The Tortoise Shell is a self-catering holiday home located in Marloth Park, a 3,000-hectare wildlife conservancy and holiday town situated on the southern border of the Kruger National Park. Though rustic, the home has every conceivable mod-con to make your stay more enjoyable.
The house can accommodate up to 8 guests and comprises 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a guest toilet; and an open-plan kitchen and living area. Three of the bedrooms have queen-size beds whilst the fourth bedroom has 2 single beds. There is sufficient bedding for the number of guests and towels are provided. Each bedroom has a small double-door cupboard as well as bedside tables and lamps. The bedrooms also have plug-in facilities for a USB port.
The home is fitted with 2 gas geysers. The 1 geyser supplies 1 bathroom, the guest toilet, and the kitchen; whilst the other services the second bathroom. Each bathroom has a very big glass shower, whilst there is only 1 bath. Each bedroom is fully air-conditioned as is the entire open-plan lounge area.
The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and contains a 5-plate gas stove, oven, double-door industrial fridge, freezer, microwave, and cutlery and crockery. For your convenience, we have a dishwasher as well as a washing machine. The dining area has seating space for 8 people, while the lounge has a comfy lounge suite.
There is a large boma next to the splash pool for those typical African bush braais. The boma is surrounded by a ”built-in” bench to seat everyone comfortably around the fire. There is also an undercover braai as well as a separate wood-fired pizza oven for those wonderful pizzas or roasts. Pots and pans suitable for extreme fire temperatures are provided. There is also a gas-fired pot broiler on casters. The 2 indoor kitchen cupboards are mounted on caster wheels so that they can be wheeled outside onto the verandah to limit the trips inside to collect things.
The large veranda table can comfortably accommodate 10 people. It has a bench for the children as well as high-backed chairs for the adults with additional chairs around the dining room table should they be required. The house is linked to Securicon Security Company, so please lock up and arm when you are out. There is a double carport on the property.
The home is fully serviced daily with the exception of Sundays. The lady will accommodate most of your requirements upon request. Should you not require or want her services, please let her know.

It is a wonderful place with everything one needs.
The location is great and offers really good game viewing opportunities. The air conditioners and pool are a life saver in the summer heat! There is more than enough room and the facilities (fridge, freezer, cooking equipment, and beds) are great. The house was spotless, and we will definitely be returning!
The house is very spacious and we really enjoyed the large porch. The pool and air conditioners made the heat and humidity very bearable. The kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge. We were very lucky not to experience any load shedding during our visit as it was lifted over Christmas. Provision has been made to prepare food outside on the stoep with gas. It had been a wonderful treat on Christmas Day to spend time together as a family outside on the stoep and make food. Would recommend anytime.
Everything was comfortable and nice.
The accommodation was well furnished and spacious. The highlight was the visit of the night monkeys during dusk.
I would definifely recommend enjoying a bush stay at Tortoise Shell. We'll definitely be back soon.

We as a group (big and small) really enjoyed the wildlife around the house. Thanks to Busie who came to clean up every day, so we could focus on rest and family time.
The house feels very safe and is cleaned daily. Everything is there that one needs and we really enjoyed it with the animals that come to visit on our front porch.
It's a spacious house with a lovely huge patio and enough seating for everyone at the big table. There's also a built-in braai that was nice to use when it rained. The beds and bedding are comfortable. There's also enough space in the rooms for your suitcases and proper cupboards. The air conditioners also make your stay comfortable on hot days. The dishwasher and washing machine make things much easier. There's enough crockery and utensils, and a bonus of proper sharp steak knives and a '3-poot potjie'. The alarm system makes you feel more at ease. The street can get quite busy, so it would be nice to have a shield from it (and the neighbours). The fridge is noisy and a bit leaky, so it's a bit annoying to step into a puddle now and then.
The house inside exceeded our expectations. There are a few small things that need attention (the living room couches, for example, need to be replaced, but we spent so little time inside, it didn't bother us too much). The kitchen has a lovely large fridge which could keep all our food and drinks ice cold. There is no power during load shedding but there is 1 light in each room and the stove and geysers are gas so we could work around it. The children spent hours in the pool and we really enjoyed the large veranda. The rooms are well laid out with good quality mattresses and bedding, the air conditioning works fantastically and the showers have lovely hot water with good water pressure. The house is located about 4 km from the shopping center which ensures that it is not terribly busy (as it is on the main street I was a bit nervous about this). The owner is helpful and responds quickly if there are any problems/queries. We will definitely stay in Tortoise Shell again!

Second time at The Tortoise Shell and we really enjoyed the break. Had a great time on the big stoep and sat around the boma every evening. The house has everything you need and more. Definitely our favorite cottage in Marlothpark.

Place was nice and clean and Buzzi was very friendly upon our arrival there. The interaction you have with the wildlife that comes to visit the house was wonderful. I will definitely visit there again. Would recommend the guest house to everyone. Ten out of ten.

As old Marloth goers, this stay was the best ever! Apart from the price, the house is incredibly beautiful and well-rounded and well located. Close to centers and Malelane or Crocodile Bridge Gate. Everything clean and tidy. From barbecue under roof, in lapa or pizza in pizza oven, just convenient! Everything you might need is there. Glasses, pots pans, cutlery, everything is there. Will definitely stay here again. Bongi received us kindly and the house was left beautifully clean for our use every day! Thanks again Andrew!
Have stayed in a few houses in Marloth. This one is by far the nicest house! The swimming pool and boma are nice together and the large porch is a winner! Will definitely book here again.
