We were on a road trip and stayed 2 nights in Kakamas, while we explored the Orange River and Augrabies falls. We were received by friendly staff and the host who was very helpful and accommodating. The host explained to us what we can see and visit in the area. We really enjoyed our stay. The room was fully equipped, with all we needed. Towels and bedding were of high quality. Rooms were air-conditioned for a pleasant sleep. We had a dip in the swimming pool to cool down. Extra towels were provided. We will recommend the place to our friends. Thank you so much. My visually impaired mother and I spent the night there and they made an awful lot of effort to make it comfortable and special for my mother.
Clean, tidy and attention to small detail that makes it comfortable to stay even just overnight if you travel. There is dish soap, coffee and tea and small containers of milk. Value for money!

We were not received overwhelmingly friendly by the staff. Upon arrival, my 4 foot child was already visible. Before I checked in, I could have been informed that no pets are welcome. I was allowed to sleep on Thursday night without any opposition or information that I had to leave the premises. One terrible cabal kicked and shouted at me and my colleague. Also had no understanding that we were asking to give us 10 min chance to change into pajamas and chat with him. Just kept shouting uncontrollably at our 2 ladies. Furthermore, the fridge didn't get cold - we set it to 1, 5 and 7 at one hour intervals and the fridge temperature remained unchanged. Second, there was no hot water available - all 3 of us took freezing showers. The owner refuses to refund my money, which is unconstitutional. He allowed me to sleep one night and agreed to let my pet spend the night with me. According to the law, I am entitled to my 2 nights booking fee which I have already paid in advance and following the owner's inconsistent behavior towards my pet as well as his shortcomings regarding the fridge and hot water. I expect my 2 nights payment back within 24 hours, otherwise further action will be taken for the inconvenience and personal victimization verbally towards me and my colleague. Extremely poor service - owner extremely inept with no interpersonal relationship for the accommodation industry.
Our daughter was a bit suspicious, she saw the pictures. My mother and I were not afraid. No, the one who doesn't want to spend the night in the Meerkat Compound isn't used to anything better. Nice chat with the owner, all our requests and questions were answered. Perfect. We never felt scared or unsafe.
Not only did we struggle to get into the place for over half an hour, but there was no indication of where you could park or anything. The old uncle who received us was extremely unprofessional and cold. There are a lot of bad knives and forks in the place and the sink taps are rotting out of the slab. The shower heads are whitewashed and the place makes no provision for loadshedding. The whole apartment is full of cockroaches and the service is pathetic. The phone number sent to me is that of the owners who are based in Australia, so we couldn't get hold of anyone. There is no indication on the gate of where to go or call, there is no intercom or bell, so you have to jump around and search to find someone to open for you. There were also only 2 towels provided for 4 guests and nothing was explained to us either, like here is this or that and here is the wi-fi password or anything. I would never recommend anyone to stay there and would never stay there again myself.
We originally looked up Meerkat with Garmen GPS and unfortunately did not arrive at the correct location. Marius went out of his way to get us to them. People just have to look carefully it's Meerkat Compound and not Meerkat camping accommodation. . Everything in the apartment was so clean and tidy. The aircon was already on for us after a sweltering 38 degrees by 18:00 in the evening. Marius came to follow up the next morning to see if we were happy. I will definitely stay with them again!

Nice place to visit.
We went to see Augrabies and had a great stay at Meerkat. The second night it rains 113 mm in Kakamas and when we get up at 6 o'clock in the morning our place is about 100 mm under water. The owner was already looking at what he could do to control the inflowing water. By 8:30 he had arranged for us another place to stay. Nice people, we would stay there again anytime.
We also ate at Khamkiri and tasted wine at Die Mas wine cellar. The road through the Karoo and Northern Cape from George and back again was very interesting.
It is a beautiful village with what we could see beautiful heritage places. The Orange River running through the vineyards is a beautiful sight. The visit to the Augrabian Waterfall was an experience.
I would have liked it if there was double ply toilet paper, for the price we paid. Other than that, no complaints.

We took a 1 bedroom with king size bed, plus living room with 2 sofa beds, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Older furniture but in good condition. Reception was very helpful. Arranged in advance for a power point for the fridge which had no extra charge. Owner is familiar with the area and gave us a lot of information. Even persuaded to change our tour plan and visit Riemvasmaak first. Comfortably furnished with everything a traveler needs. The room was very clean and tidy. WiFi was also available. The location of Meerkat Compound is opposite the main road, close to supermarket, petrol pumps and restaurant. Stayed safe but for light sleepers the traffic in main road might be a problem. Room may just have a mirror close to a wall plug for women who use a hair dryer.

Location of Meerkat Compound in Kakamas is economical in regards with driving in and out to tourist attractions and it's also affordable. The rooms are very nice and neat and deliciously cool. The wifi is also a plus. The service is very good and the bottles of water in the fridge were a pleasure! We only had a little trouble beforehand to get in touch with the management regarding queries.
Exactly as mentioned: The unit has 1 small window in the bathroom and another small window next to the front door. No mirror in the bedroom to blow dry your hair. The showerhead is old and ineffective. The equipment is sufficient, but unit 4 of the Compound is not really suited for more than an overnight stay.
These owners are people of heart - salt-of-the-earth people. We had a great time and we just want to say thank you very much for the hospitality.
