497 guests' feedbackThanks to Gretha, Sunel, and the the staff, we had a wonderful stay in a beautiful, quiet, and safe environment. We enjoyed the braai spot and the prestine garden very much. Thanks again.
Loved the Karoo experience. Terribly hot and dry when I got there and freezing cold when I drove in the morning. Room was very nice, clean and the hostess was very friendly and helpful. Big trees, beautiful birds, sheep and turtles were the icing on the cake.
What a beautiful place - super clean, convenient and comfortable. We would love to stay there again to enjoy the farm and natural beauty.
Our stay was very pleasant. Would love to come again and stay a little longer.
The owners were very hospitable.
Good service and willing to accommodate late arrival.
Quiet, spacious and tasteful.
Off the beaten track. Peaceful and practical.
Best value for money ever.
Very nice. Will definitely stay there again. Next time definitely longer than one night! Would definitely recommend it. Everything you need is there.
The large cottage was well appointed. A person just forgets when it is hunting season and is then restricted to drive or walk, which is inconvenient. Maybe the hostess can just send a reminder when there is hunting.
Lovely cottage. Enjoyed our short stay.
It's a privilege to arrive tired at a place and be received kindly. We were in the mood for good food and have to say that the lasagna and game pies that were baked for us and brought to the room were incredibly delicious. Afterwards we could relax in a bed covered with crisp white linen. For a weary traveler it is the unequivocally designated place to stay.
We had a really nice stay - everything was clean and tidy, just what we needed after a very long journey on the way to Paarl.
Pleasantly surprised to see KykNet on the DSTV package - this almost never happens and was a bonus for me. Feel free to order some of their food as well as the packed lunch for the next day. A suggestion with the food package is to replace the container of yogurt - you cannot eat the bag in the car while driving.
We thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay over. It was actually too short. Just to be away from the middle of town with the noisiness of the trucks was a bliss. Lovely farm and I will definitely stay here again.
This was our second stay and definitely won't be our last.
Breathtaking tranquility of self.
Air conditioning and nice shower was a pleasure!
It was amazing. We all enjoyed our stay.
It was good. Very friendly service! The braaipakkies were really yummy! The only little fault that I can find is that our room's shower pressure was very low and we didn't have a cloth (lappie) to clean with after we ate.
We always enjoy Steenbokkie. Improvements in the kitchen area are beautiful. Only negative comment is the low toilet in the master bedroom bathroom if you have knee problems. Warning of no water during load shedding would also have helped.
Very nice place. I will definitely stay there again. Service is friendly and the place is very nice.
Luv it. We rested well.
Beautiful place with on one side an awesome sundown and on the other side a stunning sunrise to be witnessed from the bed.
I got there at 7 o'clock in the evening and drove again at 6 o'clock the next morning, so can't say much. There are good signposts to the reserve, I was received kindly, the room is nice and clean, and the bed was comfortable. It is very good value for money for sure.
Very nice place, nice stay here.
Our second stay and just as happy with the service as the first time. Just a pleasant experience all around.
Was very nice, good mattresses, neat and clean.
Easily accessible from the N1 (main route). Beautifully furnished rooms with a well-equipped communal kitchen. We enjoyed our short (1 day) stay.
Particular place to stay for one or more days.
Wonderful, last minute booked stay. We will definitely return.
We used Cottage 1 and it was very neat and comfortable. Our short time there did not lead to exploring the farm and surroundings further and therefore no comment on that. The free access to the farm during the evening to photograph stars was a big plus.
Great value for money. Nice and clean.
It's so peaceful on the farm after a day's travel.
Lovely, peaceful place with beautiful scenery. Tiun is beautiful and the room is spacious, neat and clean.
They accommodated us with our late check-in time.
The room was neat and clean, except for a blocked shower drain. We had to get the people out to open the drain and clean the bathroom floor where the water was running from the shower. It's a very nice and peaceful atmosphere, except for the peacock that ran around on the roof right through the night. It kept us up quite a bit. We drove through the so-called reserve, but the animals were so wild that you could only see them through binoculars or a camera with a tail zoom lens.
Only used as overnight accommodation.
Warm welcome by friendly cats.
Good value for money and very tidy. The only criticism was that the one single bed just creaked terribly when I moved and turned, and it was very uncomfortable. Later in the evening I moved to the other single bed which was much more comfortable at the time.
We had a great stay and were informed in advance of load shedding times, as well as the weather which helped a lot with planning, especially if you have small children.
The location was great for an overnight stay along the N1. . Sadly the carpets were stained which detracted from the cleanliness of the accommodation.
After a long busy road, the accommodation is peaceful, with a nice blue pool/pond, green lawns, barbecue just the right place for an overnight stay.
Had a great stay.
Beautiful place with so much to do and see. Very tranquil and relaxing, had an amazing stay. Staff are friendly and helpful.
See stars.
I had a very nice stay, thank you. I was just unsure if we could use the little pool that was there, but will ask on my next visit.
We will definitely be back and stay longer.
Very hospitably received and deliciously grilled. Beautiful farm!!!
Quiet clean neat place. Could do with a gas plate for use during load shedding though.
Friendly service, beautiful room in a wonderful farm style setting.
The place is beautiful and well looked after.
Back hole place! Will definitely stay there again! Steenbokkie is very beautiful and the service was top quality!
It's far enough from everything, but close enough to what's needed. The place was a precious experience with nature around us.
Place where you can really rest and stargaze, go for a walk in the field and see beautiful wildlife.
We loved it. It was so peaceful and having the braai stuff waiting for us was lovely.
The manager also provided us with delicious meat barbecue packets, barbecue sandwiches and salad. We will use the accommodation option again at any time in the future. The rates are reasonable, it's very neat and clean and a pleasure to stay in nature.
Warm welcome, very hospitable!
The nature reserve was just beautiful thank you.
The weather was very bad with a strong wind and cold, but it was nice and sheltered in the unit.
The house is very neat. Well appointed. Lovely hot showers. Soft towels. We had a nice stay.
Facilities neat and service from staff was great. Farm environment was lovely.
Clean, large cottage with good facilities. Beautiful surroundings and an amazing night sky. Furniture needs renewal - dilapidated sofa and mattress in main bedroom result in back aches. The shower had no soap - had to resort to hand soap from the wash basin.
We were received very welcome and the cottage was very neat and had everything we needed. It is so peaceful there and we wish we could have stayed longer than just the one night. Will definitely stay there again.
There was no hot water. I believe they were aware of the problem and did not inform us. When I told the lady, she blamed someone else.
Our grandchildren could move around freely, very safely. It is an oasis of a place, will definitely stay there again. The double beds may just need to be updated a bit, as they are still the old headboard and footboard beds. The mattress is good, but it creaks and moves a lot when you turn over.
Not very power friendly. Would advise people to bring good rechargeable lights and gas stove. Furthermore, it is absolutely fantastic to hang out with the sheep. Will definitely go again. The absence of hanging space for clothes in the rooms is a bit inconvenient. The toilet seat in one bathroom needs attention.
Wifi needs attention, loved the bathroom and shower.
The little shop has everything you need and the communal braai area is delicious. The kames were a joy. I will definitely go again!
Lovely overnight stay.
Steenbokkie Nature Reserve is a nice peaceful and quiet place to break away. Staff are friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our break.
Very friendy and helpful. Nice and relaxed. Great value for money.
Many - swimming pool facilities may have more child safety in mind.
Due to my brother's sudden death, I could no longer travel myself, but my son slept there with Steenbokkie. There was no fridge, the place was raining and the power kept going off. It was probably because the heavy weather Nevertheless, it was reasonable, especially the tranquility helped him to rest after the long road back to Vredenburg.
Very nice area. It had been very peaceful. The braai facilities could be better. Didn't get the room we booked.
We chose this place as there were animals and some activities for the kids - there were none. The taps in the main bedroom shower also don't fully work. For the rate you pay per night, you would expect everything to be 100%.
Sheep droppings all over and in and around the residence. Mosquitoes and flies with no sprays. Bedding could be fresher; pillows smelled like someone else's body odour.
Me, my wife and our four-legged children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and evening's stay. The reserve is incredibly beautiful and the surrounding Karoo beauty makes this a piece of heaven on earth. The unit, separate kitchenette and common areas are neat and luxurious and have everything one needs. The gardens are beautifully maintained and the Karoo starry sky soothes one's soul after a long day on the road. Sunel's service and kindness is greatly appreciated. We will definitely visit Steenbokkie again.
We had a very nice stay here. We were originally only going to stay one day, but decided to stay a day longer. I would recommend Steenbokkie to anyone.
We had a wonderful stay. The air conditioning in the houses is a bonus especially on the hot days. We felt we wanted to stay even longer.
Very good place to stay.
Slept over in Cottage 1. Everything you need. Friendly reception, clean cottage. Overall lovely.
Our overnight stay was a pleasure.
I was very happy with this overnight stay. Arrived in the dark but was able to find it easily and the person at reception helped me quickly. Definitely prefer this quiet accommodation outside the town, than to hear trucks driving on the N1 all night in the town. Can definitely recommend it as good value for money.
We didn't arrive at Steenbokkie until after 20:00, they were helpful and friendly, we had a great barbecue and slept peacefully, they exceeded our expectations.
Due to circumstances, we only arrived after 7 to a host and wife who received us so kindly and did everything possible to make our stay so enjoyable. We now regret that we could not stay there longer and will definitely go back again soon for a longer stay. Fantastic place. Thank you very much for allowing us to discover this gem through the website.
Friendly welcome, comfortable spacious rooms. Very clean and tidy.
Nice long veld walks to do with the dogs. Lovely private garden and braai area.
Roanda welcomed us with open arms, a hostess of a thousand. It just feels like you've known her for years. Most beautiful garden. Comfortable accommodation with everything you need. We were rewarded with a beautiful sunset.
Will make more use of your place, it is very neat and makes you feel more secure. Thank you very much for everything.
Such friendly people and a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Very pleasant place to spend the night.
Nice, clean and comfortable accommodation where we were able to rest after driving from Gauteng and enjoy the Karoo.
We had an incredibly nice rest at Steenbokkie. Service was fantastic and everything was neat and clean. Had access to everything we needed. Tops!
This is a place I will visit again. There was just no WiFi available, which I would recommend they get and make available to guests.
Friendly and very helpful. Well priced in relation to other options in the area. Easy to get to more than just a stop over on the way to the Cape.
Efficient book in. Clean rooms. Beautiful scenery and gardens. A little oasis in the Karoo.
Mosquitoes were just bad. But otherwise no problems.
We had a great time at Steenbokkie. It was quiet and peaceful.
On the way to the Cape it is a nice place to stop.
Pleasant host, environment ant facilities. Delightful walk in the veld at sunset. Really pleasant stop.
Good reception. Rooms are outdated and in need of renovation. Information from reserve regarding attractions need to be updated. No game left except Springboks according to owner. So game drives don't exist. Unpleasant sewage smell in rooms. Owner says it is due to much rain they had. Rooms are very dark and have limited lighting. All necessities were available for self-catering. Delicious lamb chops bought at a small shop. Steenbokkie is way too expensive in my opinion for what is offered compared to where we stayed on our 3 week tour.
It had been ok. The pictures are not at all what it looks like there. Shower water pressure was very weak.
We booked a cottage, and were then put in a guest room because the previous guests had not yet checked out. We didn't check in early. So we didn't get what we wanted at all. The guest room's kitchen was separate, it's a bit impractical for us with a small child. The caretaker also told us about flood damage that they are still repairing. There was an unpleasant sewage smell at our room's entrance. I assume this was part of the repairs because the resort has french drains. All animals we saw were sheep, horses from afar, bunnies in a cage and pigeons in a cage. It was also not ideal to go for a walk because the place is covered with big ants that bite, but this is something that is not in the owner's control. There was also no free WiFi as advertised. And the pool is much smaller than it looks in the pictures.
We played musical beds to get to sleep, with one teenager possibly sleeping more comfortably on the (old) couch. We went looking for the sparkling large pool in the photos. Then not now. This is probably accommodation for a niche market - we only booked overnight accommodation - and unfortunately feel that it was not value for money.
Nothing special, overall an okay stay.
The sunset is breathtaking and the unit was very spacious.
Hospitable. Our stay was wonderful. So beautiful there.
Amazing hostess, Roanda, you make the place! Thank you for your professional and friendly hospitality! Your pickled figs are delicious! Winner! The air conditioner was a breeze and the braai package tops. We will come again - God willing!
Reception was very friendly, and we immediately felt at home. The farm is very tidy, and accommodation is well equipped. Will definitely visit there again.
Hostess so warm. Previously stayed here will definitely be again. Heaven on earth. Most beautiful sunset and quiet.
Clean and tidy and nice on the farm!
The premises and staff are the best.
The reserve is beautiful, with a good area to walk/run through the veld after a long drive. It's easily accessible, and we enjoyed the peace.
We were very impressed with Steenbokkie's facilities, despite the severe drought they have created a small oasis. There is a lovely play area for small children, and booth with bunnies and even a peacock! The water goats are fed and we were able to get close to them. But the big highlight was the lambs! The sheep are tame and charge at a person. We caught a little lamb and it was great for my toddler to hold the little thing. The only piece of advice I would offer is as follows: Plan to eat out or bring everything with you for meals, almost like camping. The kitchenette is a shared kitchen and very basic.
Quiet farm atmosphere.
We stayed in the cottage twice - during our trip to the Cape and again on our return. During the first stay, the cottage was very clean and tidy. We bought wood and Karoo lamb barbecue suits from the office, had a good barbecue and enjoyed the silence and seclusion. During our second visit, the unit and porch were not quite as clean as the first time, which we attribute to the fact that it was on the 2nd of January. There were also a lot of mosquitoes, but at least a mosquito device in each bedroom. For the peaceful atmosphere and the most beautiful sunrise we have experienced, we will stay there again.
Children really enjoyed all the animals on the farm.
The place is a bit old but still beautiful and clean.
There are a few issues - the big air conditioner in the lounge area doesn't work and in the morning we didn't have water. Despite this, we would definitely stay there again!
We visited the Karoo National Park and used Steenbokkie as a sleepover. Our room overlooked lovely gardens with tables set in the garden to enjoy your meals. There is a kitchen setup for guests to use with a mini oven, cutlery etc. This is a private nature reserve with antelopes and farm animals in fenced-off areas next to accommodation. It is situated outside town and thus quiet and peaceful with beautiful sunsets. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Beaufort West is a good distance to break a long drive, but usually the sound of trucks on the N1 is annoying. Here you have peace and space to relax, go for a walk or stretch your legs.
If we drive, I require a comfortable bed, clean sheets and a clean unit with an air conditioner that works properly, especially in the Karoo after being in the car all day with an air conditioner. The bed was a disappointment to me and I did not sleep well.
The place was cute, but one night's stay will be sufficient for the traveler who wants to keep busy. The pictures of the large pool were misleading, but the owner was very friendly and helpful.
We really enjoyed staying at Steenbokkie Nature Reserve. It is such a great place to stay, especially if you're looking for a stop-over between Johannesburg and Cape Town. We will definitely stay here again!
Too far from the highway. No parking close to my accommodation.
No fridge or WiFi in the room.
The website is not at all a reflection of the true state of accommodation. The building is unclean, maintenance is not done well, bathroom faucets are dirty and brown, there was a horrible sewage smell at the room entrance, swimming pool in photos is not in reality. Two storage pools provided. Overall poor maintenance.
The pond and dam is filthy and the area where the ducks and geese are kept is totally unacceptable. Was quite upsetting to see them swimming in all that muck and filth.
Will definitely stay with them again.
A wonderful green oasis in the middle of the Karoo. My children enjoyed the large lawn and the farm animals. I definitely recommend it to anyone.
See stars.
Hospitality and was delicious.
Unfortunately we only stayed 1 night because we had to travel on the next day. The morning before we left I went jogging for about 5 km through the reserve and it was wonderful - just goats where you look with the sun rising in the distance. What a wonderful experience for just one night's sleepover - I'm sure it only gets better the longer you stay.
We choose Steenbokkie as a place to sleep every time. Clean, quiet and beautiful.
The peace and quiet overwhelms you as soon as you enter. The reception is friendly. The mountains in the background are breathtaking. Will definitely stop there again.
A jewel in the Karoo. Friendly host and hostess, clean facilities, well-stocked shop, lush green garden and caravan park. See how sheep return to the fold and experience the peaceful farm life on a Karoo farm! A must for young and old.
We had a really nice stay at Steenbokkie Nature Reserve. Could go for a nice walk.
Peaceful and quiet - perfect.
Very peaceful environment and nice stay.
All that is missing is a mirror by the sink in the bathroom.
We will definitely visit Steenbokkie again, would like to stay in the caravan park. Lovely to see animals and hear silence.
I would recommend Steenbokkie Nature Reserve as an overnight destination. Thank you for good service and tidy room and grounds.
The farm is very well located for a large town and it's just a shame that my normal car couldn't drive the farm roads. But at least we saw the feed of the Njalas. It also offers more value for money to visit the Karoo National Park.
I Will return if I need to stop on my route to Cape Town.
Very nice farm people. They let our 2 year old feed the baby sheep milk. Quiet place with nice green grass for the children to play on.
Beautiful, clean room and garden is very nice. Lovely in nature and farm atmosphere with everything you need.
Quiet safe place on the farm out of town, safe, clean and quiet. There are also nice camping grounds and caravan parks.
Lovely farm atmosphere.
What a lovely stopover from Cape Town to Johannesburg with our dog. We will most definitely be back. A gem! Wish we had more time to enjoy the beauty.
Bed deliciously cosy. Basic hospitality.
Very neat and clean unit with good warm sleeping facilities. Well equipped kitchen with everything we needed. Bathrooms were clean and tidy with excellent modern showers.
Steenbokkie Nature Reserve was a pleasant surprise and spotless! The princess pillows were an added bonus for a riding fox body. I would recommend Steenbokkie anytime, not only as an overnight stopover, but the comfortable cottage could easily serve as an alternative holiday destination.
A rest stop between Cape Town and Bloemfontein, amazing service and great stay.
Lovely visit quietly and away from the city noise. Can recommend if you want to recharge.
We really enjoy staying at this relaxed family oriented nature reserve.
Lovely peaceful surroundings. Would recommend to anyone. Will come again!
We had a great stay in our spacious cottage which had all the necessary appliances (including a stove with an oven) and aircons (one in the room and one in the living room). We also had fun swimming and could relax on our porch under the stars.
Located just outside of the town, Steenbokkie was a peaceful haven. Well-equipped chalets and plenty of space to walk around.
You only have to take your own food with you, otherwise you will have to drive into Beaufort West. However, it is not far. I would have liked a small microwave, to warm up the food you bring with you. Furthermore, there is a kettle, coffee, tea and milk. It was already our second time to sleep there. Very nice. I can recommend Steenbokkie.
It's the second time I spend the night here. New management. Beautiful surroundings. Wonderful hostess. Will definitely stay there again.
Very neat and safe place with a beautiful view of the mountains. We will definitely use the accommodation again.
We slept very peacefully the one night we spent the night. Place is clean and well equipped. Owners are also very friendly and helpful. My only problem was poor directions from the main road especially at night. We got a little lost and cellphone reception is poor so you can't call for help.
Nice sleepover with children and a dog. Very neat and nice place for children to run around.
Very comfortable and good value for money. Will definitely visit again.
Peaceful atmosphere in the heart of the Karoo. Breathtaking scenery just a little out of town, but not seriously. Can you think of an electric gate for people with disabilities and also someone to help unload luggage for tired single ladies like myself I have with oxygen machine and luggage if I had to unload myself after a 7 hour journey I was done and warm. That's all. Thank you.
Our house was broken into and we had to return a few days earlier than planned. Although they were fully booked, Roanda and her team were very accommodating, she made room for us in the hunters' hut. It's a bit far but the giraffes, stars, sunrise and silence made it amazing.
The unit was clean. It had aircon in the 2 bedrooms and lounge. The mattresses and bedding was absolutely fantastic.
The hostess was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and tidy.
The type of place You want to stay a weekend and not just a night. Loved Steenbokkie. Beautiful rooms. Loved the farm animals and the peace and tranquillity of the Karoo.
The photos are totally misleading.
What have we let ourselves in for! I would never recommend this place to anyone. Reception was highly unprofessional. I booked Cottage 1 but on arrival I was informed that they put us in the Jaghuis because they were overbooked. However, I insisted on sleeping in what I booked. What a shock! The accommodation does not look like the photos at all. Chairs on porch were full of bird droppings, blinds at front door were gone, blind in master bedroom didn't work. Air conditioning in rooms never made it cold even if we left it on all night. There were dead mosquitoes all over the walls. This shower floor was very slippery like when it is never cleaned. All good thing is that the bedding and towels were clean. We couldn't get out of there fast enough the next morning. If there was another place available we would have rather lost the money we paid at Steenbokkie and slept somewhere else.
What an awesome place. Can't wait to go there again! Definitely worth it!
Second time we stay with them. They will definitely see me again next December.
See stars.
Beautiful well equipped cottage. Beautiful view. Very friendly and helpful host. Will definitely stay there again and recommend to friends and family.
We will spend the night there again anytime when we drive to the Cape. It is a safe, clean and very peaceful environment. The service was also very helpful and very friendly people.
Thank you very much we had a wonderful stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pool is nice and big! Will definitely come back again!
It was an absolutely lovely stay. Was peaceful and comfortable. We couldn't ask for more for 1 night's stay. Could buy meat and wood for braai. Drinks were available. From beer, wine, soft drinks to water. Service was first class.
Lovely farm well suited to kids. The whole team were incredibly friendly and helpful.
It was beautifully set out.
We had a great stay and would definitely recommend Steenbokkie.
Really enjoyed our overnight stay. In nature, peacefully with animals around you. Will definitely stay there again.
It's a little piece of heaven.
Excellent service and warm welcome. Spacious and clean 2 bedroom 2 bathroom cottage! Fully equipped with nice braai place and stoepie. Would definitely recommend the place. Thank you very much!
We really enjoyed it.
Very neat. Friendly reception. Beautiful environment despite drought.
It was truly a long-distance oasis, the town is 7 min away. Wimpy etc.
Lovely stay-over. Enjoyed the facilities.
The privacy offered by the cottage was precious to us. The scenery, sunset, bucks grazing, the stars in the night sky were all we could ask for, and more. The fact that the town is within walking distance is also a bonus. The comfort of the cottage was also highly appreciated. We will definitely use Capricorn again. Thank you to Roana for her kindness and hospitality.
Hostess was excellent! She went out of her way to make it convenient for me.
How wonderful it was to get there late night with a broken vehicle and immediately help is offered and the vehicle repaired. Heartfelt people who made us feel very welcome. Had a nice barbeque with our Karoo meat available on site. And then a green lawn and ferns in the garden and that in the arid Karoo.
Would recommend this place to all my friends and family. The place is neat and clean. Braai facility is cosy and close to the unit. Would definitely go back real soon.
My two day stay was just what we needed to unwind and relax. The reception and hospitality of the Karoo's people make you feel very welcome. The cottage is very neat and fully equipped and definitely worth a visit again.
It was a fantastic, wonderful stay. Money's worth. The chalets are big and spacious.
We were warmly welcomed by a springbok that's at home everywhere. We had a great stay and were impressed by the beautiful area.
Easy to get to reserve, very neat and clean, slept well and got some rest on our way tot our destination, would definitely recommend Steenbokkie.
The people are very friendly and the place is very cute and peaceful. Thank you very much.
Very nice experience with no problems and value for money.
It is a beautiful oasis. It's great to relax after the long road. The silence is wonderful. The staff is friendly.
Hospitality was fine.
Will definitely stay there again.
Friendly reception, hospitable, great overnight stay.
After a long journey it was lovely to relax in a cool room. After we calmed down, we went for a walk and reveled in the vastness of the Karoo. Thank you for the freezer facilities to keep our meat food. Perfect overnight facilities!
We were received very kindly and quickly helped before much welcome rain hampered our catching and packing. The cottage was very clean and tidy and we were able to rest well before our further journey. Thank you very much, Steenbokkie, we will definitely visit you again.
Pleasantly surprised with a cold pool. Room was neat, clean and easy access to shared kitchen. Would definitely recommend this stop if you are traveling far, or even just want to get away to the Karoo for a few days. The animals give character to the farm.
We really enjoyed the tranquility and nature. The cottage was very neat and spacious and has everything you need. Our boy really enjoyed the farm animals.
We slept great. Would have liked a full length mirror in the room/bathroom and the curtain to the outside was very thin.
It was a very pleasant surprise to come across the beautiful and peaceful place. Will definitely stay there again. All that bothered me a bit is that we booked the place on the Monday and when we got there on the Tuesday, the lady was not aware of our booking. What if she has rented out the place to other guests in the meantime? I think the owner who does the admin should make sure that the reservations are communicated to the farm in time. Furthermore, there are no complaints. It's a great and neat place to call home!
Very nice, but there are a lot of mosquitoes.
The nature and wildlife around the accommodation area is really something to behold.
We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were exactly what we wanted. The pool was unfortunately too dirty to swim in, which was a big disappointment for the kids. They immediately tried to fix it, but unfortunately we could not swim before we had to leave again. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Lovely big and neat house. Value for money. Kids enjoyed the animals. Would stay there again.
The owners were awesome and very friendly. There place is very nice and they have a lot of animals. There is also camping and caravan facilities. We had a wonderful stay. Will definitely stay there again.
Ideal for a stopover on the way to the Cape. Very good value for money!
Very neat and quiet and reception was friendly.
The room was neat with everything needed for a good night's rest after a day on the road.
The bedroom's bathroom is not tidy. Untidy tiles, no mirror, no hanging place for towels or place to put down toiletry bag or clothes. At least one expects more from a place to stay the night. No coffee or tea bags or a biscuit for the morning before you leave. We had a long journey from Pretoria to the overnight stop. Then at least you expect more.
A lovely farm experience with many animals. Lovely place for families with young children.
Besides the fact that the house we had to stay in stood alone far from the main building, with no security, we had a scary wrestling match with a red novel and could not sleep peacefully. The beds are also very hard and did not contribute to a good night's sleep.
Firstly I booked a two room chalet which was not available and I was not informed. Second, the place is not up to standard at all.
Although just an overnight accommodation, one wants to have value for your money. Compared to other facilities, Steenbokkie is not up to standard.
Very friendly welcoming and the chalet was really neat, clean and cool with aircon.
Very friendly welcome. Truly value for money. Clean. Children will love the animals. There are goats, horses, pigs, chickens etc. The peacocks were beautiful, but woke me up early in the day. Enjoyed a walk in the Karoo field. You will not get better value for money.
Value for money and everything I needed for my journey.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The animals make it special.
A pleasant surprise. Had a wonderful stay. Beautiful place. The tame animals make it a children's paradise.
Wonderful, peaceful atmosphere.
Dries was very helpful and we were able to walk around and take all the "orphans" and rub their ears - he has a heart of gold - the place is cutely furnished but the mattresses are cooked. But warm blankets and additional blanket are in good condition. Kitchen has everything you need and it's clean and tidy. Nice big fridge and stove, enough milk and just a percolator that is ready for coffee. Very quiet place and the dirt road is very manageable.
We slept wonderfully, were received very hospitably and were able to get to know the animals more closely the morning before our departure. Room is well equipped.
Dries is very nice. Place is very nice and pleasant to stay in. Children enjoy their holes out there.
Thank you so much, you guys added to wonderful memories of ours. You will also see us again! Also, thank you for the clear directions, emails, sms's and WhatsApp messages. The entire time we knew what was going on and had no worries whatsoever.
Steenbokkie offers simple yet neat and clean facilities in a rural setting that calls out for further exploration. Hospitable, approachable and real value for money. I happily recommend Steenbokkie and his people!
Away from noise, very safe. Farm atmosphere. Cute playground for children.
We decided unexpectedly to overnight there on our way home from the Kruger National Park. The tame animals were a highlight. Also the warm blankets on the bed and the air conditioning in the rooms. The owner was very friendly and after my daughter forgot her pendant there, he sent a photo the following day to see if it was our property and mailed it to us immediately. We will certainly go back there and recommend it to anyone who loves the farm and animals.
From goats, lamb giving milk, pig that comes to visit the house, swans, playground, breathtaking view over the plains, to a lovely warm cuddly bed to rest in!
We have already spent the night there with the forest wagon in a campsite and now as a family in the cottage. Both are clean and tidy. Will recommend them for sure. Dries, thank you very much for your hospitality. We will see each other again for sure.
Would definitely recommend them.
Get very good service and everyone is friendly and is very neat and clean there.
We had a very nice stay.
We were very satisfied with the service. Unit was beautifully clean and very spacious!
Lovely resort, very comfortable for an overnight stay.
Friendly service, everything perfect.
Lovely lovely place. We stayed in the cottage on the hill, beautiful place, tame ibex around us. The next morning a very tame ibex came to entertain us in our unit. Was terribly hot and the air conditioning didn't work 100%, but for that I would recommend the place anytime!
Would recommend to people anytime and stay there again.
Our stay was very nice as always. The comfort and relaxation after a long arduous ride remains a big bonus. Thank you very much!
We had a great time relaxing after the day's long drive and my granddaughter had a great time cooling off in the pool. The animals that roam everywhere on the peaceful lawns are a feast for the eyes and only make you more peaceful and calm. Thank you very much, we had a great stay.
Steenbokkie is very easily accessible. Cottage 2 is very neat and fully equipped with lovely air-conditioned rooms. Definitely a lovely stopover for any weary traveller.
It was a very pleasant place to stay. Not far from town at all, if you want to go shopping or get takeaways. The animals around and in the camp really give it that farm atmosphere.
This happy place is a bit out of town, but not too far. It is wonderfully peaceful and feels like being on a farm. Would really like to sleep there more than one night. Can recommend to anyone who needs peace of mind.
Breathtaking, beautiful place, awesome memories. It is a must on the long road.
Enjoyed it a lot, recommended.
Beautiful area with all of the animals and birds. Service was good and very helpful. Comfortable room.
Very friendly. Excellent value for money and located in a beautiful, peaceful environment.
Steenbokkie was the perfect place to spend the night. Our two grandchildren, aged 5 and 2, were in their element with all the animals around them, especially the game goat that came to say hello to the room! Very peaceful, pleasant stay. We will definitely come to Steenbokkie again!
We only arrived after 18:00, but Dries was still ready to welcome us. Friendly and helpful. We had a pleasant stay. We appreciate the clear directions to the reserve.
We were pleasantly surprised by the accommodation and facilities. We found the cottage to be clean, well kept and adequately equipped. The coffee machine and good coffee was an added bonus before our early start. My kids had a ball exploring the farm, the management was very accommodating towards their specific requests.
We really enjoyed the place for the second time. It is relaxing after a long journey, away from the noise of the huge trucks that drive through town day and night. It should be banned, as well as in all the other towns along the N1. The microwave in the communal kitchen was out of order, no coffee mugs, only 2 in the room. That kitchen needs TLC. I don't think the gates are locked at night.
Although there was a slight confusion with our room, the service was excellent, the room was very tidy and the visit was very nice. We will definitely be going back and will definitely recommend to family and friends.
The cottage is very well furnished and spacious, animals around the house make it very interesting, quiet open spaces makes the atmosphere pleasant.
Very very nice and spacious. Will go there again.
It was really very pleasant to be able to spend the night there. Lovely facilities, plenty of space for the children and friendly service. Will definitely stop there again. Dries is a very pleasant person and takes his guests into account and informs them about the animals on the site.
Do yourself a favour, drive 4 km out of the town.
See stars.
Nice stay. Clean and tidy. Thank you for the box of milk in the fridge and it was great to be able to use the coffee machine for delicious fresh coffee! However, there was no tea in the tea tin. Single beds creaked terribly and the single bed bathroom's shower head was rusted, had to open holes with an alder screwdriver before we could shower.
Thank you very much Dries. I enjoyed my stay.
Management at Steenbokkie Nature Reserve is changing and there was a miscommunication between the current and new manager so the new manager did not know we were on our way and therefore did not prepare for us and put other people in the room who we discussed We then got a very old room with windows that couldn't close, so we felt a bit unsafe to sleep like that on the farm. The place was neat and clean. They apologized for having to put us in that room because the whole room was already full. For us it was very important to find a place that is really pet friendly and we got it. Our dogs had a great time running on the big yard. Apart from the room we had a good experience and would stay there again - just in a better room next time.
Steenbokkie was a very nice place to sleep over to break up the long road in two parts. The aircon helped a lot with the heat. Close enough to town to drive into if needed.
It was pleasant and the people were friendly.
We were welcomed in a very friendly manner even though it was already after dark. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom was very comfortable and although I would have preferred a bath instead of a shower (for the little ones), we still managed with the nice shower. We had a very pleasant stay and will definitely stay with them again. Very good value for money and very affordable. Very hospitable and the free WiFi is an extra bonus.
Would just like more in room like e.g. plates and cutlery. First time staying in room, always camping.
Nice house, well equipped for cold winters, no problems encountered. Dries, the owner, made us feel very welcome.
Very nice visit, peaceful atmosphere with real farm feel and easily accessible from main routes. Bathroom in the cottage calls for some TLC. Had a great time, will use them again.
Nice Karoo experience. The stars in the evening are wonderful.
We fully enjoyed our stay. The welcoming was great and everything was very neat. The stay was awesome and even more value for money that we'd expected. The hundreds of animals on the terrain was a great experience. Felt at home. Would definitely stay there again.
Recommended for travelers to the Cape.
We were kindly received and the cottage was exactly what we expected. The karoon night was blissful with a beautiful full moon rising over the plains. Peacocks came to greet us on the stoep and later also a kid. In the early morning there were quite a few goats at our cottage and we could walk safely and far. Unfortunately we didn't see any giraffe, but we did see quite a few goats. It's a shame that our cottage overlooked the rubbish hole, but the rest more than made up for it. It was nice and I would easily stay there again.
Nice stay and friendly service.
The GPS coordinates just need to be corrected, otherwise you get lost and drive by.
Very peaceful farm atmosphere. Everything clean and tidy. Recommend to everyone.
Value for your money, nice people, atmosphere, fastest check-in ever and very safe and fun among the friendly animals. Definitely people with a big heart in Beaufortwes, you simply have to visit here.
It's a beautiful place, with comfortable rooms and very beautiful scenery. All the animals were definitely a highlight for my two year old boy. The communal kitchen does have potential for improvement in terms of cleanliness, beauty and equipment.
If you like tranquillity this is definitely the place. It's a bit out of town if you want to eat something. The furniture and TV are old. Can invest in a flat screen. The mattresses can be replaced. Very spacious with own kitchen.
Here you'll find the quiet you're looking for. We just stayed overnight. My kids enjoyed the place.
Very beautiful nature, peaceful, neat accommodation. Had a nice stay and will recommend to other people. The owner was very friendly and helpful.
Pure farm atmosphere, nice and relaxing.
The place is very neat. Nature and animals are beautiful. Was very quiet.
I had spent the night there with my caravan in the past and therefore had the courage to book a chalet there.
We were kindly received. The self-catering unit is tidy and everything needed is in the building. There was even braai wood!
I had a very nice stay at Steenbokkie. Exactly what I wanted as a solo traveler. The only complaint I have is that the bathroom mats could be cleaner and the inside of the bathroom door was full of fingerprints. Maybe Dries should just make the cleaning staff aware of it.
Such a nice relaxed atmosphere. The farm animals are beautiful, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the owner very helpful. Everything one would want from an overnight stay.
Kitchen is small if there would be a lot of guests. They could put in a bigger basin. Peacocks are noisy, but it doesn't bother me.
Would be good if equipment is properly checked before guests enter the accommodation units.
Would only recommend it to "regular people".
Our family had a sleepover on the way on vacation. The rooms are very neat, the kitchen was just not well equipped. Not one whole/sharp steak knife, not all necessary cutlery. All the animals there are very cute for the children.
Very good location in a nice area. Cottage comfortable but clearly not looked after before our arrival. Bedding was not changed, rooms and drawers in kitchen not cleaned. Not a friendly reception. Nothing in the house made you feel welcome.
The room was tidy. The duvet did have stains and the communal kitchen just didn't have enough crockery to service all the rooms and there were no towels laid out. It worked for us who were just looking for a place to sleep for the night.
Very beautiful surroundings, if you love the Karoo this is the place to be. The cottage was well furnished, the air conditioning a bonus, just a pity the showers were not clean and the linen and towels in a terrible condition. We enjoyed the walking route, but would also have liked to have ventured on it with the promised bicycles that apparently should have been at our disposal. There were only children's bikes available. Would love to visit or recommend it again but alas!
House: comfortable but dusty and the cabinets inside and throws on beds aren't clean, throws have stains. Cupboards dirty and full of dead insects. Kitchen equipment: missing standard necessities such as a "cutting board", we got one. Drying rack full of fat. Environment polluting with building materials, everywhere is field wire which is dangerous to hikers and animals. Area right next to campsites filled with iron and junk, dangerous old windmills and broken climbing frames etc. for children to play on, very dangerous. Dam full of rubbish and wood cable rolls, unsightly. Animal shelters dirty and odor is not acceptable. We walked through the reserve on foot and were disappointed that the beautiful nature is so polluted with building materials and household waste, bags and polystyrene containers, bottles, etc. Please people, it's a nature reserve, make sure that humans do not destroy nature. We understand building material must be there, but put everything in a separate are etc., and ensure that the rest of the areas are clean. Remember, cement piles that are like hard rock are also litter. We would love to visit again and hope to see a nature reserve that is a 100% clean .
The route directions are unfortunately problematic. Notice board on N1 seems to have been removed for some time and also could not contact owner on phone numbers. Apparently overseas. Alternative arrangements had to be made out of necessity. Is provided with coordinates but only useful if GPS is available.
The farm atmosphere is lovely. The reception was disorganized and rushed. Not particularly friendly. The facilities are neat on the surface, but when you get into bed you find that the bedding is not clean. The double bed was broken. Just slept on the floor. At the end of a wonderful holiday it was just disappointing.
It is situated on a plot some way outside B-W . There are a number of units in the main building. very rustic. Also a rustic swimming pool. Would be fun for young children as there a a number of animals there.
Although a farm should have many animals, the geese in the camp near the bedrooms were disturbing to us at night and early morning. The room and beds were neat and clean. The campsite actually looks nicer than the rooms. For an overnight stay and departure the next morning, the rates are reasonable and value for money. However, if you want to stay longer, I would not recommend it.
Firstly let me just say that the establishment really needs to be upgraded. The showers, while absolutely huge, messed water all over the bathroom floor, likely the extra towel on one of the beds we were able to use to soak up the water. Bed linen needs to be replaced. Not well laundered at all. Stains on the duvet covers, which automatically makes one wonder. Took an age to get hot water, clearly a huge concern with the current water situation countrywide. Would not stay at the establishment again.
Door cannot lock, shower dark and window give no natural light with electric bulbs hardly giving light. Mattress must be replaced with base. No happy stay.
Would stay there again anytime.
This is a place I would recommend for sure. Friendly reception! Place is very neat, beautiful view and animals that walk around the house are just too cute! Recommend the place to everyone.
The owners are very helpful. Equipped with all the basics for overnight stay. Wonderful green grass and shade trees in the hot Karoo.
A very quiet place ideal for an overnight stay.
We were received very kindly. Very clean and tidy! Would go back anytime.
Capricorn is a gem. The accommodation exceeded our expectations and Dries is an excellent host. Will stay here again for sure!
Lovely place and very friendly staff.
Oh I wish we could stay longer! It was delicious, and as a bonus we had the privilege of getting rain at night in the drought-stricken Karoo. The Karoo remains a piece of heaven. The accommodation is beautiful, clean and has everything you need. Enjoyed the night sounds so much. The peacocks and kid are beautiful! Thank you for your kindness Dries! Definitely worth a visit again.
Positive: Contacted owner and asked if we could still check in after 11, traffic accident reversed our travel plans. Negative: No hot water on arrival or departure the next morning, the writing on the wall says the hot tap needs to run for a while before it gets hot, but after 10 minutes we gave up.
After a long drive, feel the calm wash over you with the peacocks and animals all around. Will definitely stay there again.
Good service and very quiet.
Wonderful accommodation 10 km before Beaufor West. A peaceful Karoo stay with tame animals roaming about. You can indulge in the tranquility of the farm and it is very safe.
A beautiful place to visit again for sure.
The place it exceptional, there is the cutest animals walking around and it is very private.
Room, bathroom and kitchen very good. Animals on a farm create a special atmosphere. Reception was excellent. Thank you very much.
The stay was wonderful, service was very good. Lekke relaxes for the onward journey home.
Lovely overnight stay at Steenbokkie with more than 8 pieces of wood to get a "Bosveld/Karoo TV" going under a heavenly blanket of stars. The silence was charming and the unit was nice and spacious and perfect. Thank you very much for your hospitality!
We really enjoyed it, thank you.
We really enjoyed our one night at Steenbokkie. Everything was very neat and clean. We were also very warmly received. All the animals on the farm are wonderful too! We will definitely stay at Steenbokkie again!
Friendly people and safe. Nice farm yard with animals and nice grass for children to play on. Can recommend place 100%.
We stayed in the family room. It was peaceful, childfriendly, neat and it felt like home. The animals on the farm was an absolute bonus. The kids enjoyed the excitement of the animals after the long time in the car. We definitely recommend Steenbokkie, especially for families with little kids.
We spent the night there on our way to Kimberley from the Cape and also on our return. Very peaceful environment. Real farm atmosphere. Rooms clean and tidy and very nicely decorated. Especially the bathrooms! Will definitely stay there again because the price is very reasonable. Red sofa in living room (by TV) just very uncomfortable but maybe not too big a problem either, because who wants to watch TV when you can rest!
It was absolutely excellent. Terribly neat and very very comfortable. These rooms are extremely comfortable with air conditioning. We had a great time and would definitely recommend!
Definitely recommended as an oasis in the Karoo en route to the southern part of the country. Beautiful facilities, wonderful hospitality.
We received a warm welcoming. We were on our way to Cape Town and we were looking for tranquil overnight accommodation. Affordable price and we really had a lovely time. Will definitely be returning for a longer stay.
Accessible from highway. A very warm welcome from Dries. Comfy beds and great setting.
See stars.
Lovely, hospitable accommodation. Really like the open air and these are comfortable self-catering units and very tidy. Easy to find.
Reservation went smoothly. Great environment. Great, clean place. Would stay here again when we're in the area.
A very nice place, the animals are well looked after, the environment is very neat, room is neat, stylish and customer service is good and friendly.
As always Steenbokkie was our first choice for staying in Beaufort-West. The reception is always friendly and honest, the accommodation and facilities are tasteful and in keeping with the area where we felt very much at home.
If we could make something better it would be the placement of the coffee/tea tray. It's a bit awkward like that on TV. Maybe put it in opening by window where the small table is. Just a suggestion.
Your directions are not correct, there is no sign from Three Sisters before Beaufort West pointing to Steenbokkie. There is a sign in the town pointing left to Steenbokkie which is a shorter dirt road and which is beautiful. You will have to fix it.
Very friendly reception and we felt at home immediately. Peaceful night's sleep. Woke up refreshed and immediately headed to nature and wildlife.
Steenbokkie is a beautiful place with silence and a farm atmosphere around you.
We slept here on the way to and from our vacation, and it was very comfortable and peaceful. The animals and friendly atmosphere immediately made us feel at home and the stay was very comfortable, especially with our baby with us. We had no neighbors, just a few goats that came to hang out on the grass in front of the house at sunset. Will definitely be back.
Easy to find and option to avoid the longest stretch of gravel road. Just about 200 m from the gravel road. Directions are easy to follow when you receive the information. The staff called us to confirm the directions. Beautiful accommodation and would like to stay there for longer in the future. We would stay there again and recommend it. Would also love to braai there in the future as the fire looked so cosy.
Excellent value for money.
The host went out of his way to make us feel at home and the accommodation was neat, in a very pretty and tranquil area.
A lovely place with everything you'd need, from aircons to electrical blankets, a must for someone looking to breakaway from the city's noise, or if you just want to relax.
Everything was neat, clean and safe. Will definitely stay there again.
Truly a nice place to stay over for one or more nights. The aircon in the cottage helped a lot against the terrible heat. The swimming pool kept the kids occupied for hours, and that's not even to mention the tame deer and other animals freely walking around.
Enjoyed the tranquility of the animals and beautiful greenery in the arid environment. Very neat and quiet.
Great relaxing under the trees. Accommodation was adequate. However, bathroom and living room can be upgraded.
We just stayed overnight on our way to Cape Town. We were very hospitable and received kindly. Will stay there again.
I booked Steenbokkie because it is on the N1 to and from George. It was a nice overnight spot and I would love to camp there for a day or 3. I just want to ask them to have a look at the communal kitchen: only one of the hot plates was in working order and the microwave doesn't have a plate.
Beautiful green place in the Karoo, many trees, many farm animals quiet and peaceful, all the basics are there too. Spacious units, free wood bring the chops here you have to grill. Cute camping site good alternative to Karoopark, festival for children. Small piece of dirt road not too bad to entrance. The farm road is just a farm road, slowly over the stones. You can also turn off directly from Drie Susters on the N1, just before the airport without having to drive through Beaufort-west to the Aberdeen road and thus cut the corner, it is +- 5km dirt road, however, was in good condition. Ask your host for directions and about the condition of the road.
Very nice spacious rooms and beautiful furniture. Spacious showers, air conditioning for summer and electric blankets for winter are a bonus. Enjoy for "goat" and other animals that come to visit. Just the place if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and look at the stars.
We had a great stay and the house is nicely furnished. All that would bother me, if I were to stay there with two other people, is the fact that there is only one bathroom leading off the master bedroom. It can be quite uncomfortable. But for two people the house is very cute and comfortable.
After a long journey Steenbokkie was a treat. We will definitely visit again.
Very nice. Will stay there again.
Thanks for the friendly reception. Room was very neat.
Directions from Beaufort West can be better. There is no direction to the Nature Reserve from the town.
Steenbokkie Nature Reserve was a very beautiful place with friendly owners.
It was a pleasant stop that was a nice distraction for the children on our journey between the Cape and the Northern Cape.
Beautiful there, surrounded by Karoo. The children could also feed some of the animals - there were springbok, boer goats, dopers, ponies, sheep, pigs, peacocks, rabbits, baby cats, beautiful swans and more. Place well equipped.
We were well received by the staff. We were shown to our rooms and the accommodation explained. The staff were very friendly and courteous. The rooms were clean and neat and everything we required was available.
Quaint little place. The tame buck, zebra, horses etc. grazing around was wonderful for my boy. Beautiful rooms.
We had a stopover at Steenbokkie en route to the Cape. Peaceful atmosphere with farm noises. Room and bathroom neat, clean with enough water for a lovely shower. Nice welcoming and we can recommend it to people with children - more than enough place to play and all the lovely animals.
Susan, thank you for the excellent reception. Nice and quiet in nature. Really an oasis in the Karoo. Hiking trails were fantastic. The weather was good. Nice to see all the animals. Will help if each room could have a bar fridge and microwave. Will definitely be returning. Thanks again.
Had a great stay, very cute place with playground for busy kids.
My children really enjoyed all the animals. We just had an awful lot of mosquitoes.
The peacocks, bucks, ducks, geese and sheep on the farm make it fun.
Was a pleasant, peaceful, holiday, farm atmosphere.
We slept at the guesthouse in town. It was one of those old fully furnished houses (with high ceilings) and has been beautifully restored with 3 spacious bedrooms. Everything was neat and clean. We would definitely recommend it to someone who wants to stay there for a day or two.
Cute stay. Children enjoyed the animals.
Neat, helpful staff.
Good reception, friendly staff. Very peaceful with farm atmosphere.
We enjoyed our time there. I was so nice to wake up to the sounds of birds and animals. The owners were very friendly. We had everything we needed. Will definitely visit them again. It is a beautiful place for people with children who are not used to farm life.
See rating.
Not 100% self-catering, but communal kitchen. A bit inconvenient. Bathroom large enough to split for a kitchenette. Bathroom bar doors annoying. Curtain would work better. Otherwise very pleasant. Few chairs on porch and outside.
The air-cons in every room is the biggest bonus and also the opportunity to end a tired 5 year old's day with feeding the farm animals. A refreshment.
See the stars.
A peaceful, very quiet farm atmosphere with all the facilities for an overnight stay.
The direction given by TravelGroundcaused us have to make a very long detour to get to Steenbokkie. From the N1 the turnoff should have been at the sign "Kleinhoewes" it is only after turning at this sign that the Steenbokkie signboard appears. After phoning Steenbokkie we had to travel all the way back to Beaufort West to find our way. We arrived after dark and the reception office was dark, but on ringing the bell we were greeted very friendly and the accommodation was very good.
Enjoyed Steenbokkies. Outside entertainment area was nice. Rooms a little old and some of the beds need replacement. Also some construction waste on the premises they could pay attention to.
Kitchen facilities are not up to standard for self-catering facilities. Short of a very good cleaning.
Loved it, but the pots that are in the middle of nowhere and right at the entrance of the door cost us an excursion to the hospital with 4 stitches! So it's a security issue!
It consists of a farmhouse with many rooms. There is no fridge in the room, but you have to go and use a fridge that is used by all the visitors away from your room. The barbecue that was provided was broken and we could not therefore barbecue on the lawn. Luckily there was at least another building's braai outside. For the same rate we stayed in many nice places. There are many peacocks and at 05:00 everyone is woken up by their noise and when they think you are not asleep yet, they jump on the roof which of course makes a lot of noise.
All I can say is that there was a lot of dust.
This place has potential but the receptionist who gave us the key didn't accompany us to our room. We didn't lay eyes on the owner. The patio at the braai was dirty, cigarette butts everwhere. What the website doesn't show is the that the patio has a view of the junk yard about 100 meters from it. Some of the cushions on the easychair are torn and those that aren't are really worn. The interior was fairly clean and the furniture are very old and tidy, but you had to press pieces of paper into the gap between the cupboard door and the side to keep the cupboard door closed. I have to add that we got some great sleep on the double bed. When we asked about the game drive we were told the owner doens't allow it anymore and the only game we sawe was a few steenbuck at the unit, a few deer, and a lonely zebra at the gate when we arrived.
Room was clean, but bedding neither ironed nor washed. The braai area hasn't been dusted in months and there were spider webs everywhere. The little animals cute but the veranda full of droppings so that you have to be careful not to step in it. Toilet next to kitchen doesn't have a lid or bin and is dirty or so stained that it needs to be replaced. Service was good, though.
The furniture is dirty. The double bed old. I had to remove loose tiles in the master bedroom so that a visually impaired person wouldn't fall over them. The bathroom was also dirty.
The owner was informative and friendly. It was nice to have the cottage to ourselves. We realise that Dries has no control over the weather but to get up in the morning to no electricity or water was rather disconcerting.
We discussed. Made sure of the reservation a day in advance. When we got there, our name was not on the list. Asked for and got deposit back and they never see us again.
We were unhappy to hear that we had to go into a different unit than the one we booked. We booked cottage 1 for a reason and upon arrival the owner informed us that the units swapped, without informing us about it before hand.
The advertisement is misleading and the place wasn't clean.
Nothing to complain about. Saw animals and they are no danger. Dam is clean to swim in on the premises. Terrain is clean and neat.
Very nice place. Will go back.
The people are very friendly. Peaceful atmosphere. Great after a long day on the road.
The place is a gem in the Karoo and Dries is the perfect host. A real oasis in a 'desert' with clean rooms, beautiful lawns and hospitality which is unequaled.
It was very quiet and peaceful, only farm sounds, and even the animals were friendly. This was the start of our vacation and our first stop. We were able to relax and finish to enjoy the rest of the holiday. Dries and his wife were very friendly and helpful.
Would like to stay over at Steenbokkie for more than one night. It's calm and quiet.
My husband and I spent a relaxing 4 days and we loved it. We relaxed, went for long nature walks and really enjoyed the serenity of the Karoo. Enjoyed Karoo lamb sausage and chops and the stars are amazing.
Good, clean and peaceful animal kingdom accommodation, large shower in sleeping area with lots of space, full DStv and very clean. Would recommend any traveler who loves wild and domesticated animals to stay there. Comfortable kitchenette and braai areas to use. The staff are very friendly and helpful and very honest, would recommend to any person or family.
Our overnight stay was really great. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful nature were striking. Very neat and well equipped chalet!
Vriendelike personeel, amazing view van die sonsopkoms, baie oulike diere (soos die springbokkie Bokka) en 'n lekker tyd.
Had a lovely braai. And slept warmly.
I will recommend the reserve for families. Children will enjoy it and parents can relax in the knowledge that the little ones are safe.
We had a good stay in a farm-like atmosphere. Will make use of Steenbokkie again.
It was a very pleasant experience. We enjoyed it a lot.
Please see our rating.
Friendly reception! Clean and tidy! Slept well!
After a long day on the road we were welcomed by the friendliest Karoom people from Steenbokkie. Was dumbfounded with the facilities of the chalet where we spent the night. Would love to spend longer there in the future. The Karoo silence and one night was too little. 10/10!
It's a very cute place and there are many cute animals walking around the place.
I found Steenbokkie Nature Reserve very pleasant, clean rooms, nature, animals en fresh air. I will surely return to stay if I travel through Beaufort again. The owner is pleasant and we enjoyed the farm. Altough the swimming pool is not working anymore it made no difference.
Great excitement for my granddaughter who was able to feed the farm animals.
Very pleasant. It is ideally located and also interesting.
The layout ensures privacy but also empathy with the environment. The friendly reception and continuous concern for one's comfort soon makes you feel very much at home. We have stayed at many places in Beaufort West and have now discovered our only destination for future visits.
Very safe and thanks for the air conditioning in very very hot weather.
Friendly reception. House was clean and neat. Peaceful farm atmosphere.
Excellent service and friendly. We didn't expect to find this much beauty and tranquility at an overnight spot. The units were very neat and well-appointed and pretty! Obviously a passion of Dries and his family. Pity we couldn't stay longer. Will definitely be back and I definitely recommend it.
This is now my fourth time that we spend the night there. Twice in the caravan park. 1 time in the rooms and 1 time in the chalet. It's incredibly nice there. The animals around you are incredibly nice. It creates a peaceful atmosphere.
Perfect overnight stay for a family with small kids. Great to see all the animals. The only bad thing was that the DStv did not work and the water pressure in the shower was not very strong. Recommended.
We were 4 adults and a grandchild that slept over here and found it to be extremely pleasant. One shower had trouble with draining and one bed's headboard was cracked, but we reported it and they said they'd fix it. I will recommend Steenbokkie anytime.
We were surprised when Dries took us to a large cottage standing alone to spend the night. All the amenities you need were available. He was very hospitable and also allowed us to do a game drive with our vehicle. Will go back again if we take the long way. Good service.
The friendliness, hospitality and helpfulness overwhelmed us and we will definitely stay there every time we travel in that area.
We were only there one night. Arrived in Beaufort West after dark and therefore drove to Steenbokkie in the dark. We were kindly welcomed and were pleasantly surprised with the cottage in which we stayed. There were two bedrooms, each en suite, with even a coffee percolator (and coffee) in the kitchen. The next morning I was greeted by the vast Karoo landscape with deer walking and grazing through the barren veld. I would stay here again.
It was particularly beautiful and peaceful. Just what one needs after a long journey.
We only spent the night there but I feel it was very good value for money. The rooms were neat with DStv and A/C, plus the bathroom was nice and big and very clean. We went for a spin in the reserve early in the morning with our bikes before we hit the road and saw lots of wildlife. It was nicely located close to town for us who just wanted to sleep over on our way to the Cape and I will definitely return for a longer period.
What a wonderful experience! It was absolutely fantastic to sleep over here - a tame springbok welcomes us. Wild goats roam among us. An experience to jump into the pool in the Karoo heat. And all the farm animals and the big turtle. Had a truly blessed time!
The only negative aspect is the directions to the reception. We arrived there in the dark and then it isn't 100% clear. Otherwise everything else was great! Will definitely stay there again. The room was very neat and convenient. The bar door at the bathroom sometimes caught me off guard, but it isn't disturbing.
Beautiful surroundings and neat, comfortable rooms. Service was very friendly. Would actually like to stay longer than one night to be able to appreciate the animals and nature.
Very peaceful and beautiful scenery. Good value for money.
My first experience with both LekkeSlaap and Steenbokkie Nature Reserve. Very good service at both. Easy to find spot on the dirt road, peaceful farm environment and farm animals. Unfortunately didn't have a 4x4 to drive on the reserve's roads and look for wild animals, but had a nice walk around.
What a great place. Quiet around a fire, nothing gets even close to that! Tasteful, clean room. Will go back.
Very beautiful part of the Karoo. Excellent accommodation. Will definitely recommend and call again.
We will stay there if ever we have to. Try to get there in the light. If Chris did not phone us to indicate direction, we would have lost out way for sure.
Lovely place to live with beautiful farm animals. Feel free to visit the rest of the farm for plenty of game.
If you enjoy the farm and the outdoors this is the place for you.
Rooms tidy with beautiful durable old furniture. Mattresses are firm and beds sleep wonderfully. Freezer and fridge facilities available for rooms. Children will enjoy farm animals and domesticated wildlife.
Highly recommended, especially if staying overnight, the tranquility and karoo evenings calm you down after a long day on the road. The owner is also always there to make the stay as pleasant as possible.
Conveniently located off the N1. Comfortable units and lovely camping site.
Warm welcome and relaxing atmosphere on a game farm in the Karoo. Would stay here again.
Nice room with aircon and TV just to relax after a long drive. Some animals for the kids to enjoy. And nice braai area to just relax.
It was lovely to have an overnight stop with places to wander around in and not be confined just to the accommodation.
Good value for money with a peaceful farm atmosphere. The room is adequate for an overnight stay, but can the mattresses be replaced? Friendly host.
The perfect location to divide your journey south properly. Super friendly hosts and the farm environment helps you switch off and relax, which we all really need when we're on holiday. Take some time to say hi to the farm animals.
Great relaxing place after being on the road for a long time. Will definitely go back!
Feel free to see the stars.
Rooms well equipped.
Quiet neighborhood, very safe. Service and friendliness of management is exceptional. They go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We will definitely call there again for accommodation.
Excellent communication between myself, LekkeSlaap and the owner. Very professional service, thank you.
Accommodation was excellent, and we had a blast. Value for money.
Wish the place was closer to Pretoria, so cute.
Neat and clean room. If you like tranquility this is ideal. Unfortunately air conditioning practically did not work and shower head is hopelessly too low to wash hair. Most important is that curtain in front of window in the bedroom should get a lining or full curtain, as it is in front of the parking and everyone can see.
No problems encountered during our stay at the Steenbokkie Nature Reserve.
Something I can suggest, not complain about, is that room number 1's shower is very dark on the inside. The bar swing doors are not private. I am not complaining, I am merely making suggestions.
It is a pity that time did not allow us to fully experience the charm of Capricorns. We will without a doubt advise our friends to pay a visit there.
No toilet paper is provided.
We liked the fact that it is outside of town on a farm. Nice and quiet. The unit was nice and clean, with a tame springbok to keep the children busy. The owner is very friendly.
Excellent overnight choice on the way to the West Coast. The tame springbok and other animals favor the experience for children, extremely favorably.
Great accommodation. Would have wanted stools in the unit. Can strongly recommend Steenbokkie.
Great, thank you, from these kind people. Would love to visit again.
We liked the farm environment. The animals walking around are as friendly as the owner. Ideal for a stop-over and not at all bad for the price.
Steenbokkie Nature Reserve is a good place to stay. It is very quiet and you can go for a walk through the nature reserve and enjoy the views and if you're lucky the animals. Perfect place to enjoy the stars as well. It gets rather dark at night! We had some problems finding the place, so if you miss the sign on the N1, look for the sign in Beaufort-West near the petrol station of Total.
Nice outside on a farm, not in a town.
Difficult to find in the dark. A sign at the junction would help. Enjoyed the tame wild animals. Peaceful.
Unfortunately what you see on the internet is not what you get. Extremely disappointed with the smell in the unit, the cracked salad bowl and the rusted braai. Please update your web page with true photos so that future guests are not mislead.
Farm environment is lovely. Housing needs attention.
Ons was glad nie deur bestuur verwelkom nie. Ek moes buite kantoor wag terwyl my sleutels gaan haal is.
The management's manners could improve. The cleanliness is not up to standard (the fridge was still dirty). Amenities were not up to standard.
The accommodation wasn't ready on arrival.
We were told we would have a single bed for our 4 year old as well as a cot for our 3 month old baby, but when we got there we were in a room with only 2 single beds. They then brought us a single bed mattress on which our children had to sleep and my husband and I had to sleep on 2 separate beds. The bed I slept on was downhill so it was not a very good experience. I waited an awful long time for service at the reception too.
The advertisement is totally misleading. Rooms are old and worn-out. TV and air conditioning not in working order. Rooms filled with flies and midge and near pigsty. No warm water. Roads too bad to drive around.
The owners went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The setting is beautiful, it's peaceful and if it wasn't just one night we spent there, it would definitely be the perfect place to relax!
Very animal friendly and a lovely farm atmosphere.
See the stars.
We had a very nice stay. The place is very clean and tidy and the people are very hospitable. I will definitely stay there again.
We were received kindly and immediately felt at home. Very peaceful environment with farm animals - which provide quite a bit of fun for village kids - and easily accessible. Hope they go from strength to strength.
Very friendly reception and was able to help us immediately, even if it was after 10pm. Thank you very much!
Very nice stay, clean neat rooms and beautiful gardens!
We were received very kindly and were given free access to the reserve. Steenbokkie is a place we want to visit again, with a view to exploring the reserve. The only criticism for me as a taller person is that the shower head is low and I couldn't adjust it. We did not mention it to the owners as it escaped me...so it's clear that the complaint was generally not terribly important.
Good value for your money. Slept well among the farm animals. Will definitely recommend them.
Dries went out of his way for an amazing birthday breakfast for my daughter. We had a good time and barbecued. Everything was neat and clean. The animals were too cute. Wonderful scenery with fresh air.
We really enjoyed it. Everything was just right and they turned on the air conditioning for us so that it can be nice and cool when we get there. Had fun watching stars. We will definitely come again.
The house is nice and big and tidy with everything you need for self-catering. There is air conditioning in the rooms and the outside garden is large and tidy.
Cottage was clean and acceptable, however, the location is not ideal on the farm where the daily farm work happens around you and there is no privacy to barbecue separately and relax outside. The geese kept us awake both nights they were making noise all night. We recommend that the owners move the accommodation away from the daily work area so that guests can rest and relax. The goats later became troublesome and it would have been better if they were in a camp where guests could enjoy them in their own time.
The children enjoy the animals, but lawns and 'pool' are very dirty.
Upon arrival we were taken to a house on the farm far from the complex. When we got there we were told that there was a power line down and that we had no power. The owner knew this, but despite that we were taken to the place. The house was not very clean, there were button spiders under the cushions of the chairs etc. Later the owner picked us up and brought us back to the main complex. We got 2 rooms. My children's room was not bad, but our room was a different matter. The carpets were old and trampled, the springs of the bed (which date from grandma's days) were gone with it. We had a difficult night behind us as one constantly rolls to the middle due to the flat bed The place has a lot of potential, with a little plowing back of the profit made it could be a nice stopover. I doubt we will stay there again. I can't recommend the place either. Regards.
Did pay half price but was dropped off in a hunting camp 10 km from the other accommodation. Water from the taps stank so much that we once could wash our hands with it or take a shower. From the reservation, I understood that there is air conditioning, potable water, TV and swimming area. After a full day in the car, we sure didn't appreciate being dropped off at the hunting camp. I don't have a problem at all with staying in a hunting camp if that's what I booked, but as already mentioned, after a day on the road a shower would have been quite welcome. I would have preferred alternative accommodation if I had been aware that there was a problem with the booking. Would definitely recommend Steenbokkie.
The road from the main road is not clearly marked. The drive up to there doesn't look safe at all. You drive through what looks like abanded houses. The place (house) smells. Their are no towel rails (all broken). The shower heads are all built up and sprays everywhere except on you. The curtains are torn. It might be OK for a camper.
It smelled like boer goats were sleeping in the room. Carpets are dirty. Bed was so old that we had to throw the mattress on the floor to have a better night's rest. Accommodation was so poor that we did not use our accommodation on our return.
The place was dirty when we arrived. The shower curtain is mounted with a nail. The curtains fall down when they are opened. The toilet seat is covered with a very old plastic cover. The bedding was full of sweat. At R150 @ person we would have done better than house number 3. We are not full of fiemies, but really if your bathroom is not clean and tidy... stop. Thanks, but no thanks.
