We loved our stay in this magical piece of heaven.
The lodge cabin is well equipped for a comfortable self-catering stay in the bush area. The game selection was a plus. We had a restful stay and the host was amazing.
The stay was excellent. One of my better choices to date. Both cabin and cottage were comfortable and well equipped with beautiful forest scenery. The lodge has its own beautiful hiking trail and the hosts were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return again and again!

It was magical, much needed. I loved the hike. It was raining, which made it look like a scene from a movie. The host received us, and he was helpful.
You can sit quietly on the porch with a book or board game and watch nature or venture to one of the hiking trails to the waterfalls in the gorge.

If you want peace and quiet but still have access to Wi-Fi this is the place to go. Beautiful crystal clear rivers and waterfalls within a 1km walk from the lodge in the lushest, green foresty area. Great accommodation, and wonderful hosts. Food for the soul. Will definitely return.

We stayed at the Log Cabin on our honeymoon, what a great and green place. In the morning we saw and heard monkeys very nice, there were nice short walking trails that start at the Cabin. You really feel like you are in the rainforest! The Kitchen is well equipped and is has a nice fireplace, there are also a few boardgames, really a great place. We recommend it!

As we are nature lovers, the surroundings with its lovely views, walking paths with babbling streams and waterfalls everywhere, was an unbeatable discovery. In addition, the cottage we stayed in was well equipped with everything one needs to have a comfortable visit and was sparkling clean and tidy. A bonus was the porch and outdoor shower. We are planning to go home there for a weekend with a larger group of people soon.
What a great and green place. In the morning we were awoken by monkeys and birds singing. Stream sound next to our bedroom. Nice walking trails that start at the Cabin. You really feel like you are in the rainforest! The kitchen is well equipped and it has a nice fireplace, there are also a few board games, really a great place. We recommend it!

We stayed in the Log Cabin for 2 nights and really enjoyed our time there. The place's location in the middle of the forest is perfect and we enjoyed exploring the area using the marked walking trails. It started to rain non-stop on the 2nd morning but this also added to a real tropical rainforest feel. The cabin itself was very neat and comfortable with everything you might need.
Despite the rain we were warm and comfortable.
Hiking trail map is somewhat confusing, especially since one is in the bush. Looking down the valley towards Tzaneen is north, but translating that to the map was difficult. Maybe the use of colours in combo with line types [- - - and -. - . and - - . - - etc] will help. We found a waterfall, but not certain if it was Mark's or the other one.

Forest Bird Lodge is located in the most beautiful natural forest with many streams and waterfalls, away from busy roads and the noise of the city. The accommodation is well equipped and stylish with everything you need. Very nice hiking trails and of course the Samango monkey visits are special.

The location is beautiful and peaceful. Anne and Rob were wonderful and very friendly. We also enjoyed Marla, the dog. She made the walks through the kloof a lot of fun. We will definitely return to relax and escape from the city noise.

The lodge was very comfortably equipped. We didn't find anything we needed. The owners go to great lengths to keep the road and lodge in good condition. Even with load shedding we were always able to turn on lights due to battery power. We had a great time relaxing on the lovely, large porch and just listening to the birds and the lapping of the water stream. It's really lovely in the woods. The owners' dog came for a visit and started the walk together. I highly recommend Forest Bird Lodge. We will definitely visit again to recharge our batteries.
It was amazing, with beautiful places in the mountains to walk to and lookouts. The experience was great as was the customer service. The perfect place to get to know your spouse and would also be a great place to go out with the family.
Hiking trails right on your doorstep. Cabins need some TLC. Long drive in, better if you have a van or 4x4 especially if it has been raining.

Nature is breathtaking.
A wonderful experience in the forests. The accommodation is peaceful and quiet and simple and the kitchen has everything you would need. The gas stove and gas cabinet are good alternatives for when the power is out. There is an awful lot of information available for bird watchers and there is plenty to do in the area. Anne they are always at hand with advice and information which is very reassuring. The roads are good and we found the place even in the dark with very little effort. I look forward to many more visits to Forest Bird Lodge.

Will definitely recommend anyone to go here, it's a nice place to just rest. The cottage is very well equipped with all the necessities and they are also well equipped for power outages. We enjoyed the place and the hiking trails very much.

Very idyllic place in the mountains. Good facilities and fully equipped. The road is not suitable for low-profile vehicles. Our visit was in June and the fireplace and electric blanket prevented us from getting cold.
Stay was very nice. Nature is beautiful. Would not recommend for older people who struggle to climb stairs as you have to carry all your luggage and coolers up the stairs yourself. We recommend that the owner pay some attention to maintenance, the bathroom faucet leaks terribly. The kitchen cloth and utensils not clean enough, therefore not up to standard.

I can highly recommend the place. It is important to know what type of getaway you are looking for. There is no TV or WiFi. This is a place in the wonder of nature. Very nice hiking trails. It's a lovely venue in a beautiful, tranquil destination. The bird life was lovely and the sounds of running water refreshing to the soul. The walks on the property are lovely but don't correspond to the given map. I highly recommend it and wish we could have stayed longer.

Dogs, especially Shadow, the large ridgeback, accompany and watch over you during all your walks in the area. Can recommend the place.

Forest Bird Lodge is hidden deep in the gorge and you can easily get lost if you don't have and follow the directions to get there. We only stayed one night to see the Cape Parrots. Anne's directions to the forest were 100% accurate and took us directly to the spot to see them.
A great place to visit with beautiful scenery, rare bird species and helpful owners (Anne) that ensured that our stay was care-free. It felt like we entered a fantasy world when hiking on the trails on the premises.
We were in the area for my daughter's wedding at Minas. The stay at Forest Bird Lodge was delightful and relaxing - the babbling of the water stream and the natural vegetation nearby contribute to this. We did go for a walk to the nearby waterfalls with the resident dogs as tour guides - fun! Wish we had more time to explore. They may just have to mention that the donkey (hot water) is indeed scalded twice a day. And certain pots in the kitchen don't have lids. Nevertheless, the stay was wonderful, thank you.
An unbelievable destination and I can definitely recommend it to families, couples, and friends who need some nature time away from modern life and electronics. Some great R&R, makes you feel like a new person. We will definitely be back oneday.
Although the gravel road tot he lodge isn't the best, we were more than pleasantly surprised with the place. Everything was sparkling clean and everything works. The outside shower is great and the absence of a TV definitely a bonus. I would have liked to pack the donkey for hot water myself, but that is more of a personal preference than critique. Fridge, gas stove, microwave and Weber on the porch and an outside braai gives you a lot of cooking options. Beautiful, well kept walking trails, wonderful bird life and the tranquillity that only Magoebaskloof can offer, makes this a must-see for anyone who loves nature in all its aspects.

The comfortable accommodation, silence and forest atmosphere allow your life batteries to be charged. The walking company of Shadow, the resident dog, made the walk on the well-marked forest paths a delight. Looking forward to being able to rest there again.
The hiking trails on the premises to the waterfalls is an absolute must. Comfortable walk through the bush and over and across the clear water of the stream. The nature is absolutely incredible. The fireplace keeps the place nice and warm during the cold nights.

We enjoyed our stay at Forest Bird Lodge so much! The quiet and tranquility was almost overwhelming. Apart from the wind in the trees and the sound of the stream nearby, there was no noise. It was just what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Log Cabin we stayed in was equipped with everything we needed and it was very neat! There is a nice fireplace available. We had trouble getting in and out with our vehicle where the road was a bit uneven, but it was definitely worth it and so beautiful! You are surrounded by indigenous plants and birds that "hide" in the bush! We will definitely visit Forest Bird Lodge again when we are in the area.

Forest Bird Lodge is lovely overnight accommodation for nature lovers. The gorge is very beautiful and the hiking trail to the waterfall is a must. The outdoor shower is lovely when it's hot! We only had problems with hot water when we wanted to bathe/shower - the geyser didn't work well. The cleanliness of the cottage can be upgraded.

I would heartily recommend Forest Bird Lodge, especially of your intention is to take it easy for a few days. It is a very quiet get-away with absolutely breath-taking views, and the magnificence of nature. The service was excellent and our hosts very friendly and helpful. Can't complain about a thing. (PS. The outside showers are the trump card!!!)
Have a great time! The house is well equipped, and the equipment is all in excellent condition. We can really recommend it! One tip: Take firewood or coals with you. The forest wood is a great frustration if you want to throw a little meat on the coals!
There was a miscommunication with the chalet designation originally assigned to us, but we spend the second night in the correct chalet.
Forest Bird lodge is a hidden piece of heaven for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I would recommend it to any family or couple who want to spend quality time with each other, away from the distraction of technology and too many things to do. The walk to the river is a must, but pack a water bottle with you. The last bit of driving to the accommodation is not suitable for cars with a low profile or low power.
