Stuurmansfontein is a place that crawls under your skin! The peace and tranquility you experience with the most beautiful stars in the evenings is irreplaceable. Piet and Charmaine make so much effort to make you feel at home! We are spoiled every day with a freshly baked sourdough bun! It's so nice to also experience the history of the Korbeelhuisies, it's a must for anyone to experience it!
Piece of paradise and solitude.
The experience made possible by Charmaine is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The detail of the furniture and accessories as well as everything to make the stay as comfortable as possible is exceptional. The silence is something I haven't experienced in a very long time. After such a visit, one becomes humbly grateful for the comfort of our own homes.
If you want to disconnect from the real world and experience the true magic of old-world Karoo charm, this is the perfect place, simply spectacular!

Really enjoying staying in an off-grid, quiet and historic building. The place was clean and serviced and the home baked bread was a welcome surprise. The farm is beautiful and perfect for walks and for kids to explore. I'll be back.
What a special building in the beautiful Karoo. The house has been decorated with such style and care with fresh flowers and bunches of herbs. No cell signal or electricity meant we could fully switch off and relax. Thank you Charmaine for making our stay magical!
Incredible getaway in a breathtaking and magnificent tranquil setting in the heart of the Karoo! The Corbelled house has an authentic historical feel, excellently laid out and equipped with all the creature comforts. The hosts were friendly, considerate and thoughtful in making your stay with them memorable! The Stuurmansfontein Corbelled house has something for everyone to do and enjoy whether you are busy bodies like us or just want to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere on the private property to see and enjoy! There are many walking, mtb, and driving routes. The property has a lovely braai area outside enclosed by a "muisbos kraal" with plenty of seating and shelter for both winter and summer with seating where guests can enjoy their morning coffee, sandwiches or evening sundowners from around the fire. In the evening you are mesmerized by the milky way and sounds from the animal's settling down for the night. We will definitely recommend Stuurmansfontein Corbelled house as a must visit for anyone who loves history, the outdoors or who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Can't wait to visit again very soon! Thank you Charmaine for your incredible hospitality and for making our stay magical!

What an experience to be able to stay in the Korbeelhuis: from arrival (and even en route) to departure, everything was perfect - the 24 + 5 km from the main road to Stuurmansfontein was exhilaratingly beautiful, the reception and welcome warm, and the Karoo thunderstorm and raining dramatically. The house (national monument) is beautifully preserved and clean, tastefully and well furnished, and everything needed to live comfortably but authentically is there. Enough fresh spring water, dry firewood, candles and matches and even 2 large rechargeable lanterns to see better at night make life easy; there was ice in the freezer for a tired army. The starry sky, field sounds at night and sunrise are like a 4D movie. My stay away from the hustle and bustle was really nice: being able to relax and live in the moment while thinking about big things. 5 stars!
No electricity or cell phone reception, exactly what we were looking for. Surrounded by the beautiful Karoo with sheep that come to drink water and the tranquility that you will never find in the city. You can hear yourself thinking and the sunset and sunrise are indescribable here. The stars were countless and it was an incredible experience. So if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and just switch off and rest, this is the place for you. Charmaine hung rosemary everywhere which filled the whole place with the most delicious smell and the cottage is very tastefully done with everything you could need. The outdoor shower was an experience and we will definitely come here again to rest.
Stayed at Stuurmansfontein two years ago and it was a very special experience because with no electricity (just gas, candles and lamps), and no cell phone reception and WiFi, and the seclusion with endless Karoo views it is a place of silence , peace, stars and safety without equal. The cottage has been tastefully restored with all the amenities one could wish for, especially the braai area. When the opportunity arose again to stay here, the cottage was fortunately available. The contrast between the brown drought-stricken Karoo of two years ago, which is now so green after the fantastic rain that has fallen there recently, could not have been more dramatic. Charmaine is a wonderful hostess and the basket full of Karoo lamb chops, sausage, salad, bread and biscuits was something special. Stuurmansfontein can be recommended without reservation for an experience without equal.
