We went home from the Meiringspoort road race at the weekend. We were kindly received. The residential units are beautifully furnished and very tidy. Everything you need is available. I would recommend the place to everyone.

We stayed on the way back from a five day motorbike ride to Graaff-Reinet. Jan and Theresa welcomed us kindly and were very helpful in everything. Room is comfortably equipped with everything needed and room and bathroom impeccably clean. Ground coffee provided with a French press (plunger) was very welcome, as was the craft local sherry from Doornkraal. Nice porch outside the room where you can enjoy your coffee (and/or glass of sherry) while looking out over the beautiful garden. Secure parking. Easy walking distance to various eateries, general merchandise and liquor store. Proximity to high street may bother light sleepers.
We were contacted 48h before our reservation by the owner and offered dinner. We had a wonderful evening and the people were super friendly. Would highly recommend the place to travelers. The Venters made it very pleasant. Thank you, see you soon.

House Martin was once again a good experience. The owners are cut out for their profession - they even prepare their delicious dinners and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. The rooms are beautiful and very tidy. Their courtyard garden is a loop court, and the lounging area next to the pool is just a joy. The night traffic of single trucks is a reality, but not a serious complaint.

Housemartin Guest Lodge is located on the main road through De Rust but has a very tranquil atmosphere behind their garden wall. Supper and breakfast can be supplied on request and were of excellent quality. Our hosts, Theresa and Jan, were always helpful and knowledgeable on activities in the De Rust/Oudtshoorn area. No hesitation in recommending it for those requiring lodgings to be able to view the outstanding Meiringspoort Pass.

I would recommend House Martin to anybody. It sets standards that other establishments could only hope for. We had a wonderful, comfortable stay. Our hosts Theresa and Jan met our every need and more so. Just being able to sit in the tranquil garden after a long journey was a treat and the pool braai area was just what the doctor ordered. I am a biker and have stayed at many an establishment through the years and I found House Martin the best of the lot. We hadden de aangepaste kamer, ivm mijn rolstoel gebruik. De douche was prima en er was een zeer ruime aangepaste toilet. De kamer was zeer ruim. Alle kamers zijn zo ruim, dus niet alleen de aangepaste kamer. Het dorp zelf zijn we niet echt ingeweekt. Er zijn wat winkels en kunstzaken, maar de meeste zijn niet rolstoeltoegankelijk. Er was een heerlijke tuin om in te wandelen en te zitten. Maar het was ook heerlijk vertoeven op je eigen veranda. Theresa en Jan, de eigenaren, waren heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. In principe is er geen ontbijt, maar hier kan je wel voor kiezen als je daar bent. Theresa bakt heerlijke verse scones en croissants, dus zeker de moeite waard.

This little place is very neat and the people very friendly. Good communication with the relevant parties right from the start. The accommodation is situated in a quiet area and is therefore highly recommended to those looking for lodging in a relaxing, quiet area.

We had a very nice overnight stay at Housemartin. Room was very neat and clean. Hostess and her husband very friendly people who constantly made sure that we were comfortable and just had a nice chat as if we had known each other for a long time without being familiar. A big problem is that it is in the main road. The trucks' noise in the night bothered a lot. We had breakfast at the annex restaurant - good meal and good value for money. The room had a panel heater which was our saving grace - it needs a fireplace or something to make it more cosy.
The host and hostess really went out of their way to make us feel welcome and went out of their way to arrange a delicious barbecue for us with salads for dinner. The lodge and gardens are stunningly beautiful. All that bothered me was the traffic during the night, because some of the rooms' backs are very close to the main road through de Rust.
The perfect stop-over! I highly recommend the accommodation at House Martin! Very comfortable, clean rooms in tranquil setting. We were hoping to be able to get supper at their restaurant (see website) but were told that it is only open 'in season'. Unlike several other towns on (or close to) Route 62, De Rust seems not to have any places (or local restaurants) of particular interest to travelers.
No words can describe this gem (and its owners). Karen and Garth greeted us with open arms. Beautifully renovated and painted cottages await you at this perfect located lodge. Even before entering the cottage the veranda with table and chairs make you feel at home. Upon opening the genuine yellow wood door a queen size bed with pure white linen welcomes you. As De Rust can be chilly in the evening an electric blanket is available. The bathroom has underfloor heating and a piping hot shower. On the same premises there is a restaurant that serves excellent food. And to top it all there are tea and coffee facilities as well as two glasses and a flask filled with Muscadel. But as a visual presentation is far more descriptive than words I suggest you visit yourself - we will most definitely stay there shortly again.
