"So much potential, but a sad disappointment."

Beautiful location and well appointed guest house. Owners very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, high mould content in the guest house resulted in a week's of sickness recovering from the stay. Insufficient air circulaton (windows closed all day), no fans and high humidity with average air humidity at 60% - creating a health hazard. Rooms not used are also closed and locked keeping the air trapped and making the guest house feel very inhospitabe (rather charge a set rate for hire versus treating it like a boarding house). Thick carpets in the house and bathroom making the mould smell and incidence worse. Very cold on two days and no heaters (typical weather conditions in the area) or indication on whether the fireplace could be used (although there wasn't any wood provided. Guest needed to ask the next day about this). Interruptions from owners and cleaning personnel for two days of my stay with owners needing to clean and tidy and workers on the property and roof. Understood the reasoning (family emergency) but it was still a detractor from rest. The noise from the roof repairs was so loud that guest had to escape for the whole day from the accommmodation. Really unpleasant. Tiny en-suite bathrooms not practical. Noise from owners living in a connected granny flat (actually part of the house) very disturbing - phone calls, conversations etc and odours of cooking. Felt very strange and inappropriate. Maybe not a problem for a short weekend stay, but not for a week's retreat.

"Easter weekend family stay."

It was a family stay consisting of 6 adult couples and 2 small children. When we arrived we were so impressed - the house is even better than in the photos. The beds were all so nicely made with chocolates left on the pillows and fresh clean towels at the end of the beds. There were 5 rooms to choose from (one with 2 single beds for the kids) and the house was so clean and tidy. It felt as though the family who stayed there had upped and left and we had a complete house with absolutely everything we needed and more. The kitchen is so fully stocked - there is absolutely nothing you cannot find. They left us each bug spray and torches in case of power outages (which we didn't have to use) and there is even a generator should there be load shedding. There was WiFi which we could connect to, and an alarm should we need it. The closed fireplace inside is beautiful and warms up the whole house - we made a fire every evening and Charmaine was kind enough to make sure we had enough wood for our whole stay. I was also delighted to find so many tables and chairs outside as we would spend quite some time on the deck. The wild horses came up to the fence which the children loved and everything in the little town is within walking distance. Charmaine was amazing - answering all my queries before I arrived and even kind enough to leave us a bag of charcoal as we were worried we would arrive too late to buy on the way on our first night. We honestly did not want for anything - even sugar and coffee was provided. Strongly recommend this house - think it is the best self catering accommodation option in Kaapsehoop.
