs bedroom was not suitable to stay in. Little maintenance has been done for some time. The very old air conditioning unit didn't work, and the swimming pool was dirty. With 35 degrees, it would have been nice to cool down. In the garden, there is an almost dilapidated playground, and the lawn was full of dog poop, which at one point we started scooping away ourselves because we had guests. We stayed elsewhere for a few days and were forced to leave earlier. The beautiful pictures on the website are misleading with the faded glory in reality.
Really nice stay at Die Opstal - was my second time there and will go back to spend the night there again. The perfect place! Really recommend the place to anyone.

Very quiet and nice atmosphere.
Neat place, but needs attention. Wall in bathroom shell off, creates poor image. Window in room leaked a lot with the rain. The corrugated iron headboard by the bed in the room gives off a lot of cold on your head.
I definitely recommend it, if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Will definitely come again, friendly staff and management. Wood is provided every day. Thank you very much again.

Farmyard accommodation. OK as a one-night sleep-over but definitely not a holiday destination. No character, no view.
The accommodation is very price competitive and in a good location, but lacking in cleanliness and overall maintenance. The pool is not in working order and hasn't been for a long time. There is firewood advertised, but we had to ask for it as nothing was available. The towels were dirty, one was clearly used and smelled! There were spider webs and dust everywhere. The cutlery and plates were greasy; we had to wash them before use. I would recommend the Riversdale area, but not Die Opstal.

Very specious and good place for entertaining your visitors, because we had visitors and had a braai everything was available woods, utensils, dishes, etc. Really it was value for money. I made my reservation just a few hours before I arrived. Everything was fine and was received hospitably. I felt at home. Urgently had to find a place to spend the night on a Sunday evening and Die Opstal welcomed me with open arms. There was everything a person would need for a night's stay. Very nice stay.
We had a wonderful stay at Die Opstal. Everything was clean and tidy. It is just a stone's throw outside the town and one experiences the silence at night as well as the tranquility of the surroundings.
The apartment is spacious and has all the equipment needed for self-catering accommodation. The bed is very comfortable and the braai place on the stoep is a winner.

We are not animal lovers, therefore the presence of the dogs and cat in the residence and in our car, if doors were open, was not a pleasant experience. The little dog that climbed onto the bed quite comfortably was one too many for me. A no-no. The musty smell that was in residence was disturbing. The carpets must be cleaned thoroughly. Upon opening the door to the unused pantry, we were surprised to find it dirty (no effort had been made to clean it), which made us quite uncomfortable. The switch to the porch light by braai place could not be found anywhere. When my husband looked for owner to solve the problem, he was not reachable.
Eienaar was baie vriendelik. Sal beslis weer daantoe gaan.
I will recommend Die Opstal to any person needing a chance to rest or anyone that just wants to escape the daily grind.
Was there for my son's Father and Son Grade 12 function at Oakdale. We enjoyed the stay very much.
Love the rusticness of a working farm/agricultural holding's atmosphere. Tranquillity of sheep grazing with lambs against green grass is gorgeous. The bedding was perfect, neat and the amenities sufficient.
Roofs of 2 of the bedrooms leaked when it started to rain.

The location and surroundings perfect. All criticism I can give is the fact that I was traveling for business and could not stay longer. Once you're there, you don't want to leave. The owners are very friendly and you immediately felt at home. The Homestead is definitely on my stay agenda in the future and then I want to stay there longer. The Homestead is very safe.

We used two units this weekend. The sliding doors and Trellidors are difficult to open and close. The one unit's sliding door and Trellidoor could not close. Access to the unit will be a problem if the unit next door is not also booked. Both the upper unit's outside chairs and lower garden chairs were full of cobwebs. We cleaned it ourselves. No one ever came to check if everything was okay.
Beautiful, peaceful farm atmosphere. Hospitable.
No one was aware of our arrival. We never met the hostess. The cottage was covered with cobwebs and dead flies and bugs in the windowsills. The outside area was not cleaned at all - you had to duck for all the cobwebs! I called the owner who then arrived there after a while. His excuse was that the house had not been used for a long time. He immediately said he would refund our money for us! Now where did we have to go on such a short notice? One of the farm workers was then asked to get rid of most cobwebs. It was also the last time we saw the host or hostess. It can be a wonderful place to stay if there is just more involvement from the owners.
We had to find a place with short notice and Die Opstal looked good but really exceeded our expectations! The place is well-equipped and beautiful and interesting decor completes it. It is clean, neat, nice bed and good linen. We want to congratulate them with what they accomplished here.
Our hosts were awesome. Waking up to the sounds of the farm animals was so great! We will never stay anywhere else when visiting Riversdal.

Very friendly and helpful owners. There was enough wood for a barbecue, comfortable and all the necessary kitchen equipment; plenty of towels and enough candles to enjoy our getaway romance of the weekend.
Escape city's 'rat race'.
We had a great time in the spacious and well-equipped accommodation. It's beautifully decorated. The only issue was that we were put in the wrong (much smaller) unit upon arrival. After the confusion was resolved we had a wonderful stay!

Homestead is a very peaceful place. The farm atmosphere is very pleasant, especially for city children. If you get up the sheep say tomorrow. The play areas for children are very safe and our parents don't have to play babysitter all day. The owners are real people. If you haven't been here yet, make an appointment. Will definitely come again after my third visit to Die Opstal to seek rest and peace.
The view is beautiful: open fields and majestic mountains. We’ve 3 points of criticism. 1) No hospitality. The host didn’t appear on the day of arrival and had to be summoned up the second day. At the day of departure we didn’t see the host as well. 2) Dirty. The guesthouse wasn’t cleaned for a long time, with stuck smear and cobwebs all over. 3) Service. One had to ask for everything: cleaning, fresh linen and towels, kitchen utensils, and so on. When confronted with our criticism, the host told us he and his wife were unfortunately very busy. But apparently it was a wake-up call because when guests from the other guesthouse left, their guesthouse was cleaned up thoroughly during a whole day.
Hosts were friendly and helpful. Very peaceful surroundings.

Pros: - Spacious! - Water saving shower heads (even if the bit old). - Nice bedding. - Farm animals are always winners with children. - Slightly out of town, so it feels like a farm. - Beautiful environment. - Owners are very friendly and super hospitable! Cons: - Parking doesn't feel very well planned. - Cigarette butts in the toilet. - Bathroom bin full of rubbish. - Bedside lamps are plugged out. There aren't any power points nearby to plug them in either. Aimless. - Fire hazard. There is a painting resting on top of a wall light. The painting hangs right above "bunk beds". The painting already has burn marks due to heat from the wall light. It is a ticking time bomb. - Security gates are not "slam lock", and we did not have keys for them. Aimless. - Door handles and sliding doors' screws are loose. It must be replaced. - Shower taps and shower head are old and look worn. Shower needs revamp in general. This may seem like a lot of cons, but it needs to be mentioned. It's a fantastic place that just needs some attention. For the money we had a very nice stay and would still recommend it to other people.

The Geldenhuys family were exceptional in making sure that our team of workers were comfortable and did not lack anything. It's always risky when I book online for a business trip, always wondering what type of feedback I'll get as to the bookings I make. I was sooo relieved when the Managing Director informed me that I could not have chosen a better place for them to stay. Thank you, thank you for great accommodation, stunning decor, breathtaking views and farm life experiences.
Everything was just perfect, there are so many interesting things. The horses were entertainment in their own right. Thank you very much for a special weekend away from the hustle and bustle. Will definitely stay there again when we are in Riversdal.
We really enjoyed our stay, so much so that we stayed an extra night. The son of the owners with his "jag stoene" (shoes) was the highlight.
