23 guests' feedbackOn our arrival, we were asked by the receptionist if we had been before. On replying 'No, we haven't', she said 'shame', which it definitely was. If you are thinking about going, 'go'! Chalets beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Hike to Disa Pools was a fairly easy trail to the first pools, then a lot of rocks on the trail for the inexperienced or older walker. The only disappointment was the wine tasting, which we felt was very expensive at R120 per head for not great wines.
Amazing staff and restaurant food was very enjoyable. Great wine and beers offered and the amenities were great.
Very pleasant experience. Will definitely visit again.
Clean and tidy. I can't wait to go back again. It is a must to be able to make a trip there.
Simply a wonderful location and very special place.
The service at reception was very good. We felt very much at home.
Our stay in one of the luxury cottages was very pleasant. The cottages are modern and comfortably furnished with quality finishes. Everything we needed was available - electric blankets, a giant fireplace in the living room and fireplaces with woodburners in both bedrooms and even a dishwasher. The natural beauty in the area is truly exceptional and ideal for any person who loves the outdoors.
Lovely shady campsites with own bathing facilities - simple but clean and tidy. The WiFi is an unexpected bonus - not essential, but still nice to be able to easily connect with family.
Very spacious camping spot from which one can go on many adventures. Note that you must be a prepared camper because there is no kitchen with a fridge.
Fabulous place to camp, love the ablution facility per campsite, need to spend at least a weekend due to the offroad distance.
We travelled via Op-die-Berg according to route description that came with the booking documents we received. After a nightmarish gravel road we eventually reached our destination. We mentioned the terrible road at reception only to be told we should have taken the N7/Algerai road, apparently much better and shorter. My question is: why recommend the long, terrible road if a much better, shorter route exists? Reception is an imposing new building that creates a good impression. The lady at reception was very friendly and helpful. But we were told that they reserved a different unit for us, not the one we payed for. They couldn't give us a reason for the move, but they assured us that the unit was the same quality and also furnished with a double bed. The lady explained the route to the unit and said the names of the houses are indicated on the houses. We searched for a long time before we found it because the names are not visible from the road. Fiskaal was the opposite of the reception. We were shocked by the state and the quality of the place. Not suitable for civilised people at all. We didn't know what they took us for, but we felt humiliated and insulted. But we were tired after a long day on the road so we decided to make the best of a bad situation. The sign on the front door asked us to check the inventory of kitchen appliances to ensure accuracy. We compiled a list of missing items because we weren't prepared to pay for it. We handed the list in at reception and we said we're doing it because we owned a guest house before and that we didn't want to be held responsible for the missing items. There were some other people at reception but no arrangements were made to replace the missing items. But it was quite obvious that these people do not appreciate complaints. The antagonism was palpable. To avoid further unpleasantness we didn't say anything about the state of the unit. When we returned from reception a cleaner was replacing the missing items. The note on the door was contradictory about kitchen refuse disposable so we tried to ask the cleaning lady for some clarification, she couldn't help us. According to the instructions some items should be recycled and others should be removed by the guests. But she couldn't tell us where to put recyclable items. But she told us she would bring a receptacle for the pig food. She also told us that she would bring a mop for us to clean the floors. The sign on the door asked us to "leave the place in the same condition [we] would like to find it". If we took this request seriously I would have had to: (1) Move the bathroom indoors because it was located on the patio so you had to go outside at night if you wanted to use the toilet. My wife was afraid to go out at night so I had to get up to accompany her. (2) I would have furnished the bathroom with a decent basin to be able to wash my face and my hair properly. The current basin is tiny, you can barely wash your hands properly. (3) I would have secured the loose taps at the basin. Both taps, pipes and all, were loos and we were worried they would come apart. (4) I would have repaired the leaky tap at the basin. (5) I would have fixed the leaky toilet. (6) I would have tiled the bathroom floors and walls. (7) I would have replaced the broken bathroom doorknob. (8) I would have fumigated the place to get rid of the ants and cockroaches. We empitied an entire can of Doom during the two nights in an attempt to control the insects. (9) I would have replaced the concrete with comfortable beds. (10) Power points in the bedrooms. (11) Grill stand at the braai. The large boulders are not convenient at all. (12) I would have used my own staff to clean the place properly after it was vacated. It seems as though they rely on the guests tot do the cleaning. Why else would the staff provide a mop so you can clean the floors. We booked 3 nights at Kromrivier because I wanted to celebrate my 65th birthday in the wonderful Cederberg Mountains. After our second night at Fiskaal we couln't stand the inconvenience anymore so we checked out the following morning. We mentioned these issues to the lady at reception as our reasons for leaving early. As I mentioned before, there were people at reception the first day, if they were the owners they didn't have the decency to introduce us. We owned a guest house (3 star as graded by the SA Grading Council). If I have to use their grading system to rate Fiskaal it would get minus 3 stars. When we checked-out I asked the lady at reception way we didn't get the house we paid for, she told us she didn't know because someone else did the booking. During our stay we had a look at the place we booked, we peeked through the windows, and it looked like a much better place and the bathroom is in the building. It also has a beautiful view of the dam, at Fiskaal we had a view of the shrubs on the dam wall. The fact that they changed our unit without notifiying us places a huge question mark behind the trustworthiness of management. I will never forget my 65th birthday, unfortunately not for the right reasons According to reviews previous guests have also complained about Kromrivier. We've stayed at 6 other guesthouse and we've always been very satisfied.
See the stars.
The rate was fair, but we experienced the truth of the saying "You get what you pay for". The overall impression with which we left was that Kromriver does not have good customer service as a priority, but would rather spend as little as possible on tourists, as well as to find as many ways as possible to make money from tourists. Granted, they want successful business, but then they should take heed of the following commentary: 1. After checking in at reception, it took us 20 minutes to find the house. Handing a plan of the terrain to guests, or putting up signs to designate the names of the different houses shouldn't be too much of an effort or expense. 2. We realised that night that there was no soap in the bathroom. We let them know the next morning, but were informed by Samantha that they don't supply soap. How much would soap cost them? We were also not informed beforehand that there wouldn't be soap, that one has to buy soap from them. For the 3 nights that our family of 5 stayed there, only 2 rolls of toiletpaper were provided so that we had to buy extra rolls from them. How much would it really cost them to ensure enough rolls for the duration of our stay? (In Mount Cedar 6 rolls were supplied). 3. The restaurant's prices are excessive, e.g. R25 for a capuccino (at Mount Cedar, a 4 star establishment, R20 buys you a coffee and 2 koeksisters). In this respect, Kromriver doesn't seem to have good business sense - were their restaurant prices less excessive, one might actually make use of it. 4. WiFi is very expensive - R30 for 100MB. 5. To top it all off, the night before our departure the house where we stayed was flooded with gray water (from the shower and sinks). We could see that it's an old problem. Upon mentioning that to Samanta the next morning, she merely replied "Oh". A more suitable response would have been to be apologetic. Kromriver still has much to learn to show that guests' interests are a priority. We wish them improvements and success for the future.
So peaceful and a great breakfast.
Here you can recharge your batteries. Kromrivier is our favorite accommodation option in the Cedar Mountains as it is slightly off the main route and is therefore quieter and more peaceful. Rhinda and her staff really make you feel part of the family.
Great destination and wonderful getaway. Friendly owners.
Accommodation is ideal for mountain climbers or someone who wants to explore the Cedar Mountains. Cederberg cellar is nearby and there are many things to do in the area.
Stunning accommodation in the heart of the Cederberg! A comfortable and clean accommodation.
The area is the biggest attraction, but the stay is immensely enjoyable! One of the biggest pluses is that you can do whatever your heart desires!
We loved swimming in the dam and the river. Beautiful quiet cottages beside the dam. Very clean and with everything we needed. Some cottages have a bath, others have a shower. We got lost on the way to the Disa Pool, but enjoyed the caves, and the rock pools in the river.
The accommodation meets the needs, we would only have liked more kitchen accessories.
May need to pay attention to comfortable chairs in chalet. The grill was also not sufficient.
We all enjoyed it.
