Very nice, especially the air conditioners on the hot day. The food is always delicious, especially the breakfast that is included in the stay. The town is also pretty clean.
A delightful stay, with unobtrusive but attentive staff who were always happy to assist with anything, including my dietary requirements (i.e. making meals that weren't strictly on the menu). I booked a self-catering room, which was mostly adequate. However, although the kitchenette was well-stocked with just about everything one needs to make meals, there was a crucial element missing - no stove of any sort. There was a microwave, but that's not a lot of use for metal pots and pans. Nevertheless, it was adequate for my needs for the week. My only other comment is that the washers in the taps (bathroom and kitchenette) need replacing - imperative in a semi-arid zone which has been affected by drought for the last 8-10 years, as it was almost impossible to close off the taps so that they didn't drip. Overall though, I was quite happy at the accommodation and would definitely recommend it.

The communication was great from the start. Since we were on our way back from vacation, Johan and his team did everything to make us feel welcome. The New Year's barbeque was delicious and we felt right at home. They put so much effort into our daughter's birthday and made her day feel extra special. Beautiful hotel and wonderful people!

I discovered the beautiful village hotel in 2015 and have stayed there several times since then. In fact, I go out of my way especially to be able to spend the night there during holidays and experience the unique town of Steytlerville. Haven't met guests there who don't want to return.
Johan Trollip and his staff deserve a big thumbs up! I sleep on a cpap machine and they assured me every night that I would sleep peacefully, because they started the generator every night during load shedding. What a gem of a place between now and nowhere! Delicious food, lovely accommodation and staff who know what customer service means. Nothing was too much trouble for Johan and his staff - I will make an effort to stay there again. Super value for money.
People need to hang out on the back roads more.
Great service with delicious restaurant and bar. We felt safe with our pets, the people are incredibly friendly and helpful. Neat, clean, fully equipped rooms. Garden and pool are beautifully maintained. Absolutely a gem in the arid region, real oasis.

What an amazing place to stay in the middle of the town's Main Street. The friendly service we received from the owners to the staff was phenomenal. The rooms were beautifully decorated, clean and equipped with all the amenities. It is a place for family and friends to gather, be it at the pool, on the verandah or in the pub. The staff are amazing: Francois and the kitchen staff, thank you for the excellent service and yummy food. I can without hesitation recommend a stay at the Royal Hotel.

I think Steytlerville is a town to visit and the hotel is just the place to stay, to get that real "old world" feel. All businesses are having a hard time with the lockdown times and the Royal Hotel is also feeling the pressure. However, the staff go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. It will be a sad day if we have to lose all our small town hotels. May it only get better and better with the Royal.

Very clean and the staff is very friendly. Just sorry about people who were there on Friday night whose language was very poor. We feel staff/management should act in such cases and have addressed the person. People should respect other people. Also don't like the smoke inside the bar area.
No air conditioning, ceiling fans not working, swimming pool not clean and clear and dinner was not good. Opposite a noisy gas station on the main street.

I made a reservation to sleep over with friends on the 6th and unfortunately we couldn't make the reservation because we were in a serious car accident. What a surprise to arrive at Steytlerville and discover a neat little town with an equally neat hotel. Reception was friendly. Rooms beautifully clean and food with dinner delicious! Johan Trollip's paintings in the hotel are beautiful and provide timeless pleasure and tranquility to look at. Breakfast was also delicious and we drove away with a flask of delicious hot coffee for the road.

A bit expensive compared to other accommodation we have booked in the past year. Dinner was very nice. Photos are slightly misleading and create an illusion of more luxury and better finish than was found in reality. Kitchen very basic equipped: only 3 forks instead of 4, no cutting knife. Bed relatively comfortable. We were a little disappointed with the accommodation.
It was great, very helpful. Had to cancel the last night, but Johan was kind enough not to charge cancellation for one room. Everything great, will certainly return.
The room was beautiful and spacious, the bedding was neat and the bed was nice and big. The restautant was excellent, and the food very tasty and well prepared and served. Francois and Sproete had been of great help and it was nice to be served by them, nothing was too much trouble and they were always ready with a joke.

I recommend closing the door between the bathroom and the patio permanently. Would improve privacy a lot. The beautiful wooden floor needs attention. And the walls are damp. Still we got proper sleep on a quality bed. Beautiful old furniture, spacious room.
It is a good hotel to spend the night at and visit a bit. The owner and his staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are nice and spacious and very clean, your car is safe because there is parking on the premises. The food was also very tasty and well priced.

Everything was great, but we didn't sleep well because of the light outside our door. Didn't know we could turn it off. They should think about putting a curtain in front of the door's window or to inform guests of the light switch. Please put a bin close to the kettle for tea bags, etc. The white towels make it hard for guests with coloured hair. Hair dryer? Will stay here again when we go that way.
