If you love silence and the beauty and sounds of farm life, this is the place for you with hospitable, friendly people.
The surroundings are incredibly beautiful, especially in the flower season. The road there can be challenging, especially after rain. Attention to small things like soap and a small towel in the bathroom will help quite a bit. Stay was pleasant and surroundings particularly beautiful.
Delicious! The perfect place to rest - no TV and no cell phone signal! The nature is indescribably beautiful and the farm brings a peacefulness that is wonderful. The houses are well equipped and very tidy. Esmi and Phillip are very friendly and helpful. We could really stay here permanently.
Esmi and husband Phillip were perfect hosts during our two night stay and we were honoured to spend time on their wonderful farm. It was awesome to have walked with Phillip on one of his "goat check" rounds which was very informative.
If you want tranquility this is the place to visit. Esmi made us feel welcome upon arrival. Although this is a working farm, none of the activities were disruptive. The cottage is comfortably small with everything you need at hand. Love the antiques in the decor. Kasper the big dog is also very friendly. Will definitely go there again if it's on our route. Will want to stay in the Flower House next time.
We had a great stay and our daughter of 2 years old loved all of the farm animals! It's just a shame that we could only stay one night, but we were on our way to the Kgalagadi. I would definitely recommend them for those travelling through Namakwaland!
Quiet location on a working farm. Esmi pointed out nice places on the farm that I could explore myself. Beautiful paths where it's just you and nature.
A place to stay that I would recommend anytime! If you want fresh air, rest for your soul and the vastness that only a farm can offer you, Grootvalleij is your destination. Our hostess was friendly and helpful and Kasper (a Golden Retriever) our personal bodyguard and tour guide on our walk to the flower field. And I have never seen the stars like there!
Would really recommend this place to someone looking for peace of mind and body. Would also be perfect for groups of friends who want to stretch out here and visit other beautiful places and use it as a base point. A bit far to Port Nolloth but we took the opportunity to explore that part of the world. Will do it again! Reception by the owners of the farm, Mari and Corrie was warm - very hospitable people. Had a great time with Gus, our new four-legged friend. Just as friendly as his people. Thank you very much!
Lovely, interesting cottage in a beautiful setting. Quiet and absolutely safe.
Lovely and quiet. Not luxurious, but well equipped and adequate. Host friendly and helpful. Came with your own friendly live in dog.
It was a nice holiday on the farm in the stone house and was very peaceful. Will go again!
Easy access to the Skilpad Nature Reserve. You can walk around on the farm where there are a lot of flowers in the field. Beautiful flowers between the bushes. The owners are friendly and made us feel quite at home. All the flower routes are nearby.
The farm is located near Skilpad (Namakwa Park) with its own entrance to the park just 5 km away. The stone house itself is fairytale beautiful, as are the surroundings!
Had a great time. The cottages are neatly clean and very nicely and comfortably furnished. The quiet peaceful farm life is healing for the soul.
We drove over the Wildeperdehoek pass to Grootvalleij. It's a beautiful setting, despite the fact that there were no flowers this year. Esmi's warm welcome made us feel extra at home. Thanks also for the tip to enjoy a "sundowner" on the turn-off road in the pass - it was very special!. The Kliphuisie and the Stoephuisie were spotlessly clean, with everything we could possibly need, with Esmi's artistic hand visible everywhere! The view is beautiful! Here the nights are so dark (yet so safe) that it feels like you can rearrange the stars a bit. Die Kliphuisie and Die Stoephuisie definitely ended up on our "do-again list". We'll see you again soon!
A nice stay, all in one, comfortable stay house. Esti received us warmly and made recommendations for our trip. Would definitely like to stay there again and happily recommend it as a choice for accommodation.
See stars.
Get a bit of rest year after the long day on the road. Allow the farm atmosphere, the dorper sheep and the quiver trees transform your mind. The little 11 km gravel road is nothing compared to the roads in the Karoo and Namibia. Kliphuisie provides very very neat accommodation and the farm folks are kind and friendly.
If it was my unit, I would make some alterations and do some maintenance (i.e. window frames). The gravel road from the main road to the farm is not very good, unless you have a higher car than a Polo. But the young owners are friendly and I am sure, they will use the comments to improve the unit.
If you love the farm life, this is the ideal place to visit. We were farmers ourselves and it was so nice to be so close to the animals. Thank you.
Beautiful farm far from the main road.
The hostess and her parents stole our hearts with their warm, true hospitality. The Kliphuisie was a refreshment after a long trip from Hondeklipbaai. It is an oasis where you can recharge your batteries. We really enjoyed our stay.
Unique little place, warm atmosphere and very friendly host and family!
What a lovely little house. Very comfortable. Lovely surroundings. Love the walk along the wheat fields.
A gem! Great for a stopover as well as base point for exploring the surrounds.
The owners are hospitable and very helpful. The stone house is very well furnished, with "quirky design elements". We enjoyed it very much, we will definitely rest there again.
The place was very neat and well maintained and contained everything that is needed for self-catering. The only "problem" is that the bath and toilet facilities were too open. There should be better shielding. The environment and general reception and friendly care was great. People really made an effort to make you feel at home. Had a great chat with Corrie and Phillip. Unfortunately we could only get 2 nights stay. Would have liked more. Could have a nice walk outside on the farm and enjoy the surroundings. The further surroundings such as the Namakwa National Park and Hondeklip Bay are also within easy reach. The surroundings are also really worth seeing. Passes, mountains, valleys and plains are truly something for the eyes. If I travel there again I will want to stay here again, only longer. The unit is only intended for 2 people, but at the last our daughter decided to come along and a place to sleep was arranged for her in a hurry. At pay time, Esmi Crous didn't want to know anything about me "coughing" extra. That's not how it goes here in Pretoria.
A lovely and unforgettable experience while staying in this artfully furnished stone house. Nothing could beat having a braai under the stars on the porch. It's dead quiet, pitch dark and we slept like babies. Esmi is a very friendly and helpful hostess that immediately makes you feel at home. Will stay with them again any time!
Simplicity, comfort, natural beauty and the best pillows yet for a self-catering unit. We had a great barbecue, cycled and jogged. Take your own firewood, there may not be for sale. Esmi is a good hostess and made sure we had everything we needed without intruding on our privacy.
We loved our stay at Kliphuisie. The most outstanding feature was the hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble and they offered excellent advice on where to see flowers. Flowers on the farm were as good as the Namaqualand Park. We did not really need to go anywhere else. There were touches of creativity in all the décor with no sacrifice to comfort. Very comfortable bed with lovely linen. We will definitely be back for a longer stay.
Peaceful, comfortable, all basic needs attended to. Would have loved to stay longer. Definitely will come again.
Everything you need, clean and tidy. Hostess very friendly and helpful. Very, very nice place and would love to go again next year.
It's a very well-furnished, neat self-catering cottage that is not only practical but also very beautiful. I can recommend it to everyone. We saw the most beautiful flowers here on the farm.
See the ratings.
It was delicious. Would recommend it.
It was very nice and relaxing. Great cycling and grilled meat. All I can say that bothered me was the cutlery with the plastic handles, and it would be nice to have new candles in the holders for use. But the place is actually REALLY cute and very modern!
The stay was very comfortable and pleasant.
We were a little late but at least we could see our beautiful surroundings the next morning. The cottage is beautiful and it would be nice to be able to stay there for a few days when it's flower time. However, the water pressure is not that nice and the taps' strainers only need to be cleaned regularly, would recommend that they just put on a normal shower head that can also be cleaned regularly, despite that I would recommend the milk tree corner stone house!
This is now the cutest house to stay in. Amenities include everything you could need. The cottage does not offer much privacy as it is by the farmhouse and outbuildings, but there were no problems for us.
Lovely stay right in our kraal! Everything one needs, beautiful people and surroundings and tranquility. A very special place!
Very friendly reception and comfortable facilities.
We had a nice stay here. The only real criticism is that the shower's hot water was a bit lackluster (not strong, but hot).
We really enjoyed it - would definitely recommend it.
What a beautiful little treasure, hidden away from the busy N7. Quirky, funny decor will keep you amused. The cottage is well equipped for self-catering, but the freezer has some prepared meals from chef Esmi, including meat for braaiing, should you feel lazy or have not taken food. It is quiet on the farm, the flowers were stunning and our host Esmi was friendly and easy to chat with, as was the rest of the family. Do treat yourself if you're either en route to Namibia, or in the area for the flower season.
Many thanks for the load of wood that was available to us. The stars were an experience, as was the beauty of the flowers. Feel free to visit, because your soul can rest here too!
See the stars below.
This cottage is fully equipped and decorated in a tasteful blend of old and modern furnishing and appliances. If being right in the midst of a working farm is not an issue for you, then this is a great base from which to explore the Namaqua National Park and other attractions which are in fairly close proximity. The warm welcome and the personalized care from a gracious owner and her husband makes this establishment one we will definitely keep in mind for future reference.
