6 guests' feedbackThe accommodation was beautiful. The food was out of this world (compliments to the amazing chef we had). The guide we had (KG) was amazing. So engaging, always in good spirits and went out of his way to make it a good experience for everyone. The general staff was also very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the drinks and the lack of having any braai/boma fire. We actually chose this place over another place because the drinks were included. But honestly most of the time between meals and activities, there is no one around to actually ask for drinks and the choices were also quite limited. As for the braai and fire - we were told we'd have a nice braai outside on the second night, which never happened, and when we (and our fellow guests) requested for the boma fire at least, we were told they do not have a fire pit anymore. Considering that this is a huge attraction and reason we (and clearly other guests) went there, the fact that accommodation in the bush simply cannot provide this was a really big disappointment for us. We still enjoyed the rest of the experience and glad we went, but this is enough for us to unfortunately not return again, so I would urge them to correct this and urge future clients to ensure this before booking.
As a family with a disabled son and a daughter with a super allergy to herbs, this team took such good care of us! My daughter was able to enjoy her meals with gusto without worrying about a visit to a hospital - Johannes, the cook, looked after her exceptionally well! It was so nice to be able to rest there! And what an amazing guide Ben was - first class. I rested so much (and gained weight from all the good eating), it was super pampering weekend.
Very nice luxury tents with everything you need. You cannot get to the camp by yourself. You are picked up by Kwafubesi's staff and then kidnapped to the land of tranquility. No children are allowed, which means you can switch off and rest. The game drives were very good. Werner, our guide, was very sharp. We saw lions, rhinos, leopards and buffalo. Four out of the Big 5 is not bad, and then also hordes of all the other animals. Food was probably the one department that could improve. The variation in the set three-course meals was good, but the "sirloin" was e.g. overcooked No option was given for your preference on how well done you want the meat. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Make sure you have everything you need along the lines of snacks etc. otherwise you have to be taken back to the main camp at Mabula to buy it. There is a full bar if you might get thirsty.
So disappointed after our visit to Kwafubesi, which is a pity, because it's such a beautiful place with so much potential. Our ranger was on his own mission. He followed the wildlife he wanted to see, not necessarily what we were interested in. Not very hospitable and didn't really talk to us, so the atmosphere in the camp was quite strained. It felt like we were on a very tight schedule - the last thing you need if you're trying to relax. Dinner: on the website it says "traditional African cuisine" is the chef's specialty, but what we got was cold McCain veggies, a piece of inedible, hard duck wing with no meat and 2 hash browns? R215 for a bottle of Beyerskloof Pinotage is ridiculous! After dinner we wanted to chill around the fire, but the ranger that had to accompany us to our tent kept looking at his watch impatiently, which made us uncomfortable, so we headed back to our tent at 20:00? Tents: Incredibly beautiful, but it's very cold in the tent. A gas heater or something like that would have made it more pleasant. Our one electric blanket wasn't working, so we had to share a bed. Like I said, a lot of potential, but very disappointing.
See the stars.
Kwafubesi is a beautiful lodge. We had excellent service. Food was outstanding. We all had a wonderful weekend and definitely recommend Kwafubesi to anyone who loves the bushveld and wants to be spoiled. The manager and ranger are very friendly and accommodating. We saw 4 of the Big Five and Greg the Ranger went out of his way to make our game drives special. We had a wonderful experience.
