We stayed in the Farm House. The location is ideal if you want to explore the area and we couldn't fault the accommodation at all. We were kindly received by Mark and the dogs. Mark always made sure that nothing was missing. We can definitely recommend Mont Plaisir, even for an extended stay.
Mont Plaisir is really a delight, surrounded by beautiful mountains and incredible sunsets. The evenings are only cool in the month of June, but the large living room with lovely warm fireplace fires and the company of friends makes you not want to go to bed. But the electric blankets on the beds finally call you for a lovely, cuddly sleep.
The guest house is basically located on a farm, so you drive a single track path to the house. It's a bit difficult if you have a car that is not built for a high ground clearance, but if you drive slowly it's okay. The facilities are perfect, the view is beautiful, Mark is very friendly, Genghis just wants to play. My wife and I had such a great time relaxing, away from the city noise, we would definitely recommend it.
The stay was fantastic, with beautiful views and stunning scenery. The only drawback we encountered was the lack of nearby neighbours. It would have been preferable to have a couple of people around, considering ours was the only cottage with two more uphill in the entire 200 hectares. Despite this, our stay was enjoyable. However, it became a bit concerning at night when we realized we were alone in a very dark environment, especially if you happen to be there alone.

We had a fabulous time over the Cherry Festival weekend at this gem of a spot. Lots to do and experience. Close to all the necessary amenities and restaurants. Easy to get to Clarens, Ficksburg and Fouriesburg. Would definitely recommend Mont Plaisir Guest Farm to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.

We stayed in the field cottage which was clean and cosy. Will definitely recommend it to those who are looking for an escape from busy city life. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating.
The Chalet was bigger than we expected, and was really well equipped. Everything one needs for a self-catering unit! The beds were comfortable, the bedding fresh and warm, and the electric blankets with each bed were a bonus that we were very grateful for! The kitchen was perfect for self catering, we made use of the gas stove, the microwave and the kettle which all worked very well. There is more than enough crockery and kitchenware for a family of 4. We could easily cook and barbecue. Our teenager slept on the sofa bed in the living room, and was comfortable and warm there. We will easily visit again. Mark was an excellent host.
Beautiful farm. Quiet and serene. Fresh air is what we needed along with the scenery in the neighboring areas. The farm itself was neat and tidy and perfect for a family. Mark and Anna were perfect hosts. Will definitely go back again.
The cottage we stayed in was about 200 m from the reception, very private, very beautiful and very well appointed. I would recommend this cottage to anyone.
Do not buy wood in town. So hard it can't cut or burn. It was nice, just cool in the evenings inside.

Extremely neat and clean. Host very friendly and helpful. We stayed in Fouriesburg, because we could not find accommodation in Clarens. Fouriesburg is a cute little town close to Clarens. Our chalet was clean and tidy. There were basic snacks such as coffee sugar etc. And to our rescue salt too, since we forgot ours! Host Mark was thoughtful and friendly.

Thank you very much for the beautiful house (Field Cottage) where we could stay. The house is very neat, luxurious and spacious, ideal for two or a maximum of 4 people (Double bed in bedroom and sofa in living room). Everything we needed in the kitchen was there and the fireplace created a lovely atmosphere. There is a light by the built in braai outside, which worked handy. There was also a security guard who made regular rounds to ensure that everything was safe. It is 40 km from Clarens and it only takes half an hour to drive the beautiful route. I would recommend the "Field Cottage" anytime.

The farm is very beautiful and easy to find with the instructions provided. It is very quiet and we slept well at night. However, there were some problems. There was a misunderstanding about the date we would arrive, so the fridge and geyser were not on and because there was load shedding on the same night, it was a problem to keep things cold. The owners don't really allow for something like load shedding. We had to ask for candles and only got 2 which burned out on the first night. I know that load shedding is not the owners fault, but if they know it's coming, I don't think it should be the guests' responsibility alone to plan for it. There weren't quite enough knives either. We had to wash teaspoons all the time.

Very neat and clean. Didn't lack anything, and there were plenty of warm blankets. Very peaceful atmosphere. Maybe pay attention to the shower door of The Field Cottage, although I don't have a complaint about the shower door, there is a chance that a guest could break it out of ignorance, because it doesn't close properly, there is water spilling on the floor. Thank you very much for the clean facilities, hospitality, and for all the communication. It had been delicious.

Had a very nice break with my wife, although we couldn't really barbecue on Friday or Saturday due to the heavy rain, but I understand it was beyond the owner's control. Not much to do in the area unless you drive to Clarence. All in all just a nice getaway weekend with the silence of the mountains around you.
The owners were not at the farm to welcome us. We were welcomed by one of their employees. Arina was friendly and very helpful. The farm road is in bad condition and not made for a small car. I was careful not to damage my new tires. The two bull terriers were an absolute treat. They warmly welcomed us and entertained us. My friend had never ridden a horse and then they saddled up the smallest mule I had ever seen. The next afternoon at least a decent big riding horse was saddled for her and she enjoyed it immensely. Mont Plaisir is not suitable for stays longer than 3 to 4 days. There is no TV or other entertainment. Luckily we took reading books with us.
The farm is located just outside Fouriesburg, but it feels like you are miles away from any town. 360º view of mountains, hills and beautiful Eastern Free State nature. Each house has a separate braai and it sometimes feels like you are alone on the farm. The house is tidy and equipped with everything you need. Hospitality of the owners is wonderful.
Didn't know about R300 breakage fee. No credit card facility. Upon departure inspection of unit was done with us. The staff would do it later and then R300 would be EFT back, if owners hadn't taken 10 min, now they can claim there was a mistake. Left unit perfect and tidy. Cats were on my vehicle all night and dogs tried to get to them. Front part of my vehicle full of "permanent" scratches. Better protection for vehicles should be considered.
It was extremely unfortunate that we were behind the big house and had no view.
This is truly a place to escape from the city. It is peaceful, well maintained and value for money. The air is clean and when you leave here, your batteries are full again. I would recommend it anytime.

Many thanks to Mark and Anne Marie, they went the extra mile for our family and our friends' families. Accommodation is great. Horses are very well cared for, our daughter had a lovely horse ride. Signboard on gate for easy finding of Mont Plaisir, the GPS coordinates on the web take one on the wrong path next door.
We had a wonderful stay. Annamarie and Mark were very friendly and hospitable. We would definitely recommend it. Also saw some special species of birds.
The so-called "Field Cottage" is delightfully remote, private and peaceful. The bathroom between the kitchen and bedroom is quite unorthodox but does not detract from the accommodation. What a pleasure to watch the horses in the camp in front of the house in the morning, and tame! Annemarie received us warmly and options regarding shared meals in Fouriesburg and Clarens with us.
From before the arrival I was able to get in touch with Mark and Annemarie, with the necessary arrangements they helped a lot and with my other inquiries they were very helpful. On the farm itself we were warmly welcomed and already furnished, everything was already as we requested. The privacy and quiet of the surroundings helped a lot to thoroughly enjoy the break away from the big city. Although it is a working farm there were no disturbances to our stay. On the farm itself, the children walked part of the walking route as well as helping with the horses where the staff were very helpful and friendly. Clarens is a 40km drive from there which makes it worth breaking away for the afternoon. I will definitely go there again.

Mark and Anna Marie had been extremely courteous and friendly hosts. The Field Cottage is cosy, tidy, private and pet friendly. The sunsets and bright stars were a welcome experience of city life, as were the horses that came to graze in front of the cottage every day.
The cottage was well equipped for self-catering, clean and comfortable. The view is beautiful and it is peaceful and quiet on the farm. Lovely scenic, easy drive to Clarens and Golden Gate for day trips - great to go 'home' too Fouriesburg away from the tourists!

The place could be one of the best, but is neglected. Grass probably mowed 5 years ago. Thorny cacti in front of the chalet and other quiet dangerous with long thorns. I wouldn't take children along. Directions very poor, you don't know where reception is and there are no directions on the gate which is quiet confusing.

Can really recommend. The owners are nice, the rondavel well equipped, the location of the place is close to the Lesotho border for visits to Afriski, e.g. also near Clarens and Golden Gate. Fouriesburg is apparently also a good option for the Kersiefees later in the year. Value for money, fireplace against the cold.

We spent the night in the Rondawel and everything was beautiful, clean and tidy. The tranquility, especially at sunrise and sunset was enough to make us totally relax and switch off. However, it would have helped to make the stay even more pleasant if there had been a fan and if the promised bag of wood had been in its place. Horse riding was also advertised, but as the owners were not there, there were no rides to go on. Been quite a disappointment. However, the rest of our stay was lovely!
We stayed in "the chalet", which was right next to the main house. The cottage itself's decor was very old-fashioned and here and there you need your own cutlery and some extra toilet rolls and black bags. There was not much information presented about walking routes, things to do on the farm etc. We had to find our way on the farm ourselves. Otherwise, the farm itself is very beautiful and we enjoyed the weekend peacefully.
The place is located next to a main road and only 1.5 km from a squatter camp. One could hear the music of the squatter camp all night.

The best value for money I have had in a long time and my brother in law also commended me for finding this place to stay at while attending a family wedding elsewhere in the vicinity. The owners are like friends.
A wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Open spaces with clean air and swaying grassy plains where you enjoy walking. Horse stables close to the house for a pleasant farm atmosphere. The house is large and spacious with quality beds. Mark was a pleasant host. If we go in that direction again, we will stay there again.

We were very pleased when we saw that the accommodation is more beautiful than the pictures on the internet show! It is very comfortable and offers everything needed. There are barbecue facilities and the scenery is some of the best. There are also nice places to eat and visit in Fouriesburg and Clarens which are only a short drive away. I think for this money the chalet could at least have been serviced (costs extra). But we had a great time and will definitely go again!

Unfortunately there is no cleaning service and there are some small things that could be renovated. (The roof leaked a bit when it started raining and the doors are a bit tight.) Good break from the day-to-day hustle and bustle.
We had a wonderful and relaxing time staying at Mont Plaisir farm. The view is incredible and changes every few minutes. All the facilities are well thought out and in good condition. I will recommend Mont Plaisir to everybody.

Mont Plaisir is clean and tidy. There is a beautiful view of the Eastern Free State from Fiksburg on the left to past Bethlehem on the right. Clarence is near. The Katsedam in Lesotho is accessible, but the simplest is to make it a full day trip. There is also a lot to do on Mont Plaisir, including horse riding. The host and hostess are competent and provide a very good service with their staff.
"Farmhouse" is very spacious for a large group. The "Rondawel" is very cute, but a bit cramped for more than 2 people. "The Chalet" is comfortable for 4 people.

Very good accommodation - nice farm atmosphere. The city teenagers enjoyed every moment - lots of space and horse riding. Beautiful surroundings to explore. The host was very helpful, hospitable and friendly. This is the best equipped kitchen in a farmhouse ever - spacious bedrooms and good bathrooms. Fireplace with wood and nice braai area. Feel free to try it for something else.
