74 guests' feedbackVery quiet, tidy place with a wonderful hostess who went out of her way to make it comfortable. Single travelers can spend the night there. Very safe.
I was so blessed to have found Kingfisher and Carina and her inviting home surrounded by dogs and warm hospitality. I loved my stay and will certainly recommend Kingfisher.
Kingfisher Lodge's property is beautiful.
Beautiful garden and peaceful. Breakfast was delicious.
Friendly reception and introduction of Graaff-Reinet as a town was appreciated! Room was comfortable, neat and clean. Next morning breakfast was typical Karoo, very tasty!
Safe, quiet, and good breakfast.
The room was tidy but full of all kinds of unnecessary things. The shower head is ergonomic and inefficient.
The shower and basins did not drain. The window in the bathroom looks into a garage and does not open. The decor was very dated. Only 1 roll of single ply toilet paper supplied.
It was comfortable and clean, but very outdated. I know they were possibly trying to maintain the character of the home, but it was a step too far. Our hostess was great and exceptionally helpful.
Good pit stop between the Cape and Underberg. Neat room and bathroom. Cute old fashioned charm.
Very good service, value for money.
Everything was awesome. Breakfast, staff etc.
It was very nice and food was very good. It is very beautiful and neat. We felt very welcome.
Nice overnight place. Breakfast is a bonus.
Met our expectations. Nice pool area. Hearty breakfast.
Breakfast was a bit slow. The rest was as expected. People very pleasant. Felt at home.
Few items in bathroom that need attention, discussed with owner. Breakfast disappointing.
The lodge has so much character. If you like vintage this is the place for you. Carina is very helpful and friendly. The lodge needs some TLC here and there. Nice stay, thank you.
Nice place and very friendly and kind staff.
Not much to say about the place.
Served purpose for overnight. Hostess was very friendly. Place a bit run down but probably to do with economy. Amenities are also very old. Main house beautiful but dilapidated.
Sadly this establishment is quite run down. I'm sure Covid must have effected this little town quite a bit. Some money would need to be spent to bring it up to standard. The room was smelling damp, only one bent, half-burned candle available during load shedding, and the bed mattress needs replacing as it's so worn out it feels like you're sleeping on the coils. The shower door is broken and doesn't close, basin tap's hot water didn't work. Sadly I can continue with the list. I'm not a fussy traveller as I've travelled extensively to various countries and establishments. Sadly it just comes across that the owner of this establishment has lost her passion for the business.
Due to load shedding, the lodge did not know about our booking and the room with a double bed was not ready. Slept in room with 2 single beds. Room was neat. Breakfast was disappointing.
Everything was nice and so fresh and clean, the only thing is that they don't serve dinners, after driving far you don't feel like driving and looking for a restaurant.
Clean and quiet on the edge of town by the Sondagsrivier.
Clean, safe and affordable.
Accommodation was not bad for the area.
The images on the web are a far cry form the actual experience. Rooms were not clean. The bath drain has not been cleaned in years. The fan in the room was not working. Rooms had a "old man" smell. The literature in the room was made up of one 2017 magazine and a 2017 auction brochure. Everything seemed old and in need of TLC. I get Covid has palced restrictions on maintenance, but clenliness does not cost money. Its a matter of pride and effort.
Just too old and tired - photos definitely quite a few years old.
Thanks for the stay, bed was nice and linen clean, but property in general very neglected and security not wafers. Furniture is very redundant and can make one feel cramped. I think the owner just needs to renovate the beautiful property a bit and at least make it attractive to stay there before she receives guests, but we slept well, thank you.
Flushed the toilet and water shot up out of the basin. The shower drained slowly, the bathroom was cramped and exhausted.
Don't think that what you see on the website is what you will get! Shocking. When we arrived, the mattress was lying on the floor outside with the dogs. Because it was made wet by previous guests.
Will come back for sure.
I booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children. One child is 14 and another is 4. There was a small mattress with a boss carried in for my little daughter. According to me it should have been 2 single beds and a double bed. The dogs are everywhere, from in the room to where we ate breakfast. I am amazed that such a place is listed on the website. In all honesty, I can say that the reception was good and the owner was very friendly. The accommodation is not what the photos show. The photos of how the place is advertised should have been taken when it just opened in those years. I was very surprised to see the rainwater from the gutters being piped into the pool. My children were looking forward to swimming but the pool itself was not clean. The shower shocked us when you touch the taps and the carpet in the room was unbearably dirty.
We stayed 1 night and it was nice and quiet with good facilities.
We had a pleasant two days. The guesthouse is very peaceful and the people are friendly. We had everything we needed.
A beautiful and well maintained property with lots of beautiful, interesting furniture and decorations. Neat, clean and comfortable.
A convenient stopover with what we needed. Linen and towels are a bit tired, but rooms were sufficient for what we needed.
Value for money, lovely spacious rooms furnished with effort and style and great breakfast.
Quiet and safe environment.
Lovely accommodation. Fantastic furnishings. Very comfortable and clean. Apparently there is WiFi available on the veranda. We didn't use it.
Nice place with spacious rooms. Rooms have fridge, microwave, tea and coffee etc. But not very clean. Swimming pool is nice. No WiFi because they can't remember the password.
The fridge doesn't work, the towels are paper thin. There are 6 dogs that like to come into the room. It is worth the price. The place needs a lot of attention.
Drain by room smell was very unpleasant.
Neat clean accommodation. Definitely value for money.
The hostess went to great lengths to accommodate our requests and even gave us access to her kitchen and crockery. The pool and braai facilities were a winner!
Owner very friendly and accommodating. She went out of her way to make my stay pleasant. Recommended anytime. Neat and safe.
Very peaceful after a day's long journey. Unit has all the facilities you need for an overnight stay.
Was neat and safe.
On first appearance it looks fine, but the rooms could do with a bit of maintenance. A small fridge would also have been appreciated as we were travelling with a full cooler box. Fresh juice with breakfast would have been better than cooldrink. An acceptable stopover.
The ceiling fan didn't work and the bed was very small for the two of us. We had to wait for a security guard to let us in and out of the parking area because we didn't have a remote. There was no DStv.
Felt the whole time something was missing. The reception was so-so, Carina was not there. The first grill was very dirty and was not properly cleaned until the next day. The child running on the wooden floors in the house at six in the morning was quite disturbing. The garden and house outside need attention to look like in the photos again. The room was neat and clean and we could sleep peacefully.
Good location and clean bedding. Breakfast was pleasant.
However, Kingfisher Lodge is beautiful and has a rustic feel. We would definitely recommend the lodge to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean place to stay.
Unfortunately, one has to drive through a strange part of Graaff-Reinet to get to the guest house, which immediately makes you feel unsure (and unsafe) about your destination, but is then surprised with the opposite. The guest house is located in a very nice part of town, securely fenced with secure parking. The pool and green trees were an absolute treat after the trip and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was deliciously fresh with delicious fresh coffee. A great place to spend the night and recharge after a day's long drive with a baby.
See the stars.
Very hospitable and friendly place. Just a pity the sewerage caused some problems and discomfort.
Service with breakfast was late, pathetic and full of excuses.
Arrived, received kindly. Morning delicious breakfast.
The room is spacious and very neat. We had a lovely stay. I would just recommend that you mention that there are dogs on the property. When we arrived at reception, we were surrounded by dogs. It is the owner's dogs and they live on the property. It was not a problem for us but it might be for other guests, if you know it might help you make a choice about the booking. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast as well.
Very pleasant stay home. Beautiful surroundings with nice houses on the river bank. Missing milk and ice in the fridge and jam on the dining table bothers me. Also that jam is presented in a large half-used kitchen bottle - can and should be easily corrected! The gate is off track and it is open and the pool's water is not clear. Neighbors' dogs are making noise. Small things that if corrected will have a very positive result. I sound like whining sage but hope this is seen positively. Pull up your socks for a long and sustainable business!
The hostess puts the people in rooms as they arrive - despite having booked a decent room 2 months in advance. So the third adult in our group had to sleep on a pathetic cot. We booked for 3 adults and paid for it. The room is dirty and the ceilings full of marks. The rate is equivalent to a City Lodge rate. Unfortunately this lodge's internet photos are very misleading and this was a bad start to our holiday.
See the stars.
Lovely, peaceful stopover on the long journey to the Eastern Cape from Gauteng.
The overall impression was untidy. The shower door is broken, the mattress soggy, carpets and couches dirty. Definitely not 3 star status as advertised.
As we needed accommodation for a family of four in Graaff-Reinet at short notice, our choice of guesthouses was quite limited. When we arrived around 16:30 it was difficult to find anyone on the premises. The bell at reception didn't seem to work and neither did the helpline phone number posted on the door. We later dialed the landline and made contact. The owner came to open the gate for us but never introduced herself. We took advantage of room 8. It was spacious enough and had enough sleeping space for everyone. With the exception of two electric fans (one in the children's room was out of order) and a ceiling fan, there was no air conditioning. Although there were only two towels, they were clean. Clean towels were also not provided the next day and the protocol where towels on the floor indicate that they must be replaced was also not understood. The linen on the beds was clean and fresh. Extra blankets are available in some of the closets but they are extremely cluttered and among other items that have already had to be thrown away. The cleanliness of the cupboards in room 8 needs serious attention. Tea and coffee facilities in the room are quite basic. The wall between the bathroom and the master bedroom is made of glass bricks which offer no privacy in the bathroom. There are also other items such as empty cardboard boxes piled up in one section of the room. The outer door of the room has a 15x15cm hole in it where a cat door was at one point. This creates the impression of maintenance falling behind. The gate to the premises is not automated and apart from being annoying to get out every time to open the gate, some people may perceive it as a security risk, as there were no burglar bars in front of the windows either. The pool could do with better maintenance. Various items on site could be better maintained or may need to be replaced or discarded. Breakfast was very basic. The first morning we checked in at 08:00 and then fruit salad was already ready. Filter coffee and juice were not to our taste. Staff do not make sure that there is sugar and we had to look for sugar on other tables ourselves every morning. The second morning there was no filter coffee and we were served with instant coffee. Salt jars need to be refilled. Butter should be asked for with toast every time. In general, staff could receive better training in the guest house industry. If I stay in Graaff-Reinet again I will prefer to try other accommodation even if it costs more.
