The 425 hectares of malaria-free bush terrain, known as Knopfontein Farm, was acquired by new owner Walter in 2001 and has since been renovated into a game lodge.
The farm derives its name from Sesotho word for Blesbuck, the first buck delivered to the farm, and the three natural springs with crystal clear water referred to in Sesotho, hence the name Mothopo.
There are 2 self-catering lodges that can sleep up to 14 guests. The units have air-conditioned rooms with en-suite bathrooms, Jacuzzi baths, except for the Blesbok Lodge. Linen is also provided. The lodge has a dining area, however, meals are not catered for unless for special occasions and by arrangement with management.
Hunting is one of the most popular activities at Mothopo, though there are many other activities, including bird watching, walking trails or just relaxing around the fireside with an African drumbeat.

2 guests' feedbackWhat a lodge! A place where you can just sit back, relax and have a great time. Game drive: Not a huge variety of game, but we concentrated on the breeding program. Walter's stories about the breeding program and how it works were very informative. His enthusiasm and dedication is something to experience. The accommodation is luxurious and we were given a lot of attention without being in the way. They made an extra effort with our daughter who is mentally disabled, especially the horses she was able to visit and horse combing was a highlight for her! We were only there for 3 days, but when we left it felt like we were saying goodbye to family. Thank you Walter, Rene, Reuben and Kiandra, and of course your dog staff, Buddy and Chelsea. See you again!
Was nice to be away from all the hustle and bustle. The farm's tranquility is a pleasure, especially the visit around a fire. Felt safe. Beds and bedding - good mattresses and clean bedding. Good value for money.
