Amazing weekend away from our busy lives and technology. The chalet was perfect.
We had a great time relaxing. The chalet had everything we needed for a break from the city. It's a joy to wake up to the chorus of Bushveld ospreys. In the sunset we could watch the fish as they jump for dinner. By dark the barbecue fire was crackling and fireflies entertained us. The privilege of using the walking route allowed us to share in the beautiful scenery of forests, waterfalls and swimming pools.
Very nice stay, feels like you are deep in the woods! Sharyn even brought us a heater beforehand for the unexpected cold front, very thoughtful!
Rhenosterpoort is rest for the soul! Enjoyed the silence so much. Everything you need is available in the chalet. We saw many beautiful birds and big fish in the pond. They are just lazy to bite! If you are looking for a place for peace and quiet, this is the place for you! We did well!
A hidden gem, in the little known Waterberg Mountain Range at Rankin's Pass. The view is of the dam and behind that the mountains. The stone chalet is cosy, private, with all the amenities you might need in a remote guest chalet (electricity, with some rechargeable lighting provision for blackouts, also a gas cooker, braai, and fire pit). Lapa with picnic tables. We hiked to the waterfalls and walked alongside the stream. We tried our hand at fishing and played guitar at the fire pit.
We had a great stay in the Stone Chalet. The silence was exactly what we needed. The hiking trail is also very beautiful, you just have to pay attention to the painted footprints.
Quiet place. No signal, but then you rest well. Sorry reeds take over dam and shower water didn't run out.
The tranquility and birds make it worth it. The mattress was done and I slept very uncomfortably.
The scenery is incredible. The environment is peaceful and quiet. The cell phone is silent. The accommodation is neat and comfortable. I suspect the host already has a good number of guests who have visited him/her more than once.
What a nice getaway, the owner was friendly and accommodating. Beautiful views of the mountain and a stunning walking trail that leads to a waterfall. Definitely a place to recommend for a relaxing break.
Very private and safe! Visit here only if you want to completely withdraw from the city buzz, and you love the bushveld! Here are no people (other than the owners), no traffic, no cellphone reception (only at the main house), no WiFi (only at the main house), no TV! Take everything you need, the closest shop is 25 km on a gravel road. Free access to 2 great bushveld hiking routes (1 day each - quite challenging), with beautiful nature, mountain views, and a waterfall (with a beautiful, natural swimming pool).
Our spot was beautiful with the view of a dam in front of us and wildlife grazing in the field. The little frogs were my favourite, I love them so much. Service was great, was there at all times if I wanted to know something. Thanks for a nice visit, didn't want to go back home.
Perfect weekend getaway.
The pond is 90% overgrown with aquatic plants and grass, so can't really fish. Electric fencing around the site does not work, and the watering hole and hiking trails are on another property. The toaster and kettle work but look awful. There are no fans, luckily we brought our own. The shower's water builds up when you shower (there is a plunger in the shower!).
Most of the feedback I read about Rhenosterpoort was so good but that was not our impression of the place. Furniture, mattress and linen are old and shabby, there were many cobweb nests on the thatched roof inside the cottage as well as cobweb threads hanging from lights. Shower's water outlet is very slow so it feels very creepy to stand in pooling water especially if there is mildew in the corners and slots of the shower. Under furniture very dusty (I always check to make sure I haven't forgotten things that might have accidentally rolled in there). General impression was that it was dirty. Curtains dusty and dirty, creepy to the touch. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the place, but the facilities - not so much.
We wanted to get away from the city's noise and just spend some quiet time in nature. We got so much more than we expected! The surroundings are beautiful and the stone house is nicely and comfortably equipped. In the morning and evening we saw zebras, nyalas, etc. seen across the pond drinking water. The hiking trails are beautiful and the waterfall swimming hole was refreshing. We saw a lot of other wildlife as we continued along the dirt road. The road was slightly washed out after the rain, but immediately scraped after. Luckily we knew to drive a van and were forewarned. Sharyn received us kindly and was very hospitable. Will go back for sure.
Fantastic - will definitely go back again.
Rhenosterpoort is ideal if you want to get away from the city's noise. Very friendly reception and it was ensured that our stay went smoothly. Particular natural beauty and beautiful hiking trails. Accurate directions to reach our destination came in handy.
Neat, well-equipped chalet with a beautiful view of the mountain and over the water.
Roads are shocking for an ordinary sedan car. Please tell all future customers that they need a 4x4 to get to and from the farm. We had a cv joint break on our Toyota Corolla and we got stuck in very deep sand and had to ask for help to be towed out. 2 engine mountings on our car also broke. Also no cellphone reception in the area. We had to rely on some local farmers for assistance.
Most beautiful nature clean, friendly welcome. Als was perfect. Beautiful game. Had a nice walk/bike ride and drove around. Best getaway ever! Great!
Very nice experience.
The Stone cottage is located opposite the main farm but is well equipped and has a beautiful view. Really very nice please. There is also wood for sale from the owners who are very helpful!
Too bad they don't inform you about the 40 km dirt road which is not very good and that there is no mobile phone reception. Please get the directions of the owner before you drive, because the entrance to the place is difficult. We couldn't let the owner know that we didn't have power for the whole evening.
We were received very warmly with our arrival. Beautiful scenery. Delightful breakaway if you want to get away from the busy city and just become one with nature.
For the price you pay, the chalet needs some renovation work. Guests may also need to be informed that the last bit of dirt road is not really suitable for a small, flat car. There may also be better indications about where exactly reception is. We had a great time around a big fire, and often saw wildlife on the other side of the pond. We will definitely go there again!
Beautiful scenery. Quiet and beautiful walking trails.
Beautiful scenery, wildlife and bird life. Very friendly and hospitable reception. Lovely hiking trails.
We had a wonderful family weekend. By far one of the most beautiful hiking trials in SA!
If you are looking for peace and quiet, you will find it here. We really enjoyed our stay despite our vehicle breaking down. Sharyn helped us a lot to get everything sorted out. Here you can just sit back and enjoy nature.
After a long dusty road, you are greeted with warm country hospitality. The stone chalet provides all the basic necessities. Sharyn overlooked NOTHING. Beds are comfortable and clean, there is a neat bathroom and the kitchenette has a cooking unit with a stove, fridge/freezer, necessary cutlery and cooking utensils. The low grass roof over the porch offers privacy and a cool place to hang out. The view of the Waterberge, the beautiful pond with its reeds, lilies and bird life will take your breath away. In the evening, the fireflies enchant you. At dawn and dusk, a variety of buck species come to greet you. It is an absolute must that you explore one of the hiking trails, take some time and marvel at the unique flora and fauna. This is a real Shangri-La.
Wonderfully peaceful and quiet with lots of birds. Beautiful hiking trails!
Customer service is great, very considerate. Definitely recommend it.

It was exactly the weekend we were looking for.
Really clean and relaxed place. Will definitely return here, one day soon.
Thank you very much, enjoyed it very much.
The only thing I would change would be adding a double bed to the stone chalet, otherwise, fantastic!!
Will be seeing us again soon, thank you for everything.
Very pleasant stay, just a bit far though on dirt roads. Very nice host and hostess. Beautiful area of South Africa.
Friendly reception. Comfortable, neat, peaceful, in beautiful surroundings. Hope to do it again soon.
On arrival at the farm, the reception we got was so personal.Sharyn and Anton met us at our vehicle. We were taken to the Chalets by Anton and shown around. The place is so neat, clean and well cared for. We were told about what animals we could expect to see, what fish could be caught in the dam. The chalet has everything you need, the views are fantastic. The fishing is excellent and to top it all, we got to hear leopard. We enjoy the outdoors, have been to many places, but have never experienced such a peacefull and relaxing place. We sat for hours on the deck, watching the Impala grazing, the Blesbok walking past the chalet on their way to drink and the fish swirling in the dam. We will definately be regular visitors,
