81 guests' feedbackRoedolla and Johan were amazing hosts. Real farm hospitality and unique creativity, mixed with the splendour of rock formations and veld. Quite an experience. It would be useful to add to the description that, despite the fact that there is no electricity, USB charging points are available.
We were received very kindly and with difficulty helped to drive the right roads for flower viewing. The children really enjoyed the space and we were able to enjoy the silence and nature next to a fire. Thank you very much Hawerland.
Plant diversity compares well with Niewoudtville.
What a great place and even better hosts.
Roedolla and Johan make you feel at home from the day you arrive. Friendly and helpful with everything you need. We will definitely visit there again. Real 'people' people.
It was a bit further down the road than I expected. The road was more clearly marked, and I had no doubt that I was going to the right place. The amenities were more than I expected. I had a good time. Don't know if I will come again but would recommend to the right person.
Hawerland was our base, from which we explored the coastal areas: Vanrhynsdorp district, Biedouw Valley. The spring flowers were magnificent everywhere! Hawerland itself is a nature-lovers paradise. The birdlife is inspiring. Hawerland is off-grid, peaceful and relaxing. Visitors may walk anywhere on the farm. The prefab cottage can be cold, depending on weather and the season, so be prepared. The hostess provides very warm extra blankets.
Thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely visit often. Every child's dream is to be on a farm and here you can find your soul again without the hustle and bustle of life, TVs, mobile phones and internet. Keep it up!
We had a really nice stay. We were well received and the hostess and gentleman are true hostess and gentleman. It is very hot in December, but the outdoor shower and nice pools were a treat. The silence on the farm and the view from the wooden deck was wonderful.
Road from Graafwater is quite bad. The opening and closing of the gates made me long for my childhood, owners very friendly and helpful. The silence is exceptional and it invigorates one.
Hawerland brings you back to nature and away from the luxury of the City. Very good place if you want to disappear from the radar for a few days.
Linen is very clean, but the rest needs a good scrubbing, and I personally look for curtains in front of the window.
Nice quiet getaway. Perfect for a break from the city. The road there is just not really suitable for a sedan. Dirt road is bad and long. 15 km of dirt road that must be driven very slowly. Better for persons with a van or SUV.
Our hostess and host were the best. Very nice stay and everything was so comfortable and they looked after us so well. Was very nice and would definitely recommend it.
Value for money - well equipped with all basic necessities even though there is no electricity - gas and solar power sufficient. Nice walking areas. Friendly and helpful owners.
Accommodation was great, warm and cosy caravan and ablutions also great.
The venue was amazing, the hosts were fantastic and I wish we could've stayed longer! The only drawback was us getting lost by not seeing the sign to turn off the road to get there.
It's a beautiful setting and enjoyed it there.
Quiet on the farm, we could switch off.
My prefab self-catering chalet was private, placed in a beautiful setting under a rocky ridge and the deck provided epic views. A perfect place to unwind in solitude or with friends, and a good place to witness spring burst into its colourful song.
The farm road from the 10 km dirt road was somewhat too long for my 80 year old Dad, especially with our Toyota Etios sedan, but the nature and surroundings are incredibly beautiful. Ideal getaway especially birdie outdoor life. Be warned, it's incredibly hot in December with no cooling in the cottage and the sun is everywhere.
Hawerland was a peaceful getaway. We highly recommend it. Roedolla is a fantastic hostess.
The unit is self-catering with a nice deck and a beautiful view of the farm. It is against a pretty little hill. The host and hostess are very helpful and kind. A nice getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It was just damn cold but at least we had nice warm blankets.
Although it was cold, we really enjoyed it and the natural surroundings were refreshing. Thank you and we will definitely return.
Great area for walks, felt safe. House just a bit cold in the evening, but has enough warm blankets and took our hot water bags with us, seeing that August is still very much winter in the Cape. Will definitely go again.
I have to commend the hosts on an amazing place for us who want to have an off-grid experience. Johan and Roedolla are awesome hosts and we had a very special and beautiful togetherness. They made us feel at home and even spoiled us with home-baked bread. Their hospitality has been impeccable and I would recommend and promote their place to everyone who would like this kind of retreat. Thank you once again for opening your doors to us.
The owners received us like family. The house was nice and comfortable and the farm kitchen the place to hang out. We are already planning the next visit to Hawerland.
We had a wonderful overnight stay in the flower caravan. Was an experience on its own. Atlased pentad which had never been done before due to location and people not being able to get in there - so it was nice to record the birds that occur there.
As a farm stay Hawerland was a perfect choice, we loved the views and atmosphere. Accommodation quaint and totally adequate.
You can see all the stars and the silence is exactly what you need when you come from the city. The aunt and uncle were very friendly. Hope to see you again.
A must if you want to break away from the mad rush of city life. Unspoiled nature, quiet and definitely safe.
Dollar and her family are wonderful people and it was a great trip.
We enjoyed it very much. Everything calm and just what we wanted! Will definitely recommend to many. Will not regret choice of accommodation. We will definitely visit again!
Good rest stop, more directions would be appreciated.
I would recommend that there might be more activities for teenagers e.g. perhaps horse riding and also perhaps the availability of renting bicycles if guests are not able to bring bicycles themselves. More attention can also be paid to the maintenance of caravans.
We were looking forward to the tranquility on the farm. However, there were children who were constantly racing around our unit on motorbikes. We were two families with 5 children under the age of 7 years, there were guests making noise and music in the lounge area until after 02:00 on the Sunday morning.
Lovely remote area but cottages not clean.
We returned to Hawerland in flower season, because of excellent viewings there previously. The farm itself offers a staggering array of flowering plant species, all reached via short accessible walking routes from the cottages. These included two of my favourites, Ferrarias and sweetly scented Wurmbeas, as well as countless Moraeas, Babianas and Holothrix. Clanwilliam and Lamberts Bay are easy drives away if one wishes to go there. The cottages are basic, but provide all one needs, although a note to say the sheets are in the wooden chest would be useful! The addition, since our last visit, of a hot outdoor shower, was very welcome - and it is an excellent shower, where I had the company of a Cape Robin Chat singing in the bush nearby! Roedolla is a welcoming hostess, eager to share information and hear of our experiences on the farm. We will certainly return.
Although it rained terribly, we were welcomed with open arms and Roedolla and Oom Johan tried to make it as pleasant as possible for us. Hospitable, good laughs, cute farm full of character.
As always a beautiful farm and very kind people.
We returned to Hawerland to see how the wild flowers had changed since September. We were not disappointed, with many special plants found on our walks and drives on the farm. It is a very relaxing place to visit, with friendly hosts and basic, but comfortable accommodation. The swimming pool is great on the hot days and the outside showers are a great addition to the chalets. We will return!
At Hawerland you are welcomed with open arms by the loveliest people. It was really nice to stay in the "Hippie Camp". I will definitely visit again. It was a very pleasant getaway.
We spontaneously booked this trip on the fly on our way to surf islands. We arrived late to a warm welcome. And boy did we have fun. The location is breathtaking. The views on our way got us ready. We made it in 2 small cars, roads were not to bad. Even though we had low profile tyres. The pool and lapa was much needed in the heat of the Cederberg. We spent a lot of our time there. We were hosted to a great new years with snacks and drinks we did not expect. And this home made granadilla concoction got us on our way. The accommodation was neat and cosy. Perfect for couples or friends. And with so much to do with a 50 km radius. I would definitely stay there again.
The people, the atmosphere, the geyser that makes strange noises.... Everything was amazing!!!
Lovely, clean chalet, everything you need. Very friendly hosts.
Everything was great except the condition of the beds was very uncomfortable and should be equipped with new mattresses.
The tranquility and the remote location of the accommodation was great. Be careful, the horses do visit the car. The hot water was not available in our unit, but we were able to use the neighboring unit.
Just make sure there isn't a party going on over the weekend. The motorbikes are not fun if you want to experience the silence of nature.
Great value for money with friendly service.
The venue is remote, but the unit was spotlessly clean, very well equipped with all the basic utensils and amenities. The outside shower was a pleasant surprise and the sunset something to behold.
Experience was one of the best. Will use Hawerland again and again anytime. The farm silence is just what we needed. The fact that there is no electricity makes it even more special. I will definitely recommend this accommodation to friends and family. The best!
Bed slept well. Enjoyed the deck with good views. Enjoyed the fire pit area. Enjoyed the outdoor shower with hot water. Enjoyed the swimming pool on the hot days. Enjoyed the hiking route (Followed the 4x4 route to the far fence).
Roedolla was truly hospitable and very friendly. Will go back again anytime if the opportunity presents itself.
Very very peaceful atmosphere. The silence is incredible. Can recommend it to someone looking for some salve for the soul. Although not power, it is still very nice.
It was cold and rainy, but the reception and stay was so warm and pleasant. We could experience how the hostess brought herself into the place with paintings and other beautiful items that made it feel so homely. It was truly the icing on the cake to be able to take a nice hot bath and sleep in a warm soft bed after a long day's travel. We will definitely visit again and would highly recommend the place. The fact that there was no power to charge mobile phones didn't even bother us at all, because the well-equipped kitchen made it feel like triviality. Thank you Roedolla, we appreciate your hospitality. It's very rare and precious.
Value for money and friendly hostess.
Everything was perfect. Delicious barbecue under the stars. Feel free to take Hiker with you when you explore the farm. Lovely dog. Will go again and this time for longer.
Peaceful farm accommodation. Had a great stay. Host went through a lot of effort to make our stay pleasant. Will go there again.
The hostess Roedolla is very friendly. The houses are basic, but have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The swimming pool came in handy and the dogs are friendly!
House is definitely value for money. Was great to switch off after a busy week. We thought there was no power so the lights and fridge were a bonus. House very neat and clean. Will go again.
Couldn't charge cell phones, but owner went to charge at his house. Couldn't use hair dryer either. Larger solar panels are needed as lights start to flicker in the early evening. Other than that, everything perfect. Will go again.
I went to Hawerland specifically to take photos of the stars. In addition to some beautiful photos, I found peace and quiet, friendly hosts and some beautiful flowers to top it all off. I would recommend Hawerland for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
This destination is not meant for pleasure seekers. You come here to rest. Play games with your kids, take nature walks and swim when things get too hot. Build a cozy fire to cozy up to. Forget about your cell phone. You don't need it anyway.
Very peaceful environment, real farm feeling.
If your idea of heaven is to walk out the door of your cottage and up the hill behind, and spend the whole day looking for and enjoying a bounty of spring flowers, then this is the perfect spot for you. The cottages are well appointed, although you do need warm clothes and a hot water bottle for the winter nights and early mornings. Roedolla is a friendly and helpful host and her dogs make great companions on your walks. Elands Bay, Lamberts Bay and Clanwilliam are all nearby if you want to explore the area further.
Roedolla is a wonderful hostess.
Hawerland is on a beautiful farm and is a well thought-out pre-fab cottage, with all the amenities. However, the solar lighting is very poor, you cant even read by the power it gives. The lights are on a day / night system. They only came on at 6:30 pm when the cottage was already dark and were already off at 6 am when the cottage was still dark (end of August). We stayed on a bitterly cold night. There was insufficient blankets (3 blankets for 2 beds and a sheet), no gas heater - to the point where we had to sleep with vests, beanies, scarfs and jackets just to try and keep warm. There is also no lounge suite to sit on, only a dining room table. Having said this, in summer it would be a lovely cottage with a huge covered veranda and braai area, with beautiful views.
House 1's facilities were quite adequate for our family with 2 primary school children. We arrived at dusk and the fire was already packed and enough wood available. The lighting's battery did not last until bedtime, but Roedolla immediately brought additional paraffin lamps. There isn't really enough storage/hanging space for clothes and toiletries. The surroundings are very beautiful and the houses very neat.
Struggled a bit finding the place, but it was nice and quiet and good overnight accommodation. Nice outside area and deck.
Enjoyed, no complaints. The pool was a relief in the heat. Roedolla brought us wood. Everything necessary was there.
The hostess was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, but very hot. No aircon or fan available. Also no plugs to charge cell phone as it is solar-powered. Our stay was pleasant. No disturbances and all other needs were catered for.
It was just a pleasure to hang out there. The clean air and silence is what one misses from the fast city life. You get this in abundance on the farm and more. Tannie Roenolla is fantastic and really helpful, and very friendly. Thank you very much, we will definitely be back again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hawerland and would recommend it to anyone looking for peace and quiet. We stayed for 3 days and it was hot. Luckily there's a nice swimming pool to cool off in. It was so quiet, we also live on a farm but closer to the city, but this is a different quiet; the type that makes you think without any distractions. I loved sitting by the fire until 02:00 in the morning and it was still warm with no mozzies! There is cellphone signal, and 4G is available (if your cell allows it).
It was excellent, the owners are friendly and helpful and we could not have asked for a more peaceful time! We will definitely go again. Hawerland is ideally located between Clanwilliam and Lamberts Bay. If you are looking for peace and quiet, away from cell phones and noise then Hawerland is the place to be.
See rating.
Wonderful stay in nature. Very child friendly. Friendly hosts. Would advise that cleaning service is included in accommodation, it takes up one's entire last day.
We had such a good time among the fynbos and koppies! Everything you need is provided and you can just ask Roedolla (the owner) if you need anything. We will visit again soon!
There is only the basic necessities. Hot water is a problem.
