137 guests' feedbackPagel House B&B is very good value for money. The guest house has beautiful decor and the hostess is friendly, helpful and very nice. Our room felt like a huge treat with all the amenities including both a bath and shower, outside door to the garden area, and a spacious room.
The Barn was an excellent option as we were travelling with teenagers. Spacious and private.
Very comfortable, clean, the only negative thing was the bathroom facility in our room, not completely private as it was semi open plan. Other than that, no complaints. We were able to get a packed breakfast on request for the following morning. Friendly and accommodating hostess.
Had a friendly, serviceable, warm and hospitable reception and accommodation.
Good sleep, great breakfast!
Our hostess went out of her way to arrange an early breakfast for us because we had a deadline to meet 400km away! Thank you and your staff for all the assistance!
See stars.
Beautiful Victorian home with matching furniture and antiques. Hostess friendly.
What a surprise! Victorian elegance in the middle of a little (dorpie) between somewhere and nowhere in the Karoo. Lyn welcomed us so warmly and gave us coffee and a chat after our long drive. She has spent a lot of energy and expense on recreating the Victorian feel and one experiences that as soon as one enters the house. Fantastic!
Beautifully restored - felt good!
It was a perfect overnight stop for our family and extremely good value for money! We stayed in the old barn which was spacious and very comfortable. The host was extremely helpful and friendly!
Very friendly hostess, slept well. And a very hearty, tasty breakfast.
Electric blanket only worked on one side of the bed and the fireplace was unusable, which is difficult especially on a cold winter night in the Karoo. There was a wall heater.
Excellent service and welcoming host. Breakfast was exactly to my specifications. I would stay here again.
Nice, very peaceful with a house full of so many valuable antiques, and the wooden floors, and friendly hostess.
Everything you need for an overnight stop on the way to your destination.
Very comfortable and convenient.
Met our needs considering the rate asked.
Friendly and prompt service. Nice breakfast.
Beautiful old house with comfortable overnight accommodation.
Best night's rest in quiet nature! Open plan accommodation for a family of 5. Loadshedding not a problem. Secure parking. Friendly hostess.
We enjoyed the experience of staying in such a historic and characterful house. Lynne, the owner, was welcoming and fully involved in ensuring we were comfortable and taken care of during our overnight stay. We appreciated the delicious home-cooked breakfast and could easily have stayed for another night.
Hospitable. Beautiful old house full of interesting decor and delicious breakfast, will make you stay there again on a next occasion.
From the warm welcome to ending it off with a lovely breakfast. The hospitality from start to finish was superb. We were really made to feel welcome and at home. The decor was just a plus and unique style. I would recommend the accommodation for anyone looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.
Good halfway stop.
Beautiful place in a beautiful Karoo village. Wonderful breakfast with large portions. The aunt is very friendly and helpful. It feels like visiting your grandmother's house again, we were greeted with filter coffee and biscuits.
The historic house with its appropriate interior decorations was a lovely stay. (The breakfast got 5 stars from my teenager!).
Lynne is an incredibly generous hostess and it was truly an old world experience. Aberdeen is a hidden gem (gem). Had a delicious breakfast and I'm really going to tell everyone about Pagel House.
Friendly, welcoming, and helpful host.
Great rest from a long day. House with a lot of history and friendly hostess.
We really enjoyed the visit. Our hostess went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We slept in a very nice room that met all our expectations. The breakfast was delicious.
Very friendly service, fantastic room and very good breakfast. Would definitely recommend it.
Excellent breakfast with sausage, eggs, bacon, yogurt and hot cross buns.
Very nice stay in a large, clean, tidy room and bathroom and friendly staff.
Warm reception from owner, B&B with collection of History. Breakfast is a winner.
Nice clean unit. Had everything I needed for the overnight. Slight confusion, breakfast advertised and spoken about upon arrival. Morning of after oacking up, learned it was fully self catering and no breakfast provided.
To experience a stay in a well-decorated historical venue gives one the opportunity to realize that times gone by have been peaceful.
Very nice old house - lots of history. The electric blanket was certainly welcome in the cold Karoo. Delicious breakfast! Staff very friendly.
Just right to sleep one night.
Had a pleasant time and would be able to recommend the place to others.
Our first visit to the town and its people. Loadshedding presented challenges and thanks to Ursula in town with her pizza oven for dinner. The guest house's warm electric blanket saved us from certain cold, as the fireplaces in the place were out of order. Otherwise slept well.
It was lovely to see the well maintained interior of this house, especially the painted ceilings.
It was very interesting to see the history of the house. The antiques and decor were beautiful.
The rooms are very comfortable, spacious and equipped with everything one could possibly need. The fact that breakfast is included in the overnight rate at Pagel House B&B makes it excellent value for money!
Our visit was wonderful. Our hostess told us the most interesting stories and the garden is full of secrets. Our room was clean and tidy. The children really enjoyed the stacked beds. I would recommend it anytime.
We were warmly received. There is a touch of personal service that goes beyond just good hospitality, which made us feel very welcome.
Pagel House is a beautiful old house with a beautiful garden (where little owls and hammerheads have made their homes). The hostess is friendly and an expert on the history of the house and the town.
Very friendly reception, delicious breakfast.
Hans Fransen noem Pagel House in 'The old buildings of the Cape', 'perhaps the finest' van Aberdeen se pragtige 'Victorian villas'.
If we had been given one of the beautiful interior rooms, my recommendation would definitely have been yes. The outside garden room was not up to the same standard as inside the house. WiFi also did not work and shower gave problems.
Upon our arrival, the owner informed us that she had given the room I had reserved (and paid in full in advance) for our daughters to another guest. The room our daughters stayed in had a toilet in the corner with a curtain in front, and a shower open and exposed in the room. Even family members traveling together need more privacy than that. The toilet did not flush properly, and the shower doors were tied with pieces of cloth. They could use neither. This is not acceptable.
People beautiful and accommodating. Very friendly.
Pagel House is a lovely grand old lady of the housing kind. Many original features still in place and a friendly hostess. I enjoyed feeling the history all around.
The house is an experience as it can almost be seen as a museum with the most incredible, valuable antiques. It was very cold, but luckily this was catered for with electric blankets and lovely warm beds. We spent the night in the Blue room and it was an experience! We had a delicious breakfast and had a lovely chat about all the porcelain and the history of the house and surroundings. The room was clean and tidy and well equipped with everything you need.
This ostrich palace absolutely fascinated us. We slept in the beautiful big blue room. Good linen kept us wonderfully warm. Breakfast was superb and is there ever anything as nice as tea in decent fine china!
My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pagel House. Our room was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed the spic and span modern bathroom. Our breakfast was delicious. We loved the beautiful decor and the original features of this magnificent house. Well worth the visit for the historical factors alone!
Interesting history here in Aberdeen. Good to go off the beaten track and explore new areas.
The house has been beautifully restored. The hostess was very friendly, helpful and hospitable. She let us know in advance that the restaurants in town are not open on Sunday evenings. Breakfast was nutritious and tasty. The room (big blue room) was spacious, neat and clean with all the necessary facilities. Nice spacious and beautiful bathroom. Although the drought has a big effect on the garden, we still spent a few hours there relaxing before going to bed. Beautifully restored.
The mattress in the Big Blue Room could do with renewing.
The main house is beautiful. Our garden flat was private. It could do with a table indoors, in case it rains. Owner is very accommodating. Breakfast exceptional.
Lynne is an exceptional hostess and she makes delicious coffee! For us who had to work until 12:00 it was the perfect stop and rest on the way to George. Arrived there just before sunset, after driving our way through a swarm of locusts! Can really recommend it!
Most beautiful old house with plank floors and high ceilings dates from 1897. The owner and hostess, Lynn, received and treated us like family. Breakfast was top notch. Thank you Lynn and Pagel House staff for an unforgettable experience.
Me, my husband and my Mother spent the night in the green room. There was a double bed and a bunk bed in this room. With all three adults in one room, the "bathroom" offered no privacy. Apart from this little thing, our hostess was very warm and quickly made us feel at home.
We slept well and the breakfast was very nice and tasty. Unfortunately there was no WiFi and the TV only had one channel.
Badly looking for an overnight bed, we arrived at 21:30 and left again at 07:00 the next morning.
Service was good and the place is very pleasant and spacious. Will definitely recommend or use Pagel House again.
Breakfast was delicious with nice big portions. The family room's bathroom is inside the room with little or no privacy. Staying for 1 night is probably acceptable, but for longer periods it can become very uncomfortable. The house and specifically the exterior and garden need attention.
The walls of the house have many interesting photos and reports on them, each telling a story. The ceilings of the rooms were each unique, colorful and beautiful. The breakfast was delicious with the coffee!
Beautiful stately old house that has been so beautifully converted, so much detail. The owner, Lyn, welcomed us with open arms and is boss of the breakfast. For traveling between the north and the Garden Route (or even the Cape further), Aberdeen is a very unexpected nice option for an overnight stay.
A really historic stay in a clean home with excellent service by host Lynn!!!!
Accommodating host, who happily served us tea on our afternoon arrival. We did not need to unpack the whole car as our host offered for us to park in her garage.
Owner was waiting for me at the guest house after I arranged for me to arrive a few minutes after check-in time. Very friendly and very helpful. Had a good night's sleep in the quiet Karoodorp.
Friendly welcome very peaceful place to rest beautiful place.
Friendly reception, quiet and nice.
What a beautifully restored house with lots of character and such a friendly host. Lots of old furniture and other items from a long lost era. We stayed in the Big Blue Room and the décor is lovely and beds very comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful. It is such a pity that there has been years of drought, because I can only see that the garden will be amazing after some rain. Remember to use as little water as possible when you visit. May there be rain very soon.
It was lovely to visit and hear all the stories from the past. House furnished in the time when it was a stately residence. Sleep was uncomfortable, because the mattress and pillows were old and needed to be replaced. Hot water in bathroom was constantly lukewarm. Otherwise an exceptional place.
Perfect location for our trip, friendly service and comfortable large room. Neat and beautiful old house. Lovely breakfast!
Lyn was the perfect hostess! Our car was safe in the garage. We left after a delicious breakfast, but will definitely be staying there again in the future!
Pagel House B&B was a good choice to stay at on the way to George. Lynn is a friendly and helpful hostess. The room was spacious with everything needed, and the breakfast among all the lovely antiques was special. Believe we will stay at Pagel House again in the future.
Aberdeen is a great little town, quiet but interesting, people very friendly and helpful.
Lovely stay in historical home. Luxurious room taking you back in time.
We were kindly received by the hostess and immediately started talking about all the antique pieces in the house. Beautiful history. Goats are chased down the street in front of the house by goat herders in the morning and in the evening and it was an experience for us to witness. Breakfast was delicious and new friends were made around the breakfast table. Parking of vehicles was not so fun because vehicles first had to stand in the street until all the guests were there to determine who should stand in front and who in the back. Garden very neglected - blame is put on drought, but grass and flower beds untended. Hostess was furious because we dared to bathe, but there was a plug for the bath and no indications that you are not allowed to bathe. According to the hostess it wastes too much water and you should shower instead, but my wife and I both bathed in one tub of water. Think shower might have used more water.
True value for money and worth a visit - quite a lot of historic references in this rather historic building. Pity for the drought as the gardens must be a pleasure for visitors to enjoy when lush and full of flowers. Not a long terms stay facility though. Breakfast was great!
Peaceful are. Hospitable owner. An experience of a house from a different era. Included breakfast was surprise.
Very friendly reception, everything was 100%.
Breakfast and hostess were very pleasant. Couldn't take a decent shower because hot water keeps running off (it's a gas geyser). Mattress very hard! Would not recommend more than one night. Stayed in garden apartment.
The guest house was clean and tidy and the hostess was very nice. The breakfast was wonderful and very tasty. However, she got confused with my booking date and only expected me the next day, so the room I specifically booked was rented out to someone else and I had to be happy with an alternative unit. The bed was noisy just turning around what light sleepers like my spouse made restless sleep. The cocks kept on the site made us wake up at 3 o'clock in the morning. The security parking was extremely limited which meant that you had to compare your program with the other tenants, otherwise you would be parked in. The gate that gave access to the vehicle area made use of a lock and was so low that I would not regard it as secure parking.
We had a wonderful stay. Lynn is a very pleasant person and we got along very well from the start. Everything was tidy and everyone went out of their way to make sure everything was right and to taste.
Very good and clean sleeping opportunity! Delicious breakfast and good company!
We had an incredibly nice stay and were spoiled with the most delicious breakfast. It is a beautiful guest house and the owner went to great lengths to park our packed car safely. Will go there again and again.
Pagel House offers excellent accommodation and value for money. We can definitely recommend the Blue Room, which leads to a garden enthusiast's dream. Breakfast was more than adequate and Lyn made a lot of effort for her guests. We will definitely stay at Pagel House again.
This B&B is excellent value in the countryside. Lyn is such a good hostess and is very concerned about your comfort. The Blue room was fantastic and everything was perfect. There is also a nice porch just off the room. The breakfast was served with taste and Pagel B&B fulfilled everything we wanted. We will definitely use Lyn's services again.
It was a really nice house, very good service and the history of the house and the town was fantastic to learn. Definitely a small town that people should visit more.
From the moment my husband and I walked into Pagel House B&B, the aesthetic and ambiance of Pagel House made us relax. The friendly hostess welcomed us with a delicious cup of tea and soon made us feel at home. The blue room, which we booked, opened onto a garden with paths in which we could get lost and blissfully enjoy the silence and singing of birds. The breakfast was exceptional with quinces and red pomegranate seeds as a starter, followed by fried mushrooms, bacon and eggs. Two types of home-made jams completed the picture together with toast and coffee. If you like old world opulence and Victorian ostrich palaces with their high roofs, Pagel House B&B is a must visit!
Hostess very friendly and hospitable. Staff friendly and helpful. Keep the old-fashioned style of the house and furniture.
All that bothered me was that the mattress was too soft. I have a back problem.
Lynne received us warmly and showed us everything. Immediately enjoy delicious coffee in the living room. She recommended us for dinner and made sure the restaurant was open. Confirmed our departure time the next morning and served us a lovely breakfast. Really good value for money.
Everything was 100% and Lyn is a wonderful host. Delicious breakfast. I recommend Pagel House.
Beautiful house with amazing antique furniture.
Would definitely do it again, the accommodation and the hostess met all expectations. The breakfast and company was a winner!
We really enjoyed our stay in the beautifully restored old house, with beautiful antique furniture and other beautiful things from previous years. The hostess immediately made us feel welcome and prepared a nice dinner for us at short notice. Breakfast was also very nice. Pagel Huise was a good choice and I can confidently recommend it.
The accommodation was perfect and the service extremely professional.
What a beautiful unique guest house. With his antique furniture and hammerheads in the garden. The blue room is big and enough space for us as a family of 4.
For over sleep in Aberdeen it was very pleasant. Delicious dinner at Georg restaurant just walking distance. Lyn was very friendly and had a nice chat with her.
The owner is also your information guide.
We were received very kindly and immediately felt at home. The old-fashioned furniture fits beautifully with the old house and the room and bathroom were very comfortably furnished. Enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Pagel House served as a good resting place between the Southern Cape and Bloemfontein. The place is neat and safe, and breakfast was delicious. Reception and help were cordial.
Very nice stay. Very good service and good breakfast! I would definitely recommend a meal at Georg Restaurant.
Accommodation met requirement and was as advertised.
Just missed a shower in our room.
It was more than just accommodation! It was a lovely experience of such a look back at old lost times. Clean, tidy, with treats and surprises around every corner. In addition, the hostess and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The dinner was delicious and so was the breakfast. Would love to go back anytime and also encourage others to stay there. So sorry our stay was only for one night.
Safe, quiet surroundings. Neat guesthouse and friendly hostess.
The host was so friendly and helpful. She prepared delicious dinner and good breakfast. Beautiful old house with an interesting history, tastefully restored and furnished. Great value for money and highly recommended.
We've been through and past Aberdeen many times, but are very happy that we spent a night there to learn about the town.
Beautiful, well looked after historical house with a garden you can't believe is in the Karoo. Friendly hostess and delicious food for dinner and breakfast.
Our overnight stay was, like before, peaceful hospitable and very pleasant. The owner makes sure that all your needs are looked after. Hope to stay there again.
Baie goeie ontvangs en diens.
Time travel at its' best.
Lovely bed, nice reception, can recommend Pagel House.
If I'm ever in the area again I'll stay here. Their meals are excellent.
The Pagel House was comfortable, value for money and a very interesting guesthouse. Lyn Dugmore is very hospitable and can tell you the whole history of the guesthouse and Aberdeen accompanied by the most wonderful photo's. Their pets are so cute and makes one feel at home. The rooms are comfortable, clean and everything one would ask for. Lyn even made calls to the NG Church and Marguerite Beneke (glass artist) to make sure that we can visit. Would love to go to Pagel House again.
As jy van blaffende honde hou wat dwarsdeur die nag blaf, is dit net die plek vir jou. Die matras op dubbelbed moet vervang word, rol heeltyd middel toe. Gawe gasvrou met baie mooi porseleinware.
Thank you for a wonderful glimpse of days gone by. Wonderful hostess and stay there.
We are kindly received and have good references regarding found places to eat and places of interest from our hostess.
The hostess, the architect, the conversations about nature and the Karoo and the delicious breakfast, everything contributed to a wonderful, memorable visit to Pagel House.
Wonderlike ervaring om die vrede te beleef.
What a lovely experience. We really enjoyed our stay at this exceptional house with the exceptional hostess. It was like visiting an old friend. The breakfast was a feast and far too cheap. Thank you Lynn for a nice visit.
There was really a lot of effort and the breakfast was delicious!
Hammerhead brooding in garden of Pagel House is a nice attraction.
Lyn is an excellent hostess, who offered us tasty dinner with fascinating stories. The house is very interesting and it's great to see how much of the old Victorian decor has been preserved, and how much of the history and lifestyle has been restored... Almost like a place lost in time, with all the modern facilities. Definitely a place to visit and enjoy!
Truly a pleasant experience!
Pagel House is a delight. The place needs a little maintenance, but the hospitality makes up for it in buckets!
Nice homely feel. A special atmosphere in a house that has all the items to take you back to an old world. Great service from good staff.
Travelers can confidently make use of Pagel House B&B. The service and the gardens are top notch.
We were warmly received. The food was of the highest quality and extremely tasty. The rooms were neat, clean and well furnished. The manager and staff were friendly and made you feel like you were part of their family so well they looked after us. It was nice to stay there. Relaxed atmosphere. We definitely recommend them.
A fantastic experience of good accommodation, company and food.
Lyn made sure everything we expected happened and more. We even had lock-up garages and didn't have to pack everything up for the night's stay. The garden is spacious and very well maintained and it was a real oasis for us after a very hot day on the road. Everything went as we expected although elements in the room we had sometimes appeared a little tired. However, this did not detract from our stay. For the price it is real value for money.
