The Gamkaberg is an isolated mountain range in the Klein Karoo, lying between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains. The name Gamka is derived from the Hottentot word ‘gami’, meaning lion. The Gamkaberg Nature Reserve, which is 10,430-hectares, is located 33 km south-west of Oudtshoorn and 32 km south-east of Calitzdorp. It forms part of the 80,000-hectare Gamkaberg Conservation Area which is made up of various categories of protected areas, including privately owned stewardship nature reserves. In 2015 Gamkaberg Nature Reserve was included as one of the protected areas making up the Cape Floral Kingdom Protected Areas World Heritage Site, declared South Africa's 6th World Heritage Site in 2004. These areas are considered to be some of the most important and representative examples of the Cape Floral Region.
Tierkloof accommodates up to 8 guests in 4 safari-style tents pitched on decks. The first tent has a king-size bed, the second tent has a double bed, and the third and fourth tents have 2 single beds each. The bathroom contains flushing toilets and hot showers. Hot water is provided by solar power.
The main lapa area contains a covered kitchen, dining and living area built from thatch and reed. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge powered by solar, a 2-plate gas hob, and cutlery and crockery. The dining area contains a picnic table. The living area contains 2 sofas and a wood stove for those cold winter nights. The large lapa also contains camp chairs, picnic tables, hammocks and a braai area. A braai grid is provided. Tierkloof also offers an eco splash pool with a large shaded deck, the ideal place to relax and soak up the peace.

4 guests' feedbackVery nice stay. It is blissful and food for the soul.
Excellent, full marks to Cape Nature!
A hidden gem just outside Calitzdorp for those who enjoy nature. It was such a nice experience meeting Pedro (Cape Nature ranger) who is proud of his work and ensures the camps are spotless and the trails are maintained. He made checking in and out a breeze.
Very well equipped. Did not have to take any bedding or towels.
