Right place for Sutherland's cold.
Beautiful old guesthouse, very comfortable and warm for those very cold winter nights.
I feel we paid too much for what we got. I'm more worried about Sutherland overall. You can't go anywhere for something to eat on a Sunday night. You can no longer wander the streets like before without the beggars and children bothering you. We have been to Sutherland 2 times before and were very impressed but not anymore. One travels quite a distance to get there.
Fifth time I had the privilege of staying overnight at The Blue Moon during a bike race of my spouse. All five times exceeded my expectations. The combination of The Blue Moon and restaurant has no equal.
The Blue Moon guesthouse provided everything necessary for a wonderful weekend. Highly recommended.

Homely atmosphere - it feels like someone lives there full time. Warm atmosphere. Very well equipped. Breakfast was very nice and included - great value for money. Jannie is very friendly with advice about what is available in the town. Not at all hesitant to suggest other restaurants as well. Blue Moon restaurant's food was traditional dishes that tasted amazing.
We had a lovely stay in the comfortable Blue Moon House. Everything was in place and the breakfast was also delicious. Location very good and everything was clean and tidy in the house.

Although there is a water shortage in Sutherland, the owner has a tank in the yard and we were able to have water in the house at all times. In the cold weather we had no problem with hot water either. Breakfast is included in the price, and it was delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend the place. Very good value for money.
Very comfortable with spacious rooms to relax in. Their restaurant also serves great meals! Just 1 suggestion - maybe put up a notice or maybe a potted plant in front of the fireplace to make guests aware that it's not in use. Furthermore, we had a great time. Would love to go again one day.

We stayed in Knock on Wood separate from the main house. The house is neat, but only one of the electric blankets worked and the mattresses are not of good quality - sponge mattresses that do not provide good support. The restaurant was excellent and the service very good - can definitely recommend.
Unfortunately I can't make any recommendations because our booking got mixed up with another couple, and our room was allocated to them. I can confirm that the host gave us other accommodation.
Our cottage in Sutherland was amazing. It felt like being wrapped in a warm blanket among the stars. Excellent accommodation with the very best restaurant meals in the galaxy.

An indoor braai is not a heater and a heater that provides more air warmth is not cool on Sutherland. A nice warm down duvet and electric blanket could not completely compensate for the tired mattress in the master bedroom and other details e.g. mirrors that had not yet been hung by the sinks, insufficient towel rails, a TV that had not yet been connected, a blanket over the table and not a single hanger in the cupboards. We could not use the included breakfast. No information about e.g. the times that breakfast is served have been provided or alternatives offered since the annexe is so far from the main property. Insignificance in itself, but a detail that negatively affected the overall impression. The annex was rather a self-catering unit, a newly built suburban town house just delivered, than accommodation in a guest house. It should preferably be presented as such. Fortunately, we were equipped for self-care. The Blue Moon's Annex is brand new, clean and tidy, but perhaps made available to rent somewhat prematurely and does not at all fit in with the expectations created about The Blue Moon's main house.
