81 guests' feedbackOutstanding. The surprise in the room for my 85-year-old mother from the books. Breakfast is also excellent.
Fantastic stay. Fantastic view and fantastic food.
From the moment I checked in I felt at home. Staff are top and breakfast was delicious.
We ended our Karoo to Coast weekend at The Point Hotel. Wonderful destination. Although they had water damage the previous weekend, they did their best to make our stay wonderful. The view is absolutely breathtaking, and the chef's omelette is 'next level'! 5 gold stars from us!
Friendliest staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
I really enjoyed it. I was disappointed in the bathroom because I fell on my back after I showered because of a carpet in the bathroom. It could've been worse, but our stay was nice. Everything.
Location is fantastic. Rooms need some attention.
2 years ago I also stayed here. Regressed a lot. Hotel and rooms are in urgent need of renovation. It is clear that nothing is spent on the money here.
Had a great time - time was just too short.
I was worried about the poor reviews, but we had a good experience. Yes, things were rusted with mold spots here and there and the windows and balcony were "dirty", but remember, this place sits literally 20 meters from the Indian Ocean with rocks that cause a lot of sea spray. That being said, the place actually looks pretty good. Yes, the building needs maintenance and attention, but it's no worse than at 2 other hotels I've stayed at in the past year that were also victims of the Covid lockdown. We also didn't even know about load shedding, what or means they are shut down or have power generation running all the time.
Breakfast was not tasty.
Breakfast was included and it was very nice. We had 1 dinner there, and the food was very tasty and well priced. Our view and balcony on the 3rd floor was the best of all. You can just sit and look at the most beautiful sea view. Zipliners slide past your room. People frolic in the water between the rocks. We also went swimming there, water is delicious. Location was really perfect. Would definitely recommend it. Nothing fancy, but everything was clean and tidy.
Positives: The hotel has an amazing location for kids and is on the ocean. Reasonable value for money and staff are very friendly and helpful. Negatives: The hotel needs an overall upgrade and repairs. There is no designated secure parking.
Very reasonable price for the location of the Hotel. Friendly 'staff'. Would have made the stay even more enjoyable if there were no maintenance workers painting and chopping all day. Bar facilities were not available.
We were looking for a "spoil" overnight stop on our road trip back to KZN from Cape Town. We saw the Point Hotel while going through our options. The hotel rooms have stunning views! The hotel is not at all geared up for power outages though. The hotel is owned by a family from India who choose not to mingle with the guests.
The suite was old and the curtains were torn.
Sadly this hotel won't see me again. Let's start with the positives: stunning location / views. Clean bed sheets. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. But the entire place is rundown, tired and in desperate need of a full refurbishment. The hot water runs a nasty brown colour, the decor is basic and very dated, the TV and the deckchairs were broken, everything is rusted and the windows were filthy. The room service staff are badly trained and in the ten days that we stayed there not once got everything right, always missing some kind of basic (no toilet paper, no towels, no restocked coffee, no milk, no soap, etc.) It's a shame because the place has tons of potential to be a fantastic hotel. However, for the price, there are literally hundreds of better options in the area. Avoid.
Parking in public area.
The view is breathtaking and probably one of the best in Mossel Bay. The hotel itself is neglected. The smell of the cleaning products really needs attention, it's really unpleasant. The elevator doesn't work. The breakfast was not up to standard. Unfortunately we will not stay there again.
There were no towels and the porch was dirty.
Twice requested an ironing board and iron. Reception confirmed twice will be at room within 5 min. Never showed up. Staff sit down to breakfast before guests have finished being served. General housekeeping not up to advertised standard.
We had a great stay with a wonderful view of the sea. Unfortunately, there were things that were not up to standard, and this greatly detracts from a holiday. 1. Coffee cups in room were covered in saucers and clearly not cleaned properly with coffee water from someone else's use still in saucers. 2. Sliding door to balcony's tracks are very dirty and have probably not been cleaned for a long time. 3. Base of bed has no covering left and looks very "unwelcoming" on arrival. 4. Towels were not replaced on the second day and those that were removed were not put back. 5. In the bathroom, the fixture for toilet paper and hand towel falls off the walls. 6. Bedding is clearly also in need of upgrading. 7. Curtains hang on the floor and look untidy and no longer clean. Was actually very disappointing to get the room in such a condition. Otherwise we can't complain - staff are friendly and helpful and view fantastic. It made up for what was not up to standard in room 305.
One gets the feeling that they just want to make money and never fix anything.
Beautiful view but unfortunately rooms were only cleaned upstairs. Previous guests' smoking rubbish was still lying on the ground and carpets were full of hair. Bad to hear from your foreign guest if you were hoping for the standards at least like a 4-star hotel.
Falsely advertised and the room services are not up to scratch. And how do you have a lift that's been out of order forever?
The service was poor, although the gentleman at reception was very friendly and apologetic, it's not his fault the place is run down. No contingency plan for loadshedding. No emergency lighting in stairwells. I just pray that there won’t be an emergency evacuation during loadshedding. This was our first and last time, a very disappointing experience, never again. Would not recommend it to anyone.
Unfortunately, the hotel being rated as a 4-star did not meet our expectations. The cleanliness of the hotel and rooms was far below par. Our external sliding door was not able to lock at all. We did not even have the included breakfast as the buffet did not look sanitary or acceptable.
The location of the hotel was fantastic with breathtaking views, but the hotel itself is not looked after and the place smelled. I wanted to stay as little as possible in the hotel itself.
Unfortunately, this was the worst accommodation for the type of accommodation, location and price. It was dirty, untidy, there was a disgusting smell in the corridors. Bathroom was terribly dirty. A dirty and broken sliding door that won't lock or open and close properly, opening onto a dirtier porch. No parking for guests. What a disappointment. Hope that I will get my payment back as we could not stay there.
The best part of our stay was the view! Gift voucher rubbish at place advertised/marketed as 4 star.
Elevator out of order. Dirty room. No milk or menu to order from in the hotel.
The stairs do not work and having been discharged from the hospital 5 days previously, I could not climb stairs. The chef managed to serve me a 'medium fillet steak' as an overcooked, tough piece of leather. Our orders were wrong after waiting an hour. Buffet breakfast had no fresh fruit. Everything out of a tin. Ask for oats. Sorry, no. Bacon so salty it could not be eaten.
And nice breakfast. Nice clean.
Very happy with the hotel and the friendly and helpful staff.
The best break we have ever had as a school group. Location is fantastic, food is excellent and the view is beautiful. We had such a good time.
Everything was awesome. Clean cups and plates with breakfast can only be replenished more. Was a problem both days.
Will definitely visit the point again.
View over the sea was wonderful.
Will definitely be back soon.
Everything was great, staff very friendly and were first to say hello every time, it was very impressive. Breakfast, don't know how to describe it, it was delicious, great variety, plates of food were neatly packed, staff came to ask how you prefer your bacon etc. they went out of their way to make it nice for us. They may and may prepare breakfasts.
Nice location. Beautiful sea views.
Covid has had a negative impact on the tourists. To comment on the appearance of the hotel would be unfair. The rooms were clean, service excellent and the view incredible.
Hotel a bit neglected. Needs renovation. Water pooling on balcony, broken patio chairs. Have a good time though. Excellent breakfast.
It is exactly like the pictures. The people who work there are very friendly and treat all foreign/local customers the same. The only negative comment I can give is that it doesn't indicate that you have to park your vehicle outside. There is no parking for your vehicle. You have to stop in the street and then from 10 o'clock in the evening there is a car guard.
Some of the electrical items did not work. Aircon kicked out power and the lift was broken.
Beautiful sea view, nice breakfast and well located for parents with children.
Not a 4 star hotel.
Nothing bad can be said about the location. It is in one word "indescribable"! The guy at reception was very friendly and efficient but my experience with the staff was a little tarnished when I arrived for breakfast at 07:00 in the morning and it was still being fixed. When I said that reception had confirmed the night before breakfast started at 07:00 the very grumpy answer was "he was wrong" and that was it. The room was completely clean, comfortable, and I slept well. My only major negative is that this hotel was probably built in the 70's and it is really old and a location like this deserves something more appealing. But as the Englishman says "if it ain't broke don't fix it." Will stay here again when I'm on a business trip, no doubt. Would I recommend it to someone who wants to come and stay for a family holiday. Unfortunately not.
See stars
Their breakfast is fantastic. But general repairs to hotel are a problem. Will definitely find other accommodation with good location for the same money that is more focused on quality than Point Hotel. Elevator did not work. Air conditioning did not work and bedding and pillows were in very poor condition.
TV has very limited channels. Elevator is out of order.
The beds were terribly hard, we had to ask reception 3 times to bring us duvets, so I could just make my bed a little softer, as I was participating in the Ironman and needed my sleep. The hotel smelled bad, there was also no food available for vegetarians as the cook who makes it was not on duty for the weekend. Parking was a big problem on Saturday and Sunday, but that was understandable because the hotel was booked for the Ironman event. What we did not appreciate was the attitude with which the receptionist informed us that she did not know that parking had been arranged for the hotel guests. The hotel doesn't have a liquor license, so we couldn't even have a beer after the race. The bathroom cabinet's drawer was rotten and the rooms' floors were soapy. The towels in the bathroom were thin and chipped. This hotel is definitely not a 4-star hotel and attention is going to have to be paid to the appearance.
We went on holiday with my 70 year old mother. The lift was out of order, apparently for a long time and not because of not load shedding. We had to climb stairs all the time with my mother (lived on the top floor) and struggle with the bags up and down ourselves. Maybe if there are old people who struggle with climbing stairs before the booking confirmation mention that there are no lift facilities. The rooms need urgent maintenance. No DStv, only SABC. Definitely not worth 4 stars. Despite everything, the location and view make up for all the shortcomings.
Wellness department could not do any nails, uv light broken. No partner massage possible as advertised. Bath water is brown. Coffee machine from the restaurant was broken. Wifi was very bad quality, mostly unusable.
Poor service and unorganised, especially the reception desk. The person helping me at the restaurant made me feel unwelcome.
Dirty rooms, ran out of coffee and milk. Had to ask for towels, stoep has not been swept for 4 days. Rooms need painting, TV not working.
Although I read some unfavorable review, everything was perfect during our visit. Jeffrey at reception went out of his way to fix everything.
Corridors of hotel were not very clean. Breakfast was nice the next morning. Room and bathroom were nice and clean. Bedding was also neat and clean. Balcony was always wet and couldn't sit there.
Breakfast is probably our own fault, we should have asked if it was included and how it worked. We called reception in the morning, but got no answer. The toilet seat was broken, the bathroom blinds were broken and probably understandable with the restrictions. Room was also tidy, we had to get the on-duty manager to come and set up the TV, because there was no signal. Very little or no maintenance is done there, if you look out from the balcony you only see broken walls and complete decay.
1. The room key was the spare key. The previous guests lost it. 2. The elevator did not work. We should have used stairs the whole time. 3. The WiFi was not there as quoted. 4. A broken glass bottle was found in my children's room. After the place had to be clean. 5. The toilet smelled unpleasant, as if the cleaning agents had not been used. I had to go purchase and apply it. 6. Two of the three outer seats (supposed to be 4) only had two bolts in them. So unusable. 7. The sliding door was off the rail. 8. It wanted to appear as if the minimum staff-on-duty concept was acted upon. The porter is the bar man and waiter.
Customer service and place itself not up to standard.
Honeymoon suite overlooks Spur and the room was not tidy. There is no privacy either, the curtains wouldn't close. Luckily we were able to change rooms.
The hotel stinks and there are black mold spots on the curtains. The balcony and windows are dirty. The water that comes out of the tap is yellow. The bedding looks like it is already 10 years old. I honestly don't know how they got 4 stars.
Excellent location and breakfast is delicious. Mattress was good quality. Hotel needs some general maintenance.
There seems to be a problem with enough bedding. They only made the bed after four in the afternoon. The views and location are fantastic. Walking distance from restaurants. Nice holiday atmosphere.
Only problem is that the TV was not working and there was always nobody at the reception and there is no phone in the rooms. Cleaners did not clean very well the bed was not made up well.
Dining hall is very disappointing with poor layout and feels like a hostel dining hall. With such a beautiful view, they can do much better.
The hotel is a 3 star and not 4 star.
There were problems with our booking. Even though we already booked and paid, they couldn't find our booking.
Room is dilapidated and price is ridiculous for what you get.
We were not informed ahead of time that the lift was not working. My husband is paralyzed in his left arm and his left leg is weak, so the stairs were not an option. They then accommodated us on the ground floor, is the most backward room I have ever stayed in in my entire life, with paint peeling off the walls, window trims off and lying next to the TV, the lining of the curtains in place- place has cracks in it, so much so that it looks like streaks and specks when the light shines through from the outside. No hot water to shower, and the most unpleasant sewage smell that welcomes you when you enter. Never ever again!
Room beautifully redone. Door lock not working and could not be repaired during stay. DStv not working for the 4 days. Towels very old but clean. Staff helpful at reception and during mealtimes, but need more training. Food regularly too little due to big tour group with breakfast. With Christmas dinner certain dishes ran out within 2 hours. Food variation limited with breakfast. Parking not safe. Location excellent and views very nice.
Currently doing renovations that should have happened a long time ago. Place looks messy, elevator dirty, its floor full of cement. No one seems to be in charge at the hotel. The breakfast was probably the worst I have experienced in any hotel. Very little variety, only rye bread, not a single piece of cheese, cold meat or tomato served. At the prices they charge it was really unacceptable. If you cannot provide the full package, you should not charge full price for it.
The garden at the entrance is a disgrace I was embarresed to say that I stay at The Point Hotel. After 2 days they took the bacon, cold meat and some of the fruits away at breakfast . The cutlery is horrible. It looked as if people stayed in the conference room, I think it was the new owners.
This was our third visit to The Point Hotel. The view is lovely, but the rooms are not value for money. The finishings are pathetic even though the rooms were renovated. The milk provided in the room for coffee was off. The mechanism of the safety chain for the door was faulty - it fell of when the door was opened. Staff were friendly, though. The only thing you get here is the view. Take it or leave it.
Had a really good stay. The only suggestion from my end would be that the parking bays should be marked with room numbers to avoid confrontation and unpleasant situations between public and other hotel guests. That would be much appreciated. Thanks for everything, Mr & Mrs Pienaar.
The Point Hotel is so beautifully situated that one almost just wants to sit on the veranda and drink in the sea! Rooms nice and spacious. The breakfast is excellent and dinner was also delicious. Will recommend.
We spent three nights there and it was really, really nice. All that bothered me were the vehicles that played music in the parking area so late at night. The buffet was very nice. I would visit The Point Hotel again anytime.
