Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement; each room has a private courtyard or fenced portion of the garden to separate guests’ pets.
The café on the property serves breakfast and dinner by arrangement and at varied costs and is not licensed, so guests are welcome to bring their own wine. The guest house offers a ‘green room’, which is a quiet spot to read and relax. Secure parking is available on-site.

56 guests' feedbackIt was a quintessential Karoo kuier. The rooms, staff and food were fabulous.
Beautiful, clean and beautiful place and hospitable people! Restaurant excellent.
I had a great stay. This place deserves more than 5 stars. Very friendly and delicious food. You check in as a guest and check out as a friend.
The host was amazing. She was kind and very responsive via WhatsApp. The place was well furnished and felt very cozy.
We were welcomed warmly on a freezing late afternoon - all the heaters were on in our room, and the fire was prepared and ready for lighting. The complimentary sherry was very welcome after a long day on the road, as was the generous dinner. I loved the decor - wonderfully eclectic with lots of quirky touches. I'd be happy to stop over in Richmond again.
Richmond is roughly in the middle between Cape Town and Johannesburg - a convenient overnight stop on the long road. This is my second visit to the Richmond Cafe and Rooms and I can highly recommend it to the traveller. A bonus for me, who arrived in the dead of winter, is the fireplace in the room. This is apart from the cozy atmosphere in the restaurant which, like the room, is very tastefully decorated!
This is the best pampering stay. What a pleasant discovery. The people have warm hearts and a spark of kindness and hospitality, and the food is top notch. We will definitely come again.
As always, a fantastic experience staying at the place in Richmond. The room is nicely furnished and nice and cozy (thanks to Ian who came to stoke our fireplace for us). The food was once again amazing - Simon's lamb curry is legendary. Also have to give credit to Sylvie, who kindly welcomed us at Richmond Cafe and Rooms and was our waitress. Sylvie is a gem! Thank you, we will see you again soon.
Beautiful and stylish accommodation and generous hospitality. A delight.
We always feel so pampered there. The food is delicious, the rooms a feast for the eyes and very helpful and friendly hostess and staff. No complaints. We go back again and again.
Delicious! Well organized.
Charming place to rest after a long drive. Has lovely little spaces to explore.
This place is a gem in the Karoo. I will for sure make this my future resting place if I travel to the Western Cape. The manager is well trained and you feel right at home with her first smile.
The Richmond Cafe and Rooms is a gem. It's exactly what one needs after a long day on the road. They have the most beautiful place and rooms. Richmond Cafe has the most delicious food and famous milk pie. Their Karoo Padstal is also a must see. Proud Afrikaans.
Very nice stay. Would have liked it if there was a small fridge and a bigger bin for all the rubbish from a long drive.
Calming and restful place. Attention to detail, beautiful spaces.
Accommodation was perfect for overnight, stylish and the dinner was very tasty!
A lovely place with lovely decor and friendly service. Perfect if you travel with dogs.
We felt very at home with a warm welcome at the gate and a delicious dinner!
The BnB is just too quaint. It is set in a very pretty part of Richmond. I loved it as there was something just so "Karoo authentic" about it, with some new eye candy at every turn. A small beautifully embroidered chair seat, a glorious Karoo garden and veggie area. A collection of local art, a little gallery with a few designer clothing items on offer. The list goes on. The linen was crisp, the whole vibe is muted shades, but mainly white. The dinner was so yummy. I had the crispy and perfectly prepared lamb chops. My husband had a delicious chicken schnitzel. They are not licensed so bring your own wine! Would really recommend this as a place to stay!
All I can say is, wow, what a gem in the Karoo! We stopped over for the night from Johannesburg to Cape Town and wish we could have 'zenned' out for at least 3 days just to get the full effect of the beautiful lodge and still get to taste all the different yummy food they had to offer in their stunning little cafe full of character. Thank you for a lovely stay! I highly recommend it!
We had a wonderful stay! Our room was nicely and very comfortably furnished. Bathroom amenities and towels were of very good quality. Nice filter coffee and biscuits for early morning. Our dog traveled with us and there was a nice patch of grass for him. Our dinner was top notch! Some of the tastiest lamb curry we've ever had in the Karoo. Richmond, the town, looks really good too. It seems that most people there really make an effort to keep the town beautiful. We will definitely visit here again!
The hosts were the perfect hosts. The food (dinner) was excellent, and the rooms were very comfortable. Our vehicle was safely parked behind locked gates.
Hospitable staff and great service.
Overnight journey from Johannesburg to Cape Town. It was a very cold night that we stayed there, beautiful room with a warm bed, good food and friendly people who received us. Thank you Klaradyn and family.
Klaradyn and her team are very focused on their clients. The atmosphere is calm, artistic with delicious food!
Great stay and fantastic Karoo dinner! Staff waited specially for me to let me check in.
Great accommodation and also for dogs!
Love what Klaradyn has done with the place and the high standards they set there. Definitely a highlight on the way to Cape Town and back.
The place is like a delicious cremation in the middle of the Karoo. Tasteful and unique. Everyone who works there is welcoming. Klaradyn made us the most delicious sandwiches for our bike ride. Attention to detail.
Loved my stay here. The rooms and establishment are beautifully decorated. There was nothing I would change, the staff and owners were helpful and lovely. The best part was that they are very dog friendly; fenced gardens and their onsite restaurant allowed dogs. Opted for dinner onsite, the food and service were both on point. The town was nice for a stroll, with little shops and an interesting-looking museum.
See stars.
Perfect location between the Cape and Gauteng for an overnight stop on your road trip!
The detail and execution of the decor, the food, the service, everything was superb and made our stay wonderful. We will definitely use it in the future when traveling between Pta and Cape Town. Your mattresses are a bit hard. Perhaps check out the Kooi firm mattress at Mattress Warehouse. It's a memory foam mattress, manufactured in SA and very affordable.
A luxurious oasis after a long journey. Fantastic atmosphere and hospitality.
This was our second time at The Richmond Cafe and Rooms. It is a great stopover between Pretoria/Johannesburg and Cape Town. They offer delicious food and lovely accommodation. The attention to detail and decor is exceptional.
Very nice stay here.
The whole place is so tastefully decorated!
Lovely rooms and grounds. Great for dogs. A delicious supper was provided as well. Will definitely stay there again!
Our only problem was arriving in load shedding to a very dark, hot room. I would suggest lanterns and a battery-operated fan.
I was welcomed by a lady called Berna, I think her name was. She is a gem and should be well looked after. She is so pleasant, friendly, informative, and helpful. She made me feel so welcome and she was so attentive to every detail. She assisted me from my arrival until after supper and she treated me like royalty. Thank you, Berna, for being a special soul. The food was out of this world. I have never tasted a lamb curry so delicious. The attention to detail is amazing. The way breakfast was served was an absolute delight. The rooms were clean and so beautifully set out. A person could want for nothing. All the comforts were there from sherry in the room to tea, coffee, water, hot chocolate, rusks etc. Everything was thought of. I would highly recommend this establishment. Loved every moment of it.
It's as if everything Nicol and Klaradyn touch turns to gold. Thank you very much for your hospitality! The place is extremely well designed and furnished, surrounded by a lovely vegetable garden. The pictures don't do it justice. The food is phenomenal (I still dream of that fragrant lamb curry, the sweet tomato and onion salad, the crisp bread and butter). And prices so reasonable, we almost thought there was a mistake somewhere. We cannot praise the Richmond Cafe and Rooms enough. Make sure you visit MAP (a world-class art gallery further down the high street), John's second-hand bookshop around the corner, and, on your way out, the Karoo Padstal about 20km north of Richmond - some of the best omelettes and griddle cakes we've ever tasted has.
I will stay here on my future travels. This place made me feel like a queen.
A little gem of a place. Klaradyn and her staff received us kindly. Delicious food and lovely accommodation. Would love to stay there again.
Perfect stop between Pretoria/Johannesburg and Cape Town. It's very close to the main road. Sylvie and Klaradyn make you feel like old friends with delicious food and visits. The rooms are beautiful and tastefully decorated with old and new. You feel very safe there. Will suggest it for sure!
Accommodation is very neat and clean. Located right next to the museum which is nice to visit with children. Staff were very pleasant and the food from the restaurant was delicious!
Cool people!
This place is a dream! From arrival to departure it was just a wonderful experience. Sylvie welcomed us so kindly and took us to the safe parking space. We could choose between two rooms, both of which were beautiful. Later we enjoyed a delicious three course meal which was made even better by Sylvie's great service and the candlelight & fireplace. The owners, Nicol and Klaradyn came to visit - it made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Breakfast is available at the Vetmuis deli a few meters down the street or at Nicol & Klaradyn's paddock 10km north on the N1. We stopped at the paddock on the way home. What a great experience. These people have passion. Klaradyn kept us up to date with information, load shedding schedules, things to do and so much more. We cannot recommend the place enough! Many thanks Nicol, Klaradyn and Sylvie for an unforgettable end to our holiday.
Exquisite, stylish guest house. Absolutely beautiful. The potty bath with fireplace is unique. We feasted on the fragrant carol lamb curry. Definitely recommend!
Friendly reception with delicious Karoo dishes in the restaurant. Had a nice and luxurious stay. Thank you!
Klaradyn and Nicol are excellent warm hosts. The rooms are beautiful with everything you need for an overnight stay if you're travelling cross-country. I travelled with 2 pets and they were welcome too.
The food, service and rooms were excellent. This is what every overnight stay should be like. Never expected this gem in a town like Richmond. Highly recommended.
Loved our stay at the Richmond Rooms. The decor feels magical, we particularly enjoyed the victorian bath with fireplace. The hospitality is warm but not intrusive, and the food was really out-of-this-world. Best omelette we have ever eaten; we would be back every week for a meal if they were closer. Will definitely be back to stay when we can. This is the best stop-over option if you are driving between JHB and Cape Town, and stay a bit longer to enjoy the town and its art.
Truly precious experience. Was warmly received with open arms. Food was fantastic and a great treat. Had a wonderful sleep and will definitely visit again.
Cute little place. Had a very nice meal at the Vetmuis. Will definitely stay there again. Thank you very much.
Would have liked a breakfast option.
