The farmhouse is completely off-the-grid and electricity is supplied by solar power for lights and necessary appliances. The stove and geyser are gas, and the water is supplied by river water and borehole water.
The farmhouse can accommodate up to 8 guests and contains 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The main bedroom is en-suite with bath and shower. The second bedroom contains a double bed, and the third bedroom contains 2 single beds. These 2 bedrooms share a bathroom with shower. The fourth bedroom has an outside entrance and contains 2 single beds, ideal for teenagers who want to be separate from their parents. There are fans in all the bedrooms.
The kitchen is well-equipped with a gas stove, microwave, fridge-freezer, and a breakfast bar with stools. No oven due to solar power. The dining area contains an 8-seater dining table and chairs. The lounge contains comfortable seating, a fireplace, and a flat-screen TV with a full selection of DStv channels. The living area has stacker doors opening to a covered patio with outdoor furniture, braai facilities, and a swimming pool.
The house has a dam in front, so not advisable for people with children that can't swim.
The road is a dirt road, accessible by normal sedan car but is easier with high clearance vehicles.

23 guests' feedbackWe loved it! Expectations exceeded!
I travel a lot with large breed dogs, that some guests don't approve of. This spot is fantastic! The dam on the doorstep too, could watch my dogs all day if I needed to.
Beautifully built, well-equipped home, set in a picture-perfect location. The location is peaceful and set just far away enough from the neighbours that you can see them in the distance, but cannot be heard. The views of the valley and mountains, perfectly taken in from the extra wide stoep, are lovely, at every time of the day. The beds were comfortable with good quality linen, and views from every room. We'll definitely be back!
Everything was lovely. I would, however, advertise it as a 6 sleeper though, the 4th bedroom does not compare to the other 3 bedrooms and we were 4 couples, so the one couple had a tiny room with single beds that couldn't even be put together. It's more of an extra room for families with extra kids to share.
Unfortunately, the weather did not allow us to explore the area on foot, but the fireplace made up for it. Thanks to Kobus for spoiling us with his endearing personality and help!
We had a great mid-week stay and everything you could want is there already. Much bigger than it appears in photos and everyone was very comfortable with great mattresses and pillows and lots of seating areas available as well. The Weber needs a bit of help (presumably from people having burned wood in it instead of charcoal) but nothing a bit of foil couldn't fix. There's a lot of song and dance about the house being off-grid and solar powered and therefore not to use any of the appliances that are already there, but as a solar user myself it just illustrated a fundamental lack of understanding of how this all actually works. Far more useful would be an indicator to guests of how much battery is left and the current load rather than all the rules and regulations; flying blind is the only real problem with the house being off-grid and it shouldn't be for guests to manage this if the system isn't specced properly. The drive there was actually no problem at all even with one of the cars in the party being reasonably sporty and therefore low. Overall we had a great time, the lists of do's and don'ts were just so unnecessary and dampened the experience. Directions were also extremely convoluted for no good reason at all.
The accommodation is spacious, clean and well-equipped, and the large stoep with fabulous mountain views added to our enjoyment. The swimming pool was very welcome in the 40-degree heat! An ideal place to chill with a book, go for walks, bird watching, and spend quality time with family and friends. Thank you!
Location and view - perfect. Directions were very confusing and we ended up stuck. Also got stuck in the gravel when leaving - while driving a Fortuner. The farmer was helpful, but he's not even the host. All the crockery is chipped. There was old toothpaste on the towels. It is deceptive that you have loads of space to walk dogs etc since most of the property in the photos belongs to surrounding farmers who have locked their gates so you can't enter. Not to mention the literal millions of ticks that make it impossible to walk outside. If you want somewhere off grid, it's definitely that. But the price is exorbitant considering what you actually get - oversold for sure!
Beautiful views and hiking trails out of this world.
Would have appreciated better cooking equipment ie. knives, large cutting boards, wine/juice glasses, braai bakke and more outdoor seating. These are all nice to haves I mentioned. We really enjoyed every moment. Thank you for a great time.
Very quiet with lovely routes to walk or cycle.
We had a wonderful stay, everything was clean and tidy. Pool water was extremely cold, but we still swam on Saturday afternoon, as it was wonderfully warm.
We went to Robertson Stays with another family and our two teenagers. The house was lovely, it suited our needs perfectly with spectacular views. The beds were comfortable, and the amenities were great. We hiked in the mountains on both mornings and loved it. We will definitely return, hopefully for a longer stay next time.
Second time we stayed here and it was absolutely perfect! Such a beautiful house and setting. Really relaxed and enjoyed the time with friends.
The surroundings are lovely and quiet. The house is well equipped and comfortable. The caretaker, Kobus, was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend the place and go back again.
I was impressed with the cleanliness and hospitality of the holiday house. This made the stay more comfortable and enjoyable. Aside from the house, the views are absolutely beautiful! My relatives and I took kids for a walk up a walking trail and although the weather wasn't great, they couldn't wait to dip in the pool. Electricity consumed was from the solar panels, so make sure you go prepared, i. e. torches or rechargeable lights at night only if the weather ain't sunny. You will have nothing short than a breath of fresh air and lotsa space for fun!
So tranquil and a great place to hit reboot. The pictures do not do it justice.
The visit at Robertson Stay was very nice, the place was clean and the caretaker Kobus was very top and helpful. Only two matters that require urgent attention, (1) the path leading to the batteries under the house should be better blocked off. One of my friends forgot about the path and lost his balance and fell into the ditch and broke his ribs. Railings should definitely be put up, this is important for both adults and especially for children. The gas bottles didn't work for the showers on Friday night either, and Kobus had to be brought in to help. Otherwise we had a great time, the environment was nice and we could cycle and walk.
Great views of the valley. A lovely off-grid breakaway.
For a completely off the grid, secluded holiday to rejuvenate and forget about the outside world for just a few days, Robertson stays is definitely the place to be. The home was clean and well equipped with everything you need.
Maybe just look at the septic tank. There was a sewage smell coming from some tank.
Beautiful place with a favorable location and a truly breathtaking view and very nice walking routes. Accommodation was very neat and the pool on the stoep was a bonus.
Incredible luxury home with everything needed for a relaxing weekend! Will definitely be back again with more friends!

House rules
As electricity is supplied by solar power, no high-usage appliances are allowed, such as hairdryers, hair straighteners, the oven, heaters, and air-conditioners.The road is a dirt road, accessible by normal sedan car but is easier with high clearance.
The house has a dam in front, so not advisable for people with children that can't swim.
No smoking is permitted inside.
Water is supplied by river water and borehole water:
In winter the water comes straight from the mountain stream and it is a fantastic feeling to shower and bath in this freshwater. Just note that it is not crystal clear but has the natural light brown colour of mountain stream water.
Due to the devastating fire 2 years ago, the mountain stream dries up in the summer but we then switch over to borehole water
5-litre water bottles are supplied for drinking water, but the tap water is potable.
The road to the property is in good general condition but there is a dry river bed to cross.
A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. If you have a normal car, you can always leave a car at the neighbouring farm and Kobus can take you through if arrangements are made a day or 2 before arrival.
The weather in Robertson can be extreme and I will always check the weather a few days before arrival. If extreme storms are predicted I might advise you to cancel but the decision is yours.
A maximum of 3 dogs is allowed.
