8 guests' feedbackThe place is rated as a 4-star establishment, and the treatment I received from the staff sure felt like it. The rest of the stay, however did not feel like it. The room had no fridge, the shower is built into the bath and the bath is very small and difficult to climb into. I was not aware that the establishment had dogs and my bath towel were clean, but unfortunately had dog hair. I also stepped on dog poop during my breakfast. I could get an iron to press my clothes, I had to book a paid laundry laundry service.
I booked Loxley House (2 rooms) for us as a family due to the good reviews and location. Willing to pay That rate in town, but then we expect everything to be right. On arrival there was no one at reception! I literally had to walk into the house and shout 'hello' for attention. Unacceptable. Rooms shown. No one offered to help unload our luggage. Unacceptable. Asked after dinner: No, we don't. Booked at the hotel. The meal at the hotel was very good! Bathrooms very poorly designed. A shower inside bath in the price range is simply not acceptable. Then the shower leaks so that the whole bathroom floor is wet afterwards. No, no, no. Back at Loxley House after dinner at the hotel we realize that MTN has no or very poor mobile reception. We were not given Wi-Fi codes upon arrival. Late at night and the guest house is deserted. No number in room to call. Very, very inconvenient. Only guests in guesthouse. We felt really unsafe as all the doors of the house are left unlocked. Next morning at breakfast - lady with cold serving us. No one asking if everything was okay. Another lady in her gym clothes came by and asked if we were going on holiday. I assume she was the managers? We again loaded all the luggage into the vehicle ourselves. I went back into the house to say we were leaving. Again no one to talk to. Weak. Leave without any contact. I would not recommend anyone to book here. The offer is not worth the price.
The only complaint I have is that the rooms are so close together that you didn't have a lot of privacy. It would be fine if the people next to you were part of your party, but it was a bit intrusive with strangers right on the doorstep!
Our stay at Loxley House was really a very pleasant experience. Staff are very well trained and extremely professional. Owner and staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at home. It's a beautiful environment where you can spend a day or two to catch your breath. Only negative (mind you not for me as I am a big animal lover) is the fact that there are several dogs and a cat staying in the guest house. This can bother people who are not big animal lovers, as the dogs and cats will make themselves at home very easily and unsolicited on your lap if you use some of the common areas. Otherwise an unforgettable experience.
We will be back.
We so enjoyed our 2 night stay at Loxley, it is a really beautifully appointed lodge. The common areas were cosy and inviting, and the bedrooms were lovely. We were impressed by the service provided by the friendly and professional staff, and above all, we were delighted by the antics of Choco, the chocolate lab, and the 2 pugs.
Angie and her team are professional, and the place is beautiful. The breakfast warm and delicious.
Loxley House's website prides itself on the extraordinary meals it offers. That was one of the reasons why we decided to go there. On the way there, however, we were told "that we are not catering tonight because there are not enough guests". Not the next night either. They did make us a reservation at a local restaurant, but that meant we had to drive. Something I specifically wanted to avoid. The flat sheet on our bed was torn and so was the one towel in the bathroom. No shampoo or hair treatment or shower soap in the bathroom. There are dogs of all sizes and shapes in the living room and dining room. I don't have a problem with that, but I do miss the dog poop I found on the rug behind my chair in the dining room at breakfast [photo available]. The "fruit juice" with breakfast is just bland soda. Then we are still waiting for the hostess to ask if we had a good stay or slept. Overall a very sub-standard experience and definitely not value for money. Not recommended at all.
