Beautiful view of the river. Quiet, comfortable, romantic. Beautiful hiking trails in the mountain. We were looking for something unique, The Shire Eco Lodge was perfect.
I'm so surprised at this Eco Lodge, this was a hugely pleasant surprise, gloriously situated and unbelievably unique! Looking forward to our return.
I truly had an amazing experience. Definitely worth it. Only drawback is the condition of the gravel road leading up to The Shire eco-lodge.
Great place to have a peace of mind and tranquility. Would recommend it to anyone.
We had an amazing peaceful time. The cottage was well appointed right next to the river. We mostly went for walks with the dogs and just enjoyed the scenery. The outdoor shower is a winner!
The Eco Shire Lodge exceeded our expectations in every way. The cabin was picture perfect, the location stunning and the host was excellent.
Very unexpected beauty, well kept and amazing location.
It was an incredible experience. It feels like you live deep in the forest and only want to peek every now and then to see if there are any goblins. One is too afraid to speak because you might disturb nature's harmony. The babbling of the stream made it so peaceful. The outdoor shower was an absolute gem. And all the beautiful birds. We will definitely visit there again
These 4 houses were built by Rob and a small team of people and testify to a lot of imagination and the highest craftsmanship. It almost feels like staying in a small ship. Two cottages are half in the forest (and have al fresco showers) and two stand more in the middle of a lawn overlooking the forest. One has a further view of the latter two. We had such a nice stay that we extended the stay by a night.
Our stay was magical. The accommodation was so cute, the facilities included everything we needed and our walk in the forest was beautiful. The puppies were the icing on the cake.
Rob Scott showed me his precious bulb collection and made me an enthusiast. I would go there again tomorrow if I could.
Finish and interior very good. Peaceful with natural forest and water stream at the chalets. Wonderful. Host very helpful.
We had a great stay, great place for a weekend getaway to chill and rest, we enjoyed the outside shower over the stream. The walk through the woods are also a great feature.
The units were well equipped and very tidy, service was friendly and the units and nature are very special and beautiful.
The Shire was something completely different. We really enjoyed our stay, the silence, the incredibly beautiful location and surroundings let you relax, we really enjoyed the hiking trails through the forest and it was beautiful and safe. We also liked the information inside our cottage which told us more about the history and surroundings. The owners and staff were hospitable, friendly and accommodating. We will certainly recommend it to friends and family.
Had a very enjoyable time at the Shire Eco Lodge. Will definitely book again and recommend to friends.
Beautiful, quie tand relaxing atmosphere.
We spent a lovely weekend here. To have a break in nature like this is a privilege. The Shire Eco Lodge is to be recommended.
We were kindly received. We were absolutely mesmerized by the beautiful place. We enjoyed the hike in the native forest.
We had a lovely stay here - the accommodation units are really beautiful, you can see a lot of effort has gone into them. We went for a nice walk the next morning. WiFi available at the main house, friendly dogs and people.
One forgets nature and the animals out there when you stay in the city. Technology is taking over and there is no communication in the households. The weekend did a lot of good for me and my husband and also made time for chatting without mobile phones, laptops, TV etc. We could talk about everything again like before. I really recommend anyone to break away after this. The people are friendly and so helpful.
See stars.
Love this beautiful little house. We will definitely be back!
Good service by the owners. Clean and neat.
Lovely little houses built by Rob himself in a picturesque area! Will definitely come back again.
I will go back there anytime. The place is fantastic. So much peace and nature. Pity we couldn't stay longer, but we will definitely return.
Just wished the weather was warmer, would have like to use outside shower.
The Shire is simply magical. Tucked away in a clearing, surrounded by forest, at the foot of the mountain range, the little, wooden cottages are beautiful! I love the fact that everything was handcrafted by the owners, it just gives them this extra magical feeling. You can feel passion and love that went into creating these marvelous cottages, which are very spacious as well. There are hiking trails available for those who love nature and walks, and it is situated close to Forest Way where there is a picnic area and more hiking trails up to the waterfalls. The Shire, even though it is quite out of town, it is still not too far should you need to get anything from the shops there (taking approximately 15 min to get to any one shop). The nights are particularly magical, in the sense that the night sky is breathtakingly beautiful. I have never seen so many stars in the sky before. We spent the evenings gazing up at the sky, looking out for shooting stars. With the rolling mountains, forests, and quaint little houses, it is aptly named the Shire. I will definitely be making a return visit to this magical place. I loved every moment of it.
Very remote, no lighting and the road was in poor condition. The taps were loose.
Very impressed! Definitely 5/5!
Cute little place with a lovely atmosphere.
The fact that the owner is an active grower of native flower bulbs was an added plus!
Unique wooden house in the natural beauty.
The people are friendly, but the road is a bit bad, like many roads in the country.
The design of the chalets is something special, inside and out. One feels cherished by the interior with its finishes, peaked roof and the exquisite woodwork. That in itself is a work of art! The proximity of the native forest and a mountain stream also creates a wonderful atmosphere of calm and beauty. Beautiful large yellowwood trees, waterfalls on the footpaths and the sounds of many birds add to this experience of unobstructed beauty. The kindness and helpfulness of the owners is the crowning glory!
I only stayed one night and found it ideal. I could go for a walk in the forest paths and enjoy the silence and nature. The unit was well appointed for my needs. I will definitely come again with friends.
Would highly recommend the place to anyone who needs rest. The cottage is so interesting and beautifully decorated. The hospitality is unbeatable!
We had a little trouble finding the place as there was no sign along the road (the original road was washed away). However, we managed by phone. Thank you.
Enjoyed our stay and birding opportunities.
Although we had booked and paid for 2 nights, we intended to stay only one night and then make the long journey back to Johannesburg. But, after arriving at the Shire, we immediately changed our minds and stayed 2 nights. Everyone received us kindly, we bought the most delicious fresh fruit and bread from Rob, the house was clean and tidy, and we went for a lovely walk in the forest at Shire. Can easily recommend it to anyone in the Stutterheim area. Remember to ask for one of the two lodges with the forest showers when you book!
Rob sorted things out for me swiftly. Thanks once again and I look forward to visiting again.
Wonderful customer service, and value for money.
