Frost House is one of the earliest buildings in Clarens, dating back to around 1920. The house has been sensitively restored by its current owners. Frost House is situated on Church Street in the town of Clarens, just off the village square opposite the police station. The house is conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, bars, art galleries, and a grocery store.
The house comprises 2 bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet. Each room contains a queen-size bed with quality linen. The house also comprises an open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area, and is equipped with a wood-burning Godin stove which heats the whole house in winter. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, an electric oven, a microwave, a kettle and a toaster, and an under-the-counter bar fridge/freezer, as well as a dishwasher for guests convenience.
The house is equipped with full bouquet of DStv channels and built-in braai facilities with utensils, and features an entertainment patio with lovely views of the nearby mountains. Guests have access to a carport for a single car, and there is space in the driveway for an additional car to park on the property.
The house was originally built of cast sandstone aggregate for a modest owner. The restoration of Frost House was overseen by local architect Jaap Boonstra to make it more relevant for a modern, relaxed lifestyle, retaining most of the historical and original design features that give the house its charming characterful appearance. The front façade is as it would have looked almost 100 years ago, and the garden has been landscaped to attract wildlife and birds, using mostly indigenous plants and veld grasses that are typical of the Eastern Free State landscape.

The house itself has been beautifully restored but maintains the old world feel with modern amenities. Even though it is close to town, it is very peaceful. Great place to be.

We spent 3 nights at Frost House and loved the feel, style and luxury of the house. Everything was tasteful with an old world charm, yet was modern, new, stylish, functional and clean. What was also nice is that it is a 2 minute walk away from the square and restaurants. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need. I will never stay another night in Clarens again. Well done.

Although there is no WiFi and no wardrobes, all the other facilities such as the dishwasher make up for it. The garden is very well maintained and a treat for the eyes.

Frost Huis represents our stately past and promising future, it's the old with the modern perfectly combined to make young and old feel at home. The location in relation to access to all shops, places to eat is ideal, you don't have to get back into your vehicle before you are on your way back. The view from the veranda is breathtaking. A gem in the mountains!
What a pleasant surprise Frost House was. We've stayed in Clarens a lot, Frost House is without a doubt our favorite hideaway. Everything was 100%! A luxurious cottage with so much attention to decor and comfort. Definitely visit for longer next time.

We stayed at Frost House from the 10th to the 12th of December 2018. Frost House is well located and very well appointed. We enjoyed sitting on the stoep and braai and admiring the beautiful garden and view. The decor in Frost House is exceptional. It is a luxurious house and has everything one needs. Within walking distance of the town square. For sure one of our top 2 places to stay in Clarens.
I'll definitely recommend Frost House to anyone who's staying in Clarens for a weekend. It's very neat, stylish and comfortable, and the location ensures that you never have to look for parking.
