73 guests' feedbackWe had a very nice stay. Rooms are nice and big and spacious as well as bathrooms. The surrounding area is quiet and peaceful and no one to bother you. Will definitely stay there again.
Our stay was wonderful. Really good value for money.
Lovely farmhouse with large garden. Kids loved the experience — exploring and riding bicycles. Pets welcome. Went for lovely walks in the reserve. Town centre and beach approx. 5km from the house. Braais inside and outside. Only had to bring towels, wood and food. The rest are in place. Highly recommend.
We had the most relaxing and quality time together as a family. We will certainly go back for a longer stay!
The house is well furnished with plenty of space to relax and discover the part of the country. Very safe and convenient.
Was very pleasant and isolated, which was perfect.
It was a nice peaceful weekend in the perfect house.
You can walk on the reserve roads as they are quiet. The wash-hand basins were interesting but a bit uncomfortable when washing your face or teeth.
We had a great stay and the host was incredibly friendly and helpful. Will for sure if our family gets the opportunity to visit again on a weekend in the winter.
Gas geyser not quite stable.
Would have liked a bit more of a run-down on the ins and outs of the place as we were uncertain as to how some things work namely the off-the-grid items such as the geysers, electricity meter, lights. Other than that we really enjoyed the place and area. It's perfect for a weekend getaway to just enjoy good company. Would definitely recommend the place to others.
Close enough to Yzerfontein to enjoy the local spots, but detached enough for complete seclusion. Three-night stay, power kept up, and we bunkered down with indoor fire roaring, lots of food, drinks and games. Wonderfully accommodating for pets, with our group ranging from 12-80 in age all enjoying themselves. Must do: Wrights Gin Distillery, lunch at Beaches Restaurant!
I'm already booking my next visit. Very good value for money. Nothing fancy, but you feel very much at home from the first minute.
At first we were a little scared as women, but soon as we settled in, we couldn't find ourselves to leave, very quiet place. Thanks a lot.
Lovely, simple farmhouse with basic necessities in the house. Absolutely animal friendly and very safe for humans and animals. Will definitely return again in the future.
It's such a nice break from busy life and you feel isolated even if you're only a little way out of town.
The tranquility and the calm was great. Lots of things to do around and in Yzerfontein.
Very memorable. Kids could be as rowdy as they wanted to be.
Although the solar power did not last long, the advance warning ensured that we were prepared. The place was neat and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The indoor fire pit was a winner with the cold and rain we experienced.
Peaceful visit. Ian was very helpful. Just a pity that their battery system is not working 100%. At least had a generator to charge the battery with.
Unfortunately, they did not make sure that the house was clean. There were dirty ashtrays, a messy dining table with candlesticks with very old, burnt-out candles, clothespins and burnt-out matches, as well as many cobwebs in the cupboards. The blinds in one room could not be opened or closed. There was confusion about which gate to use and the solar batteries were at 0%. This meant that we had no hot water in the bathrooms for two of the rooms. A generator was brought, but the gasoline was not enough to charge the batteries. Maybe the owners can just visit again and replace the cloths over the sofas - it's quite weathered.
Quiet place, pet friendly with big yard for the dogs. Would like to be informed ahead of time that dogs cannot be left unattended. This limits one in terms of visiting restaurants in town.
Lovely location and very peaceful. House has everything one needs, but needs a serious spring clean!
Had a good time will do it again.
Wow we had a great time, the place had a lot of space, we were 9 guests and we really enjoyed it! Every night a big fire was made for heat and a nice roast! Hanging out without a TV and everything eclectic was fantastic, lovely hot bath every night and appreciating the beautiful scenery!
Absolute gem. Its important that our dogs are happy when we travel and this place exceeded our expectations.
We loved the spaciousness created by the vaulted ceiling, with the upper bedrooms joined by a 'aerial walkway' spanning the open plan lounge/kitchen/dining room. With four separate bedrooms it is perfect for a group of friends or family. The caretaker was just a call away & very helpful. 5kms from Yzerfontein & the beach, 15 km from Darling in it's own private nature reserve, what more could you want from a country retreat.
The children love it.
Jacobuskraal Farmhouse was the perfect central base to explore Darling and Yzerfontein. The house itself is massive with plenty accommodation options, bathroom options, seating options. it has the wow factor when you open the aptly named happy doors on the expansive stoep to step inside! The kitchen is packed with everything you will need and more for any meal type for any number of people. We did not miss having electricity at all - the lights work very well with the solar system. We had plenty of hot water from the gas hot water cylinders, the gas stove was tops, the gas fridge ice cold. We enjoyed our stoep meals, braai outside, star/shooting star/satellite gazing both nights. Slept like babies in slightly darker than normal surrounds. Did not want to leave after 2 nights/3 day long weekend! Ian is a wonderful contact and an asset to the Louw family for ensuring the house is immaculate inside out. We will be back!
Quiet environment in nature, away from all the hustle and bustle.
Peaceful getaway with the dog children. Phone off. Finished reading 2 books. Nicely rested. Thanks for a homey break.
The house is a real holiday home where you don't have to do anything and just rest. Centrally located to soak up the surroundings.
It was well appointed. Is very basic without luxuries. The house is value for money. The house is fenced and our dogs really enjoyed the garden.
We really had an amazing stay with 4 kids.
We all enjoyed our stay. We were only disappointed that electricity did not last. We were only there at night and had young adults with us and they were unable to use their laptops and cell phones. We now live in a world of digital technology and they should allow electricity for charging purposes.
Very nice stay. Everything you need is there. The place is big and spacious with nice indoor barbecue. Thank you very much. Will definitely come again.
Everything was well arranged - really enjoyed
The house is off the grid and with no TV or WiFi it is a good place to put the mobile phone and laptop aside and literally sit and watch the honey bees busy at the lavender bushes. Stunning time to get quiet at Jesus' feet.
Basic but just what we needed for a boys weekend away. No neighbours so no noise complaints, 2 large braai areas, cool inside bar area (can smoke inside). The gas showers were in working order and the generator was fine to have lights on the whole evening on both nights. Take power banks to charge appliances in case.
Jacobuskraal brings the sea and farm feeling to the holidaymaker in a modern way.
A door in front of the toilet or in the larger bedroom will give more privacy if there is more than 1 person sleeping.
The host is helpful and friendly. The house is neat and well equipped. All accessories work and effort has been made with extras such as braai trays, bottle openers and cooking utensils.
Perfect getaway if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, secluded but safe. Great atmosphere in the house, having a warm fire going at night when there are lights, absolute bliss. Our propose, all though with our office/company, was for team building and re-connecting with one another.
Thank you for the wonderful time we had at Jacobuskraal over the last few days. Our kids, fur and human, loved exploring the surroundings and mom and dad had a wonderful relaxing stay. A special thanks to the caretaker, Ian, as well for helping us find accommodation for Thursday night as we needed to extend our stay unexpectedly.
Very nice place where you can have your children and your dogs, I think my dogs enjoy it more than I did. This is definitely a place I will visit again in the future. Thank you very much for service and the quick feedback on the place. It will be a 10 out of 10. Until next time.
Lovely, peaceful, private stay. Near surrounding attractions. Like what you need and more!
Very nice stay. It was safe and the place was nicely decorated. The place has an indoor barbecue which was perfect when it started raining and we wanted to barbecue.
Location and amenities very suitable for a men's weekend away from the city's hustle and bustle. Rural atmosphere, easily accessible with Yzerfontein and other amenities within 5 km radius. Only solar power, but more than adequate for essential needs and relaxation.
Our gas was finished on the third day. The caretaker said he would provide a new bottle the next day, but never did. We used the stove's gas bottle for the fridge en the geyser for the last bit of out stay. The caretaker never got back to us. That was the only disappointment.
The place is so amazing. We will make a reservation again soon in the new year. Many thanks to Ian, the manager, who was very helpful. We were very surprised because all the necessities that were at our disposal and that we could bring our dogs with. We'll visit Jacobuskraal again in March 2019.
Fabulous stay. Peaceful, everything we needed. Perfect place to recharge or haev a family / friends gathering. We will definitely book again!
Our accommodation was absolutely nice and definitely child friendly. We enjoyed every moment, especially because there wasn't a TV, so we could spend some quality time together as a family. Thank you very much. We will definitely come again.
It is a large farmhouse that is very well equipped. The environment is so peaceful and safe. No worries about our dogs, who were there with us. We really enjoyed it, even though the weather was cool we used the indoor braai which worked great. Will definitely go there again.
We enjoyed our visit and will definitely consider staying there again. We were only 3 people so we had plenty of space. The description mentions that 12 people can stay there, but I will not recommend it. There is only one shower that works relatively well, so everyone will have to shower in the one bathroom. It was not a problem for us, but could be problematic for a large group. The caretaker was very helpful and made us feel welcome.
We were two families with dogs and everyone had a great time. Was there in winter, so the indoor braai was lovely to warm up the cottage.
We had a wonderful time at Jacobuskraal Yzerfontein Farmhouse, our four-legged child too! The whole yard is fenced and our dog could roam and play freely. She enjoyed the space so much. It is literally a dog heaven. The house itself is well equipped with all the essentials when you consider that it is basically "off the grid" - from barbecue grill, to a jaffle maker, extra cooler boxes to keep cold drinks cold. Even though it is a farmhouse, we felt that it was really nice and clean. We agree with previous comments that all the rooms and bathrooms should have curtains, for more privacy, and hope that management will apply them. There was also a new solar system installed according to Ian, and this caused headaches when the system's alarm went off at night and during the day, it's probably just a small adjustment that needs to be made. Along with the bliss and nice braai area, there is a lot to do in the area and no guest will get bored. We would love to return for another great getaway! We hope the solar system is sorted out by then.
We were 8 adults with three children (all under 4 years) and we had a great time. The fact that there was no TV meant that we, as a family, did a lot of different things than usual. The white beaches and shops of Yzerfontein are also close enough to go there quickly. Here and there there was something that bothered us, but overall we had a great time and we will definitely go again.
We had a lovely time, very peaceful and the house has a nice farm feel. Perhaps a microwave might come in handy. Other than that, everything was very nice.
House was tidy and facilities practical for large groups, we really liked the open plan kitchen/lounge/dining room with braai area and the isolation in nature.
Calm and quiet on the farm with only nature for company. Large fireplace with indoor braai area if the weather outside is not pleasant. Spacious bedrooms with amenities. Thank you very much Ian Gradwell for your kindness and help with everything we wanted to know about shops places and roads.
We were 3 families with children that stayed here for a weekend. More than enough space, fantastic braai en entertainment facilities, perfect location, away from any noise and other people. Thank you, will definitely return!
We will definitely come stay here again. MIght have preferred the gates around the yard to be more secure. Our one dog jumps over everything. You can't leave you dogs alone at home if you quickly want to go explore, so that makes it a bit difficult to explore Yzerfontein or to go on a restaurant tour if you're staying for longer than a weekend. But without dogs it would be the best getaway spot! Nice and spacious and a fantastic location!
Satisfied with the service and accommodation.
The place is far from Cape Town, 80 km away.
The gas shower and fridge didn't play together and the bed in the main bedroom is collapsing, not acceptable at all. Otherwise not sure not too unkind.
The short break was fantastic and Jacobuskraal was the perfect place to relax and rest. The facilities were excellent and the service top notch.
If you're looking for a weekend away close to the beach, but also in the bush, with family and friends, then this is the place for you. We really enjoyed the stay. Very close to the town Yzerfontein and bars and restaurants. You have complete privacy in your house. Will definitely come here again.
We had a wonderful stay. We would have like to see more window coverings, especially at night time because it feels a bit scary. Our pets enjoyed it tremendously and it can be recommended for any animal lover. It is nice and safe and has an enclosed yard. Maybe the owner could take some recent photos of the place because it looks better in real life than on the web.
Great for humans and canines! Lots of space. Though rustic, well equipped and very private.
Feel free to see the stars.
Please see the stars.
We were 10 ladies who visited Jacobuskraal Yzerfontein Farmhouse for a weekend and it was fantastic. Would do it again anytime and would recommend it to anyone who likes peace and quiet.
Pleasant stay and can switch off nicely. House is equipped with everything needed.
