Loved every inch of this experience! The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. The highlight was the lamb dinner served by three wonderful ladies who were Johnny-on-the-spot in sync with perfect execution and timing. Highly recommend!

Anel and Izak always have good accommodation and if you need to travel between the Cape and the Free State or maybe even the Cape and Johannesburg, this is a good location for a stopover between the two points. However, if you are a person/family who would like to have a sink for dishes in your room, this particular room is not the right room for you. Unfortunately the WiFi didn't work at all in the room either. But "all-in-all" good, comfortable stay.

Words are lacking to even describe the experience of staying. The unit was immaculate — nothing was missing! We spent the evening eating a plate of farmer's food in the restaurant which was an experience in itself!

Perfect overnight stop between Cape Town and Joburg. We ordered a braai pack which was delivered with everything one would need. Food was delicious and the apartment was clean and modern. Anel was an attentive host!

I always enjoy the stopover at Skietkuil. It is well situated when travelling from Gauteng to the Cape. Everyone is friendly and helpful and the food is always superb.
Enjoyed the tranquility of the Karoo after a long tiring drive. Was really looking forward to farmer's food that evening, but unfortunately the restaurant was closed that evening. Also very nice place to sleep over.

From the time we arrived till the time we left, we were treated like royalty. The unit was stunning from top to bottom and extremely clean. The food was top class and I cannot think of 1 thing we were unhappy about. The friendliness with which we were treated is unheard of. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Lovely accommodation with everything one needs to recharge on the way to the sea. We got barbecue suits and had a nice barbecue. The only criticism is that we would have liked a table and chairs to eat at. Furthermore, it is very neat, clean and very luxurious. Thank you very much.

We really enjoyed our overnight stay there. It is quiet and peaceful. The big dogs got on our small children and little dog a bit, but the dogs are friendly and well disciplined.
Anel and Isak have a gem of a farm and the overnight facilities are excellent as well as the delicious Karoo food that Anel has prepared. Feel free to try the braai suit, make a fire and look at the stars.
It was the second time we slept at Skietkuil, and certainly not the last. Both times were great. We ordered the barbecue package this time, and the food was more than enough. The rooms are always very clean and tidy, and the team very hospitable. I will definitely stay there again.
We go to Cape Town for vacation every year and have to sleep over on the way there. We found our permanent stopover this year. The owners and the staff are friendly and helpful and the accommodation is modern, clean and tidy. Anel (owner) will contact you on the day you have to arrive to find out if you will be eating at their restaurant or if you will need a barbecue package instead. We decided to eat at the restaurant instead (including bobotie, lamb pie, lamb stew and so on). Anel prepares the food herself and it is mouth-wateringly delicious and the portions are enough to satisfy even the hungriest person and at very reasonable prices. She also makes the most delicious ice cream, which she serves with a homemade marshmallow pudding. Breakfast was just as delicious and balanced. Shooting Pit is definitely a place to stay!

This was definitely the best overnight destination we have ever stayed at. The unit is nice and spacious, very well furnished with everything you need and a full fridge with a nice cold beer waiting when you arrive. Izak and Anel are very helpful and hospitable and specially brought us a wooden cot to our unit for our little boy. We enjoyed a delicious plate of cooked food that evening in the restaurant. We rested and visited very well. I would definitely recommend the stay.

We were contacted before our arrival to find out if we wanted a cooked meal or barbecue package for dinner. The owners are very friendly, helpful and available. The bed linen was clean and the place is comfortably furnished with everything you need. Our whole family could shower in hot water. It is quiet and peaceful. If we ever drive down to the Cape again, this is definitely our overnight stop. Definitely safe, clean and pleasant. The places are well furnished and provide everything needed for a good night's rest after a long drive.
The guesthouse is spacious, which meets every need. Brilliant and friendly service. Most delicious lamb dinner, it is highly recommended.

Shooting pit is always a great escape after a day on the road. It is convenient to the N1, but far enough that vehicles are not a nuisance at night. Lovely beds and clean linen, and a nice plate of cooked food together with Anel and Izak's hospitality, I come back here every time.
Our unit was very neat and clean, but a bit impractical without a sink in the kitchen area and the bathroom sitting in the second room.
Conveniently situated right next to the N1 in the beautiful karoo, Skietkuil was a welcoming relief after a long drive from Johannesburg. My vegetarian, and daughters gluten free diets were catered for for dinner, unfortunately not for breakfast, but they do have a fully equipped self catering kitchen in the cottages to make your own. Best surprise was a cold beer from the honesty fridge. Would definitely recommend.

Kitchen however inadequate. No sink or faucet. Not adequately equipped. Not suitable for self catering. Unit No. 2 not suitable for more than one family. Extremely inconvenient to walk through one room to bathroom.
We were looking for a practical place to sleep during our long journey to Hartenbos. We were quite surprised with how conveniently SkietKuil fit into our travel plans. We were still on our way when we were contacted about our dinner needs (as the restaurant was closed due to COVID). Braai packs were offered to us and we made use of them. We were able to rest well and left the next morning at around 09:00.
It was a lovely sleepover, barbecue packets, salad and barbecue sandwiches were delicious. Very hospitable! We will definitely stay there again.
It's now the 2nd time we've stayed the night there! Wonderful people and service! They even went to show the children the farm. Would recommend it to anyone. Stay for at least 2 nights, it's worth it!

We arrived at the farm just after dark. Everything was ready and the staff did their best to make us feel comfortable. The facilities are beautiful and we were able to relax. The stoep light was not functioning. The hard water had clogged the shower rose and effected the inner surface of the kettle.
Small things are very much appreciated such as e.g. that the owner called in advance, even though she was on vacation, to make sure what and where we wanted to eat, and also left a pack of ice in the freezer for us which we really appreciated, which you don't get in many places . It may not be necessary for all the different types of beers and soft drinks in the fridge, as we had to take out a few things to make room for our water bottles, but otherwise it was a lovely place to rest on the long road. Would be nice if No. 1 also had a covered braai if it's windy or rainy, and the braai suits were a bit on the expensive side (sandwiches had almost no tomato and very little cheese) but we enjoyed the boma very much! We will definitely come again!

Unit No.1 is not suitable for self-catering. Basic washing facilities are missing and there is no dining table and chairs or similar.
We had a great time with Izak and Anel and their family. Delicious food, and my kids played rugby with their children on the grass until late. We didn't even want to drive the next morning. We had way too much fun.

We will certainly stay overnight at Skietkuil every time we travel on the N1. The dinner and breakfast are top class.
After a long journey from Johannesburg, Skietkuil was like manna, it's located near the N1 so easy to get there, the room is beautiful and spacious, with an authentic farmhouse feel. The wooden floors, friendly reefs and hospitable owners made us feel very welcome, and after a wonderful night's rest we could start the road to Cape Town.
My biggest problem was the lack of a kitchen. The web page says the unit has a small kitchen. In other words, I would at least expect that there is a two plate stove somewhere with one / two pans and pots that can be used. I would also expect to have a sink somewhere where one could wash well. Honestly, a small fridge and the availability of cutlery is not equivalent to a small kitchen. The small bar fridge is used as an 'honesty bar', and while it can certainly be of convenience for travellers, I think it might be necessary to ask in advance if one wants to use it. I had to unpack everything to get my fridge well stored, and after unpacking everything, I found that the fridge was not very clean. The rest of the unit was 100%.
What you see on the website is exactly what you get and as soon as you step in, your expectations will be exceeded. There are clearly lots of sensitive hands on the fancy guest farm, all painfully neat. Guests can count on friendly host and hostess. We will certainly spend the night here every year! Thank you very much for the opportunity for us to relax.

One rushes past here so easily. From the road it's just another farm. But from the site's side, it's a hearty affair. Even the two ridgeback dogs were happy to welcome us. The lamb pie was superb. Truly a place I will stop by again...

Anel and Izak are wonderful hosts and make their guests very comfortable. The three course evening dinner was superb, especially considering the remote location. We skipped breakfast and had cereal in our room because the dining room doesn't open until 7.30 am which is a bit late when one is travelling. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Note that in unit 4, guests in the second bedroom have to walk through the main bedroom to access the bathroom. We were looking forward to the swimming pool, but unfortunately the water quality was quite bad - it may have been clean enough to swim in, but it was very murky with debris and not at all appealing. It would be worthwhile installing a pump and filter system. Also, a couple of lounge chairs would be welcome.

Guests can relax with a refreshment out of their honesty fridges or at the bar in the entertainment area. From the farm kitchen comes fine country cuisine, Karoo lamb, beef, and venison, prepared to your preference with home-grown selection of fresh farm vegetables. Dinner is served by arrangement in the restaurant. Unfortunately, no cooked dinners or breakfast will be served over weekends off-season.
A traditional barbeque under the Karoo stars is also a favourite, braai packs are offered. English breakfast are served on request.
