Desmond, the manager, is very nice and helpful. You cannot drive around the farm, but it is very nice to go for a walk and there is beautiful wildlife. The farm is a 10 minute drive from Ladysmith. If you are looking for silence and in the Karoo, this is a good place to spend the night.
The terrain and landscape are stunning, the place was spotlessly clean, and the crew are super efficient and helpful. But, be aware there is no easy water access to cool off. The beautiful dam shown on the website is not near the cottage, nor is the access to the river pools easy. It involves driving and then walking through prickly plants. The cottage itself is quite cute, but the stoop is facing water tanks, fences, and building rubble. Essentially, the veranda is facing the wrong way. On the other side of the house, there is a breathtaking view. This cottage could easily achieve 5 stars if there were seating on the other side of the house, a walkway to the river, a few plants, and somewhere to lounge around outside. Inside the cottage, everything works, including hot water, etc., and there is the most amazing stove in the kitchen. The fridge is not sufficient for more than two people, never mind six. We booked for three nights, but left after two.
Warm welcome and comfortable home. The swimming pool is unfortunately at the owner's house which is about 1.5 km away. The shower's hot water is not constant and due to an open shower everything gets wet and there was no bath mat to use. No grill stand and braai pan were available and unfortunately there were also no fans for if the heat bothered you a bit. However, the peace and quiet and warmth and helpfulness of the farm manager and his wife made up for the slight inconvenience.
