As always, a very pleasant and comfortable stay. We enjoyed one of the most picturesque parts of our country, particularly at sunset with the light of the setting sun on the Gifberg Mountains.
The owners made me feel welcome. I felt very safe compared to Cape Town in general. This is a perfect place to go for some peace and quiet. I didn't see another single guest for my entire stay. The units are well spaced, and you feel comfortable knowing you are basically alone. The pool is fantastic. I thought it was heated, although I discovered the Namaqualand Sun is the heater. The farm sells many of the things you might need. I only bought their homemade jam, as I brought everything else along. When I go back again, I will bring very few things along as the units are generously equipped, and many things can be bought at the farm.

The unit was clean and tidy and we had a nice stay. However, the unit is very small and cramped for 4 people. The sink in the bathroom was tearing out of the wall and so the taps were spilling water on the bathroom floor. The lighting in the unit was also very dim, especially in the kitchen.

Well-equipped cottage with a beautiful view of a small pond, flowers and mountains. Ancarene is a special hostess who serves delicious meals. At dinner it was a cozy get-together with a fireplace where Ancerene and Awie spend time together. The farm is a flower sensation and lovely to stay there. The location is ideal for driving around and seeing other flower areas. We can't wait to visit again. Appreciate the WhatsApp communication before check-in.

Hostess friendly and helpful. Comfortable cottage with just what you need, no frills. Here you can sit for hours on the porch and listen to the birds. We didn't go for a walk because it was a rainy weekend, but we definitely would if the weather was sunny. In the wet weather it was beneficial to drive a pickup on the dirt roads. Very glad we could see that side of the world when everything is so beautifully green.
Ancarene is a considerate hostess and her Shepherd's Cottage is completely off the 'grid' which makes the stay carefree. Sitting on the stoep with the Maskaberg right in front of you is a picture to remember!
Trouble in winter is that there is no fireplace indoors or anywhere to have a meal. One has to sit and eat outside with 4 people, as close to the braai area as possible.
The place is particularly beautiful. Just having to pay extra for aircon and cleaning had a negative effect on your future booking.

The accommodation was top notch, only the fridge facilities in the smaller houses could perhaps be upgraded to bigger and better ones. Other than that everything was perfect.
It's very off the beaten track, which is what we wanted. The facilities are basic but totally sufficient for a short break. The owner and staff are lovely and the breakfasts are great - they're so friendly and very helpful. The only thing they need to consider is their cleanliness, which is very poor.

Well-equipped cottage with a beautiful view of the Mask mountains from a porch with a covered braai.
We stopped here on the way back from Springbok. Perfect. At the foot of the Gifberg, it offers great cycling options. A nice 30km route if time is short, or a 65km route over and around the mountain which I will surely do next time. Of course, there are also shorter routes on the farm for those who don't want to walk that far. Nice walking options if your bike is not nearby. We will definitely go back to take pictures in the starry night. The friendly reception and great service was welcome after a long day. The farm breakfast is certainly the right way to start the new day. We look forward to our next visit to the farm. Thank you.
Very nice accommodation on the farm and has everything one needs.
As always a very comfortable and relaxing place not far from the hustle of the N7 but yet very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful views with the constantly changing also beautiful colours of the Gifberg which descends on the serenity of this working guest farm.
The apartment was great and tidy with everything you need. There is nice walking space on the farm, but please note that dogs must be on a leash. There are sheep and donkeys and horses and a beautiful pond. The mountains surround you and it's not even far from the N7. The farm breakfast there was more than I could have asked for and so tasty. Our dinner was just as delicious, well worth it after a long day on the road. Hospitality and quality at every level. Lulu will miss Frenchie, they had so much fun walking together.

Comfortable beds. Great stoep for relaxing or braaing and a tremendous view of the Maskam mountains which are set in an amphitheatre. Kitchen facilities are somewhat limited; decent fridge, 2 solid plate stove incorporating grill/oven, toaster, microwave but little prep area. The drive to the top of the Gifberg Pass provides glorious views and a surprising variety of flora.
Everything you need in one room. Lovely bed and the spacious bathroom with its giant shower was especially pleasant. The most delicious organic rooibos and various jams are for sale. I can confidently recommend it. We will definitely stay at Maskam again, but next time definitely for more than 1 day. Great time at Maskamberg, view over Gifberg is breathtaking. Unfortunately we were only there one night so we didn't use the pool and restaurant facility. Utility power is not a problem as the cottage has solar power with gas water heater and two plate gas stove.

Apart from the many 6 km dirt road that us city jays are not used to, the self-catering cottages have everything you need for a weekend break. The view of the mountain is fantastic. The hostess is friendly and very helpful. We will definitely visit again.

We spent 2 nights in Klaas Skaapwagter during the flower season. The cottage is well furnished and comfortable. The fireplace was lovely during the cold weather. The hostess was very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the area. The flower trail on the farm was beautiful. This is a destination I would recommend.

Maskam Guest Farm is the ideal overnight stay that we would love to book again in the future. The reception by Ancarene was warm and friendly, and the farm breakfast they offer is carefully prepared, tasty and rounded off with rooibos tea grown on the farm. The Mountain Goose unit where we spent the night was very well furnished and we were able to enjoy a glass of wine while our little fire burned with the sun casting its rays over the Maskam and Gif mountains. Next time we come for longer!
We stayed in Suikerbekkie and it was very neat, spacious and fully equipped for 2 people. The bed and chairs were also very comfortable and not squishy. The wind was blowing terribly but we could still lie on the bed and look at the mountains and also sit on the easy chairs inside and still be able to see the beautiful mountains/surroundings. It was incredibly peaceful and soul renewing. We also felt very safe on the farm. We had a 2-course dinner on Friday night and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the restaurant and the food was delicious. Bonus was being able to buy delicious lamb chops from Awie to grill yourself. We also bought some of the jam that was available in the accommodation and it is delicious! Many thanks to Awie and staff for incredible kindness and hospitality that made our stay extremely pleasant. We will definitely visit again and take the kids with us to enjoy the freedom.

We immediately felt at home and experienced the farm atmosphere. The location under the Gifberg is excellent. Ancarene's guidance on sightseeing was very helpful so that we could discover even more hidden gems. The most delicious breakfast and home-baked bread and jam make us want to go back.

Stop looking or doubting - just book it. Traveled by motorbike (with road tires on) and the dirt road was quite doable - note that some +- 15cm deep ponds form in the road with rain. Well laid out with privacy in mind. The family makes you feel right at home - their son welcomed me on my second visit when Ancarene and her husband were not at home. Friendly staff, very clean, beautiful view, nice hiking trail, lovely shower, comfortable bed, DStv with sports channels, good braai wood (at a very reasonable price). 20 sheep and some cattle in front of the porch in the morning and evening was a bonus. If they add covered parking I'm moving in permanently!

The cottage is beautiful and we were warmly received. The rain made it even more enjoyable. Our hostess did her best to compensate for the power and the internet that went down (which of course was not her fault) and dry-cleaned our clothes. After the rain, the early flowers were lovely. The two flower routes are manageable for walking as well.

They sell delicious fudge and cookies. The cottages are very well equipped and were painfully neat and clean. This was the most useful time of our lives. It was the most peaceful, family orientated space. I enjoyed the flowers, animals and the warm hospitality from the owners.
Nice location, friendly service and very well equipped unit (Kokkewiet). Very neat. Very good barbecue place. Only one big gap is that there is no door between the sleeping area, living room and kitchen and the bathroom and toilet.
We really enjoyed our time. The cottage was comfortable, air conditioning in the master bedroom was so necessary and nice, kitchen small, but fully equipped. Porch with barbecue has incredible view. Swimming pool was great fun, our little girl (younger than 3) swam non-stop. Tip: maybe take poison and fly poison with you, just place it. Also shoes, we found a scorpion on the porch one night. Also, dirt road up there was not bad, but for further routes you need a 4x4.
Mountain goose house is very neat and clean and very well equipped. We had a great swim and relaxed. Will definitely go back again.

Maskam Guest Farm - one of the most amazing places. The accommodation is a good 3 star, complimentary WiFi that actually works, DStv, air-con, fabulous shower - just divine. I highly recommend that you order dinner and breakfast - the food is absolutely delicious and really good value for money. I would happily recommend this accommodation to everyone. And the owner - what a lovely lady! She makes you feel comfortable and at home, and is very accommodating.

We arrived around 19:00 and were warmly received and taken directly to our accommodation unit. Everything was clean and tidy and we were fully informed about the operation of the gas stove, as well as attractions in the area. Unfortunately, it was foggy the next morning and we couldn't visit the sights so we continued our journey. We would stay there again anytime and hopefully then be able to see the sights.

Very neat setup and has everything needed for a self-catering barbecue. One dinner useful which consisted of terribly tasty bobotie. The breakfast is also very elegant and tasty. Didn't need the air conditioning, but find the extra R50 surcharge if you use it like that a bit unnecessary. Otherwise highly recommended.
Very well equipped and tidy house on a quiet farm with beautiful views. It is accommodation that fits in with the surroundings, but that is precisely why the price is too high. For the price, you expect more spacious rooms, more modern bathrooms and more comfortable mattresses or beds.

As a result of my work, I travel quite a lot. These 2 bedrooms (each with its own bathroom) really stood out above all the guesthouses I have visited. The views and hiking trails, especially in the flower season, are exceptional. I can recommend it to everyone.

It was a wonderful experience to be able to spend the night literally almost in the shadow of the Gifberg. Just a shame we didn't check in until after sunset and in the process missed the red glow of the setting sun on the mountain. The accommodation is neat and well equipped with a delicious braai area on the covered porch. The breakfast on the veranda was a hit. None of the bedside lights in the one bedroom worked. It's a very disappointing experience when you crawl into bed full of anticipation with an interesting book and then you can't read. The bathroom/toilet door latch did not work at all. These are minor irritations that are totally unnecessary.
We were kindly received and the hostess showed us our unit and gave us information about the area as well. There is also an information sheet in the unit that gives a lot of additional information. On the comfortable footpath there are many special plants to be seen and when we visited there were also early spring flowers after the recent rain. The sunsets are also exceptional, especially when the late sun falls on the mountain ridges. We ordered dinner once and it was very nice. We would love to go there again to get away from the city and to be able to enjoy the silence and clean air while being comfortably housed.
The wonderful place is not easy to find and you have to drive almost 10 km of gravel road. The drive was worth it and we were surprised to find the two cute tandem houses on the farm. There is really everything you need, even an air conditioner. There is a notice in the house that you have to get his 'remote' from the office for R40 per day. It's a bit harsh as they have a solar generator just behind the houses. Wonderfully peaceful place, it's just you, nature and mountains around you. In the evening you sit outside under a sky full of stars. It was very windy but on the seat outside you sit out of the wind.

We were looking for a stopover between Cape Town and Noordoewer. Dianne quickly reacted on our booking and was very helpful with everything. The directions to the farm is not ideal and the GPS didn't want to work with us - I recommend that they include a detailed description of the route to make it clear. Accommodation was comfortable, everything clean and Dianne made a delicious breakfast and brought it to the house - big treat! I think it is worth it to stay longer and experience Van Rhynsdorp.

We stayed in Berggans cottage, the most perfect view of the Gifberge! It was beautiful, peaceful, close to the pool. Cottage was super clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Our 3 year old especially enjoyed the pool and play areas and Coco our Labrador enjoyed everything as well, especially French, the farm dog, who stayed over at our cottage for 2 nights as well, sweetest dog. Thank you Magdaleen, you and your staff made us feel so welcome and at home, it was a lovely stay on the farm. We hope to be back soon for another lovely breakaway from the city.

What a breathtaking place! The Mask mountains (mountain of water). As I write here, I long to go back. Upon our arrival, Ancarene was friendly and welcomed us sincerely. She showed us where we live and made us feel comfortable. The view from the unit took our breath away. The nature and bird life is really something special. The unit is well furnished and tidy. The book with the farm's story, as well as all the things to do in the area was a nice read! It was also wonderful to be able to braai on the stoep. Look, I've never seen so many stars! We admired ourselves with a cold Amarula in hand. Maskam Guest Farm is a must in and out of season!
The only negative of our stay at Maskam is that it was too short. We were actually just looking for a place to spend the night halfway between Kakamas and the Cape. The hospitality, tranquility and the cottage at Maskam were of outstanding quality. The breakfast we received from the landlady's kitchen could actually be classified as "comfort food" and hopelessly too much for us to finish. Next visit to Maskam will definitely be longer!
We had a great experience. The welcome was warm and the stay lovely. We traveled with our two dogs and we were very comfortable. There is an incredible view and the area has a lot to offer. Ancarene really went the extra mile for us and we will definitely go back and recommend Maskam Guest Farm to anyone who wants to experience nature and rest, or adventurous people who want to "explore" and drive around.

The Berggans is a well-equipped, neat little house away from the others and it was lovely to sit on the veranda and see the beautiful mountains in front of you. It was full moon this weekend and what an experience to see it come out from behind the Maskaberg and light up the earth! It makes you realize again that the mountains are not man-made and you feel closer to your creator. I would recommend anyone to recharge their batteries at the Maskam Guest Farm and would definitely go there again. I pray, hope and trust that the necessary rain will soon fall on the farm and in the district as well so that the fields can turn beautifully green again because then it will be a paradise!

We arrived at Maskam very tired after only 4 to 5 days on the Orange River. The place was like an oasis. It has the most beautiful views of the Maskam and Gifberge. Fully equipped, tidy and everything was in the right place which made it quick and easy for us to get ready for a nice braai. Unfortunately we were only there for 1 night as a stopover on the way back home. Would definitely recommend that people drive the path up the mountain to see the view.

I had a wonderful stay and will definitely visit again. The accommodation is superbly designed and equipped. The availability of farm produce for sale is a bonus, as is the firewood for sale. The houses offer a beautiful view and are located in such a way that one is not aware of each other.
If you are looking for a place to relax and do pretty much nothing, then this is the place for you. Hang out in the pool or relax on the veranda. Both with breathtaking views. We chose to pay for breakfast and dinner. The food was top notch. The place has a lot of potential. Here and there something in the cottage that can be fixed. Was a very pleasant experience.

We had a great stay and the hostess went out of her way to make it as comfortable as possible for us. Solar power is used which makes it difficult with hair dryers etc. The hostess had turned on the generator for us early in the morning so that she could blow dry my hair. I would say the price is a bit much for the convenience.
We were received very kindly and shown the ropes. The house (Klaas Skaapwagter) has room for 6 people but I would say max 4 people will be able to stay there comfortably. The pool is very nice and I liked the idea of buying homemade products there. Everything was very nice and will definitely sleep there again.
A private splashpool at the house is all that's needed to make this absolutely perfect for the summer evenings. There's a swimmingpool, but it's close to the homestead. Other than that we went for walks on the farm and had time to just 'be'. The sunsets that colour the Maskam mountains are lovely. Since we were there in November Orion rose from behind the Maskam mountains at sunset every day. Soulfood.

The unit we occupied was spacious and beautifully modernly furnished. The fitted kitchen had all the utilities you could possibly need to see to your day to day cooking needs. The scenery makes you feel like you in heaven, it’s peaceful and calm and really breathtaking. We were very sad that we did not have enough time to fully enjoy all that this beautiful place had to offer. The host was so warm and friendly. I will definitely go back and book for a longer period.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay so much! Stunning nature and it is very safe. The place is beautiful, clean, and neat, very good matress. Ancarene is very friendly and helpful. We had nice walks on the farm with our 2 doggies and we drove up Gifberg Pass to the beautiful view! We only missed an extra table for meals or storage, and maybe one outside next to the braai, but it is subjective.

Ancarene was most welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. She made very useful suggestions of what to do and see in the area. Although dry, there were lovely walks and drives, and the mountains were just too beautiful. Our bed was comfortable and the aircon was especially useful. The kitchen was fully kitted and the bathrooms spacious and modern. We stayed in Berggans, which was more secluded. We did not make use of the pool, but spent many hours on the veranda. Will return in late winter for a longer than two nights, which was just too short to view the wild flowers.

We relaxed there for 2 days and nights. We were warmly received and everything was prepared for our arrival. From there we visited the Gifberg mountain. The views over Gifberg were breathtaking, especially during sunset. This was a relaxing visit, we would definitely return.
The silence and tranquility is wonderful. The stay will still be enjoyed as long as we keep grape jam. The plates of flowers were beautiful. The poison mountain and old mountain passes are also really a must see. Would go there again any day.

We spent the night at Maskam on the way from Windhoek to George. After the long journey, the peaceful farm life was a relief. The ideal place where we stayed as a family for Christmas 2016. The one half of the family came from Upington and the other half from Hermanus.
The reception was good, however difficult to find if you don't have a GPS. The view of Kamberg is fantastic and it's quite something to see the cars driving down the pass at night. You can buy tea that was cultivated on the farm, which was a plus.

I gave this as a birthday present to my Dad. He turned 84 years old in August. They loved to sit back on the stoep and overlook the mountains. They took a drive every day to different areas and loved every minute of their stay. I am for sure going to do this trip myself next year!

The furniture and fixtures are outdated. Shower doesn't work well. General impression is that the place needs drastic renovation. In terms of standard, it was far above all the places we stayed from Kuruman to back in the Cape. The long drive out of town on a bad road was unpleasant.

Was initially going to sleep over 1 night, but then changed our route so that we could sleep there again on the way back. Would have liked to stay longer, but work called. We will definitely see the place often. On the recommendation of the hostess, we drove the Gifberg pass when we left. Was the highlight of our vacation! The hostess also sells the most delicious jam and rooibos tea. We usually pay a lot more for much worse accommodation.
Enjoyed it a lot. House is beautifully furnished with everything one needs. The air conditioning was a big plus in the room as it was bitterly hot. The silence and sunset is something I will definitely long for. The customer service was excellent and true to a country town with its hospitality.

The surroundings - peaceful, soul-reviving; wonderful night-sky (a million stars seen, but not counted). The animals are sheep, goats, cattle. There are pesky flies or at least nature supplies, so best bring incense (citronella helped). Be sure to have a blessed stay.

The cottage is very well laid out and furnished. The service provided was completely beyond any expectations. The hostess Ancarene even went so far as to arrange tires for my car after mishaps on the mountain pass.

It's just a pity the braai facilities are not up to standard.
The farm was interesting - organic rooibos - and story behind Gifberg. Accommodation was clean and comfortable with the exception of the shower which was clean but far too small, with insufficient room for drying. The road in to the accommodation (6 km) of gravel was not pleasant for a small sedan.
This lady is very well organized and offers incredible value for money. She runs her business on good principles and everything is transparent and customer-oriented. We wish her only the best for her future in this industry.

It was our first trip with a 4x4 and also our first flower tour. Everything went well and we drove almost all the routes to see the beautiful flowers. It was an experience and we were able to see all the interesting things... from flowers, succulents, rock formations, beautiful trails and roads with breathtaking waterfalls.

The Vanrhynsdorp accommodation offers 3 two-bedroom cottages as well as 2 studios for couples. All units are fully equipped with DStv, Wi-Fi, coffee- and tea-making facilities and air-conditioner or fan for summer and heater or cosy fireplace for winter. All of these cottages have braai facilities with panoramic views of the surrounding Maskam and Gifberg mountains.
All the kitchens are fully equipped for those that would like self-catering and for those who want to be spoiled, a delicious dinner and full breakfast is served on order.
The activities on the farm include a swimming pool, mountain climbing, walking routes, bird life, bicycle routes, playground, and trampoline for kids and farm animals. During August and September, the farm is covered with beautiful flowers, 1500 species in total. There is a diversity of flowers, for example, the Nama-Karoo succulents, fynbos in the mountains and rare species of bulbs.
Attractions in the area include Gifberg tour, wine tour, Victorian buildings and Kokerboom nursery in Vanrhynsdorp. Day tours could also be done to Nieuwoudtville, Clanwilliam or Strandfontein.
Maskam Guest Farm is the ideal place to unwind and the tranquillity is unbelievable. The magnificent sunsets and galaxy of stars are appreciated by many guests.
