The camp offers various types of accommodation immersed in a tropical garden under large trees and flowering gardens that attract a great variety of birds and smaller antelope. All the units at Pumusa Bush Camp are en suite and are decorated in a rustic Mozambican-style, with wooden interior and newly installed mosquito nets and ceiling fans. We also have 2 self-catering units for those who come heavily packed and prefer to cook for themselves.
There is a large lagoon-style pool framed by palm shrubs adjacent to our popular bar that boasts a large TV showing your favourite sports matches live. There is an outside dining area where breakfast and dinners are served daily. Our bar leads onto an open Boma which has a large communal fire-pit, ideal to unwind and relax after an eventful day where cold beers can be enjoyed with unspoilt views of our African night skies.
Pumusa offers a competitive dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Dinners are scrumptious and are served from 19:00 while breakfasts are served from 06:30 daily. If you want to get an early start into one of our various nearby parks in the area, a packed breakfast can be provided.
Pumusa is a quiet and restful camp, far away from big city lights. With a backdrop of a crackling fire, hyenas whooping in the distance and our resident bushbabies’ cry, clear views of our Milky Way and the Southern Hemisphere constellations, an unforgettable warm and tranquil atmosphere reigns.

10 guests' feedbackShort drives to interesting nearby places. Excellent meals at Hluhluwe River Lodge next door.
As self-catering accommodation, it is important to provide a fridge. There is a unit in the self-catering shared kitchen but that is a freezer. We did raise an issue with management that would need to be addressed as well. Some seating outside the units directly would be a great addition. The cleaning staff were wonderful and helpful but for the size of the establishment, they are a little understaffed.
Very nice, peaceful and the pool was great to cool off. Saw many animals and birds. WiFi was not available in the tondawels, and the bar only had 4 drinks. The place needs a good renovation.
Wonderful welcome from Andre the manager. As we had travelled from flood-ravaged KZN made our party of five toasted sandwiches even though they only serve breakfast. The bar was well stocked and the pool and lounger were clean and well maintained. Apart from the torrential rain, we had a blast.
Andre, the manager and the team are helpful where they can be. Unfortunately, there are no coffee stations in the rooms. The self-catering room has a kettle and 2 plate stovetop with a toaster. Our room also did not have mosquito nets, which is advertised. There are nice walks you can do on the property and they have a variety of deer and birdlife that you can see during your stay. Was overall a good holiday, I think they just need to iron out a few days to day things.
It was truly a wonderful place to stay for the week and we would love to go back. Andre and Sikhele are great hosts and really bent over backwards to help us with what we needed. And the pool ─ nice man, nice!
Nice and quiet in the bush.
Place is neglected in general, Madela hut definitely needs renovation, blinds of the cheapest quality and tattered, place definitely needs new paint, wooden door at bathroom eaten by termites or ants, steps to go out to braai area consist of cement blocks, definitely looks not nice, grill was not cleaned, no two-point plugs for room lights, knives and forks were dirty and not complete, kitchen tools could be more complete, e.g. no can opener, no provision for chairs to sit around the barbecue.
On arrival we entered a dirty unit that was not cleaned after the previous visitors left. Fridge was dirty inside and glasses full of dust. I had to go and buy my own cleaning stuff to disinfect and clean the house. Shower glass was dirty and floor full of sand. This unit did not comply to any COVID-19 regulations. We only had room service come in about 3 times the whole 8 days. The shower doors kept falling apart. Bathroom and living room /kitchen lights did not work. Spiderwebs everywhere. Jacob however was very nice and made the stay a bit beter. There's also no wifi in the room as mentioned in the ad and one of the pictures with a beautiful mountain view picnic is false advertisement. Overall 2/5 for me.
They don't even have a kettle in rooms, they have a part self-catering kitchen with nothing in it, the free WiFi is only for WhatsApps, you can't Google anything else. And above all, there is absolutely no signal in the place. Was very weak. No place to eat at the lodge itself.
