Need space to hang clothes.
We spent the night and slept well, but struggled a bit with cooking and Eskom cascades without power. Cooking will be so much easier with, among other things, a smaller saucepan or 2, aluminum frying pan, salad bowl, bread and steak knives, and toaster. Eskom power cascades would be easier if there were a gas stove, flashlights or candlelighters. Furthermore, the apartment is very well equipped with a heater and a fan for the cold and warmer days.
We can recommend Klipwerf Self-catering and Camping without reservation, and it will be our first choice for accommodation in Calvinia.

We had access to self-catering, which I prefer, and resources at my disposal (fridge, stove, microwave, warm water).
As we're on the road a lot, we sleep in quite a few guest houses. This one in particular was probably one of the best we've had so far. Thank you so much for accommodating our whole team of men last night. Thank you for the coffee and the extra miles you've gone for them. The cottage is small, bathroom is small, with a small shower with a shower curtain. It makes showering less enjoyable. Probably ok for a 1-night stay, but we won't use it again. No extra toilet paper was put out. Only a quarter roll available. The toilet was also clogged and we had to have the landlord come back to attend to it.
Was bitterly cold but electric blanket helped. Luck made it difficult.
Unit was well equipped - provides for cold and hot days. Unit smelled of smoke - could have just opened it in the morning to ventilate. Traffic noise may be a problem for light sleepers.

Very friendly host, was kindly received, real milk with our coffee and delicious biscuits. Calvinia's street racers competed a bit in the morning hours, but it's not the host's fault, the police vehicles were too slow to catch them. Very nice and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price.

Warm beds were so nice.
Klipwerf Self-catering was like an oasis in Calvinia for us after a very long journey from the Cape. Elmarie and Albert are dear people and welcomed us warmly. The rondavel we slept in was beautiful inside. We were surprised with all the antiques inside as well as the beautiful antique furniture. Everything is decorated artistically and with a lot of love. It was equipped with DStv, a heater and an electric blanket. Everything you need was there. Albert offered to go and buy us meat and also brought us some of his delicious sausage that he makes himself. We are kosher and were very surprised that his shop is also kosher. We were spoiled with crumbly porridge and delicious sauce that Albert himself made for us. We can really highly recommend Elmarie and Albert's Klipwerf Self-catering, because they were the perfect host and hostess for us. They go out of their way to accommodate you. We will stop by their place for a nice cup of coffee if we drive through Calvinia again.
The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Accommodations are very neat and perfect for families.
I would recommend staying at Klipwerf as a half way stop between Western Cape and the Northern Cape. Calvinia being the lamb meat capital of SA, you have to make sure you braai at Klipwerf. The owners made sure we were happy and we felt very welcomed.

We were pleasantly surprised. The stay was just to rest for the night before we drive on for vacation. Elmarie was friendly and gave regular communication/feedback. Kitchen has everything you can think of.

The place is right on the main road, literally 5 meters from a busy main route where trucks move through the night. The braai place is so to speak in the street. I had to unload my whole car because the parking is practically on the street.

Elmarie and Jasper were very welcoming and accommodating in helping us meet our needs. Would definitely recommend staying at Klipwerf. Either the rondawel or the woonstel are great. We stayed in both at the start and the end of our "stap" on the botterkloof enduro. And they stored our vehicle for 6 days under prime shade cover while we were on our "stap" at no extra cost. We had a great stay in Klipwerf. The house is big and there was everything we needed. The owner is very friendly and helpful and I could leave my car there myself for the week seeing as I did the Hantam Walk. I really appreciated it and their hospitality will always stay with me! We were pleasantly surprised with the fantastic stay in Calvinia. From winter sheets, extra heaters, a bath for the little ones (not just a shower), to extra blankets. For a place where people know how cold it can get, and in the middle of winter's stay, getting cold was the last thing we thought of. We were welcomed warmly, everything was in working order, and the place was very nice and clean, we will definitely return, and can definitely recommend them.

This was a quick overnight stay coming from the Kalahari on the way to Sutherland. Lovely and warm accommodation as Calvinia was cold that night. Owners were friendly and allowed me to store my camping equipment on the day of departure as I had a damaged tyre that needed to be replaced before I could depart, which meant that I would potentially check out later than 10:00.
Klipwerf is an ideal stopover if you are traveling to or from the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Unit is very well equipped and tidy.

We stayed at Klipwerf Self-Catering for one night after a long trip. The staff was very helpful, no matter the type of request. We received VIP treatment, an extra bed was requested because we added an extra person to our original booking and Elmarie Rheeder sorted it out and made us feel at home. If we do happen to pass thru Calvinia again, we will surely make use of Klipwerf Self-Catering again.

We chose the Karoo for a total new experience and feeling of what we are used to. Klipwerf offered just the feeling we were looking for. The place offers a sense of tranquility and some of the vintage furniture brought back pleasant memories. Elmarie and Styn stood by their hospitality and helpfulness, it made the stay very special.
We arrived in temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius. The owner promptly put us in a larger living unit that was equipped with air conditioning. We were very grateful for that. Everything anyone would need was available.
What we really enjoyed about the campsite is the fact that each pitch has its own ablution block. Pitches are a bit small and the ground is very hard, we luckily found a place for our tent between some trees and were able to anchor our tent to the trees. The owners and staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and comfortable.

The shower is in the bath. Not a problem, but a glass panel could prevent water all over the floor.

Felt very welcome. Bungalow is very pretty on the inside. Would recommend that aircon instead of a fan is installed in bungalow. Overnight price too low compared to other places for the same conveniences. Will recommended all to overnight there.

Centrally situated, typical small town limited self-catering establishment.
The campsite is small, but OK for a one-night stopover. We travelled from Tankwa Karoo to Augrabies, and for us this was a good break. The campsite is directly next to a busy road, so you will be wakened early by the trucks to Upington. The facilities are fine.
It was clean and neat. Too many things that take up space with no space to put your bags. I'm still waiting on the owner to bring the WiFi password. We ran short on toilet paper and there were no extra's. When I asked the maid the next morning, she said she gave the list a week ago already. If your have no other option, it's okay.

On arrival we were pleasantly surprised with the neat display of Klipwerf. Very well advertised and parking good. The reaction upon stepping in was one of friendliness and professionalism. Quick completion of formalities by Elmarie. Apartment has enough parking in front of the door. Binnehof speaks of sustained attention. Apartment interior is therefore not a surprise by the neat display and invitation to stay. Als in its place and a place for als. Hamtam Klipwerf Gastehuis has a range of accommodation types to suit all guests. First, there are 2 self-catering units and each comprises an open-plan lounge and kitchen, a bathroom and a bedroom. All self-catering units have air-conditioning, TVs with Open view channels and outside braai areas.
The en-suite room has basic self-catering facilities, a double bed and an outside braai area. The open-plan rondavel has a kitchen, bathroom and a sleeping area, which contain a double bed and 1 single bed. The grassy campsite can accommodate up to 12 guests and each site has its own bathroom, braai area and power point.
Secure off-street parking is available for all guests. A laundry service is available at an additional cost.
Calvina is situated at the foot of the Hantam mountain, which forms part of the Akkerendam Nature Reserve. The reserve is a popular attraction, providing hiking trails and picnic spots.
