We had a great stay and the host was very friendly and helpful. The house was not 100% clean, but still livable and nice. The shower dripped continuously, which was slightly disturbing in the evening (perhaps only because we had to get up at 02:00 the next morning to continue driving). Despite that, it was still delicious there.

We ended up being involved in a multi-car accident 3km from Trompsburg. The host went above and beyond to help us get our goods out of the wreckage and made multiple trips to take it back to the guest house. He gave my husband coffee in their lounge. It is an ideal spot for overnight stays on a trip. Very well equipped and clean.

The kindness and care we received from the owners is exceptional! We arrived late afternoon on a Sunday and found that there were no open restaurants where we could eat. We had a great time staying here! Roland was very kind and made sure the warm blankets were turned on on all the beds and that there was a heater in the unit as it was bitterly cold. There was also yogurt, juice, muffins and biscuits prepared for us for the next morning — something we didn't expect at all and appreciated so much! The unit is very neat and spacious and we stayed very comfortably with our 3 children. We would definitely recommend Fox Den!
Fox Den is tidy with the necessary for a good overnight stay. They also provide milk, breakfast porridge and biscuits which went down well with my children.

Fox Den is a great stop en route to JHB from CPT. Roland was a great host - he made contact with us a few days before our trip and was really available to assist us along the way with lovely recommendations for where to have dinner. The accommodation had everything we needed, was sparkling clean and we loved the electric blankets! Our vehicle was safe behind locked gates and Fox Den was very easy to find. The cereal, yogurt, muffins and juice breakfast was great. We will definitely stay again on a future trip and we recommend this lovely establishment.
Pleasant shower, comfy beds with an electric blanket which we appreciated because it was really cold at night. They have left some supplies in the kitchen like teas, cereals, milk, and muffins. which we didn’t expect but was very convenient. We recommend this place.

The accommodation is really value for money. Everything is clean and tidy. There is sleeping space for 5, which is recommended for families with 3 children. There were even extras like breakfast cereal, milk and yogurt, which we didn't expect.

Very disappointed in the response when I phoned the next day to say I'd left my expensive moisturiser cream behind in the room. I feel more should have been done to recover it (or more concern shown, anyway) I know it was my own fault, but still. Customer service?
There is no reason not to see Fox Den as an overnight stop. Everything is in place.
Friendly reception. Can only inform guests about parking and how to get out early in the morning. We had to struggle for half an hour to get someone to open the gate when we wanted to drive early in the morning. No remote was given with keys.
Only one electric blanket. Made me furious - especially after hostess proudly announced all beds had electric blankets. It was freezing. Shower was a disaster: shower head squirted water up. Shower leaked onto floor. No ice in the freezer.

We spent the night from Gqberha to Gauteng. It is basically half way and the guest house has a good location. Safe place to sleep with secure parking. Friendly staff. Will definitely use again.

Everything was fine, but unfortunately they don't make any provision for loadshedding. If we hadn't had our own lamps with us, we would have sat in the dark all night.
Fox Den is neat, clean and cheap accommodation. The accommodation itself for a family of 4 was ok (3 stars). However, one small bathroom accessed through the master bedroom is a bit of a challenge and we were glad we only stayed the night. The TV is also a very old cheap TV, so even if it stands there it means nothing. Fox Den is for cheap sleep and then ride, nothing more than that.

Trompsburg is almost exactly halfway between Pretoria and Port Elizabeth (the route we traveled) so for us the location was ideal. Didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised with the unit where we spent the night. It is well appointed and clean with a nice shower and hot water. The breakfast treat in the fridge was also an extra plus. Will visit them again.
The garden is well looked after but the unit needs a lot of attention in terms of cleanliness, unfortunately pictures don't show it to you! Will not stay there again. It's not for us.

Trompsburg has a tranquility found in most Karoo villages - and we certainly found it at Fox Den. The rooms are spacious and tidy. We were two big people, with two children and two dogs. There was enough spacious lawn for our dogs to stretch their legs, as well as a playground where our children could stretch their legs too! The room had one double bed with two single beds in one large room - which also included a kitchen. The bathroom was separate with a shower - which thankfully had a strong hot water flow. The site was quiet during the night - which is a plus if you don't want to stay too far from the N1. Mari was very helpful in pointing out places to eat where we could order takeaway dinners - we couldn't really go out because of the dogs with us. Affi Plaas has a delicious menu with large portions of meals! We had their spare ribs and chicken salad - delicious. If I really had to point out a few things in our room: Our double bed was very 'soft' or old and made a tremendous noise when you turn over on the bed - maybe time for a new mattress. The bathroom also just needs an extra little table to put your bathroom bag on, four people with a bathroom bag each want a place. Other than that I think Fox Den was really worth it - good value for money.
The hostess makes an effort to make the unit feel homely and there is everything you need for a stopover - even with small children. Clean and tidy.

The gravel pebbles in the parking lot are just very uncomfortable for motorcycle parking. We had to park the motorcycle directly across the room on cement. Where other guests also have to walk.

The good: Mari is very friendly and gave me a contact number of Marlene who vouches for them. Marlene was very friendly and accommodating, she also waited for us even though we were a little late. There was yogurt, juices, muffins and milk in the fridge, as well as 4 different options of breakfast cereals. The bad: Our place was dirty. There were dirty footprints on the floor, the mirror in the bathroom had not been wiped for a long time, and the room with the 2 single beds' linen was dirty. The double bed is so hard, the floor might have been more comfortable; and the noise the bed makes every time you turn over is even worse!
Our departure from home was delayed and it poured with rain as we travelled through the Free State. We only arrived at Fox Den close to midnight. Marie maintained telephonic contact with us, gave us directions and was waiting for us with a big smile when we arrived. The location is excellent and secure and the rooms were clean and well equipped. Oor only criticism is concerning the quality of the coffee provided. Is there any chance of something better than Ricoffy?

After a long journey, the guesthouse exceeded all expectations! I will definitely stay here again and recommend it. Rooms are large, kitchen well equipped and plenty of hot water! My car had undercover parking on site where I could keep an eye on it from my room.
The beds slept well and there was no need to use the electric blanket. With all the equipment on the table, cooking space will be limited for a family. A few hooks for kitchen cloths will help a lot. Sorry about the curtain that I just completely pulled open from its rail.

We had a great time, we just had a problem with the water pump that made a noise all night and the taps in the unit at the sink in the bathroom in unit 11 which was completely detached which was difficult to open and close . We will visit Fox Den again, the area is peaceful and friendly.
Fox Den is an ideal place to stay in the Southern Free State. Neat! Excellent hostess. I realise this will be an expensive exercise, but air conditioning will be great in the heat we have experienced. The roof fan above the bed was a bit of a life saver. We will definitely make use of Fox Den - maybe just in a cooler time of the year.

We booked 2 units in December. It is clear that thought has been given to every need that a traveler booking self-catering might need. extras in the fridge, menus, treats and more were just the icing on the cake. A good bed ensures a good night's rest. At a glance - good service, with very good organization made for a lovely stay.
Ontbyt van jogurt, muffins, ontbyt pap, melk en sap was voorsien, asook beskuit saam met oggend koffie. Ons het onvoorsiene motor probleme gehad en hulle was die heel middag in kontak met ons. Skoonmoeder het oornag siek geword en hulle het uit hulle pad gegaan om ons uit te help.

I stayed here for one night on my way from Johannesburg to the Cape. The town itself is pretty ugly and there are very few eating options available so best to take some food with you. The accommodation was really god however. The room I was in can sleep up to 5 people, has a small kitchen with microwave, grill and oven, fridge/freezer, cutlery, cups and plates. The best thing was that the owner had put a small selection of breakfast cereals, some milk, fruit juice, butter, jam, muffins, tea and coffee in the room at no extra charge. The place is very quiet being at the edge of town next to the veld and I had a good, untroubled sleep there. Would definitely stay here again.

Severe power problems and it wasn't load shedding's fault. The management didn't even come to offer boiling water in the morning, so at least I could drink coffee before I left. They shone in their absence. There away without wet or dry on my lips! Absolutely unacceptable. Shame! I'm not going to break down further about the condition of the bathroom, etc. no, because I will never sleep there again.
Mari and her family went out of their way to help all the overnight travelers while the power was blown out by the weather. Hot water is supplied in hot bottles for a cup of hot tea and lamps and gas plates are provided. Mobile phone chargers that we forgot were sent by Mari by courier. We will definitely stay here again.

We were kindly received and quickly and effectively referred to our unit. Not only is provision made for breakfast with biscuits, breakfast cereal and yoghurt, but also a chocolate muffin and a delicious pack of mixed cookies with Christmas greetings on them. The unit was comfortably furnished and the bed lovely to sleep on. The shampoo, body wash soap and hand soap made us feel completely pampered in the delicious grapefruit citrus scent! We will definitely stay here again!

Can definitely recommend Foxden to anyone looking for a place to stay on the long road between the Cape or PE and Johannesburg. The units are neat and clean with everything you need for an overnight stop. There is enough space and play area outside for small children and even facilities for barbecuing. It's less than 2 km from the highway and very easy to get back on the road early in the day. We will definitely be staying at Foxden again in the future.

Did not feel safe to sit outside in the garden in the evening. I live in the city and sitting outside when I go to the countryside is wonderful for me. The fences are a bit low and the locks on the gates are not very strong.

I would recommend the Fox Den when staying in Trompsburg. We have stayed there before. The owner was very obliging to change our booking to a day later. The silence was an experience! All that bothered me was that the beds were a bit hard and the water pressure in the shower low, but I would still recommend it.
The shower does not have a soap dish or rack.
The place needs someone to look at a few things with a critical eye. Shower is not clean. Shower head tackled with lime. Both the soap bottle and cream's container stoppers broken. Trash can had no lid. TV is poor quality and was not tuned properly.
Establishment advertises that breakfast (not described) is included in rate. What was actually provided was indeed substandard.
While the owners have gone out of their way to make this as comfortable as possible, I can't see us stopping at Trompsburg again. The Town is extremely run down.

Mari is warm and welcoming and the little extras like a Christmas gift of biscuits, cereal and rusks with the coffee and tea make this feel like a real "home away from home". Neat, spacious and safe unit with everything you need for an overnight stay, a week or month. Our friendly and helpful hostess left us some cool drinks, yogurt, tea and milk for breakfast and also arranged a lamb pack to braai. Lovely night's rest and we were ready again for the rest of our journey the following day.

Trompsburg is an interesting town. Will plan to enjoy a Karoo night next time with a braai for dinner at the self-catering unit.
Nicely positioned on the journey from Southern Cape to Johannesburg. Good, clean accommodation with some extra touches like breakfast and full DStv.
It was an ideal stop on the way on holiday. Unit neat and clean, all that was needed.
A warm breakfast would have been nice. A heater in the in the bedroom would have made the uncomfortable bed more bearable, but the location was very convenient and the prices were reasonable.
There was no fault with our room, suitably furnished for one night's accommodation. Breakfast preview was up to standard. Slept well. Reception and owners very warm and friendly.

It was excellent to spend the night here specifically. Just perfect to break the long journey to Jeffreys Bay. Early in the morning you wake up to the sounds of cattle, sheep and chickens from the neighboring farm. Wonderful to wake up like this. After a restful night we hit the road early to be in Jeffreys Bay just after lunch.
The unit was very neat and clean, but the facilities and supplies was insufficient. We had to call for soap to shower. The TV remote doesn't work. No coffee or tea. Freezer section of fridse is very small and there were no ice. (We had to buy some at the BP garage.)

I let the owner/managers know in advance what time my son and I would arrive and ordered barbecue suits. When we arrived at 19:00, our braai packs were frozen rock hard and no coal or wood to buy. We had to turn back to "town", but all the shops were already closed. Luckily managed at the garage. The guesthouse's dogs made themselves at home in our unit and even slept on our couch. On LekkeSlaap's website you mention "complimentary sherry". There wasn't even a bowl of ice in the fridge and definitely no sherry! Outside, Fox Den is very dimly lit. The beds and linen were of very good quality and we could also enjoy a nice hot shower. I warned that we had to leave at 05:00 in the morning and we were told that there was breakfast in the fridge that we could take with us. Yogurt (how do you eat it in the car without disposable plastic spoons?), muffins, butter and jam. We left it there. Value for money but customer service is lacking.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fox Den. The room is very neat, spacious and everything worked as it should. The service we received was very professional and friendly, we also ordered a braai pack, which is very good value for money. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and would definitely stay here again.

We gave Fox Den 5 stars because it really lacked nothing. It was bitterly cold, but with cozy bedding and electric blankets we were armed against the cold. Everything is very clean, tidy and efficient.

Nice place to stay on the long road between Pretoria and the Cape. The accommodation was of a very good standard and the guest house is very well run. The breakfast in the fridge was just enough for a hungry stomach that had to get up early to drive on.
Fox den Guest House is a good choice for an overnight stay on the way to the Cape or back to Limpopo. The units are clean and well maintained. It is safe and quiet no traffic disturbance. Value for your money.

If you feel like silence then you don't have to look any further! This place is perfect for an overnight stop. There is a pleasant bakery very close by where fresh bread, pies, fat cake, etc. can be bought. I would definitely stay here again.

Environment does not feel too safe, the rooms and furniture are full of cat hair. They can pay more attention to cleaning the units decently before new guests check in. The place has a lot of potential.

Unfortunately, during our stay there was a drummer in the neighborhood who started playing at 9.30pm and periodically disturbed the rest until about 4am the next morning.
Everything was fine! The dust in the kitchen just needs a decent scrubbing and good cleaning! I can't believe that people who spend the night there and cook themselves can mess up someone's stove like that!
All our needs were catered for: packs of meat for a quiet barbecue, and a good breakfast already ready, so that we could hit the road again early in the morning. Everything one needs.
A big bonus was the fridge with milk, coffee, tea and muffins, as well as yogurt and cereal for a quick breakfast. Thank you so much, Mari, for a lovely sleepover, it suited us so well. We would love to stay with you again.
Please provide extra blankets. The side lamp was not working.

We had a nice rest after a very long journey.
I would like to see them get DStv because it is quite a problem as there is nothing else to do. Other than that, everything is good for the price.
We only stayed overnight.
The DStv channels did not work, and the owner did not know how to fix it. The jam was sugary and stale. It made me wonder how old the cereal is, I didn't eat it. Slept well and felt very safe. Thank you for the hospitality. It was a perfect place to sleep over.
Under the beds it was terribly dirty. The coffee mugs have so many years of tacks on them - so close that I got jick and scratched them off. The goldilocks that were in the drying rack were still full of the leftovers from a pot (very creepy). The porridge containers, biscuit containers and salt jars have so many scratches that you can see they haven't been cleaned in a long time. It was just so creepy. The bedspreads are not washed, so you can see that they also have blood marks and dirt on them. Mattress cover was horribly wrinkled. We really enjoyed this stay. I can see the hostess made an effort, but I think she will have to check what is going on in her places after the "cleaners" have been there. They obviously don't do their jobs or aren't trained. I will DEFINITELY never sleep there again.

The Fox Den has 12 self-catering units that can comfortably accommodate 2 to 5 guests respectively per unit. The kitchens of the self-catering units are fully equipped. The units are equipped with a TV each with DStv with selected channels available.
The units are equipped with ceiling fans and electric blankets are supplied for the winter months. All linen and towels are supplied.
