Whether for a romantic getaway or a holiday for a group or the whole family, Tholo Private Game Lodge is tastefully decorated, and can accommodate up to 10 guests. The Lodge can also accommodate an additional 2 guests on request. The lodge comprises 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a kitchen, and two lounge areas.
Two of the en-suite bedrooms have king-size beds. The other two bedrooms each have 2 three-quarter beds and there are 2 double sofa beds in the second sitting area. The bathrooms have baths, showers and bidets and there are also 3 outdoor showers. There is a guest bathroom with steps leading to the second living area.
The open-plan kitchen is equipped with every modern convenience and is equipped with an ice machine, 2 coffee machines, a stove, a microwave, a fridge, as well as cutlery and crockery. A washing machine, and a tumble-dryer, are also available for guests to use. Guests can relax in the living areas which are equipped with a Satellite TV and Netflix.
Indoor and outdoor cooking facilities are available, and catering can be arranged on request at an additional cost. A chef is available on request. Full board and half board options are available. Housekeeping, and a private game-viewing vehicle is also available at an additional daily rate. Guests can cool down in the swimming pool, relax in the Jacuzzi and enjoy the view of the surroundings.

Tholo Lodge was fantastic. The house is incredibly beautiful, large and has everything you need for any getaway. The owner, Lynette, was always available and helped us with extras on short notice without any problems. We were welcomed by Andrew who took us through the house and explained where everything was and how everything worked. After that he even helped to unload our vehicles and take everything into the house. Andrew was also our personal chef for breakfast on Saturday morning and he was extremely professional and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and the whole group enjoyed it. Everything and everyone at Tholo Lodge is amazing and exceeded our expectations. We did a game drive through Mabalingwe itself and not through Tholo Lodge. Our guide had even heard of Tholo Lodge and also said that he had only heard good things about the Lodge. He also said that he knows Andrew and that Andrew is a very good person. We would definitely recommend Tholo Lodge to anyone. You won't regret it at all and you can be assured of a wonderful getaway. Regards. WRB Ladies.
The accommodation exceeded all expectations. The unit is very spacious with every amenity you could possibly want. We were a large group with teenagers and a toddler. Everybody was entertained. The braai area, pool and jacuzzi are all well integrated and part of the house. The inside braai area and covered gas braai make cooking possible in any weather. The unit is completely isolated and is surrounded by beautiful nature. We had a fantastic long weekend and will definitely return. I would, however, recommend renting a vehicle or having a 4x4 if you are not planning to only lounge by the pool. The trek down the side of the mountain is very rocky.
Everything great except no modifications to the lodge. It's 30 minutes from the gate, on a dirt road with no signs pointing to it. It is not even on the Mabalingwe map.
We had a very nice stay. However, the house needs basic maintenance such as e.g. water that runs out very slowly in the sinks and showers. The showers need shelves to e.g. to be able to put shampoo on. The electrical connections on some of the lights need attention. Overall I would recommend the house, nice and spacious with good facilities.
Tholo Game Lodge was a treat! Very private and set up for luxurious relaxation and entertainment. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Only complaint is we couldn't stay longer!
Had a few issues with the inverter during load-shedding, so struggled with electricity and hot water during load-shedding, but the rest of the stay was amazing.
Water and other problems made our stay unpleasant. With little understanding from our host.
No request on our part was too much trouble for Lynette, the detail and attention given was incredible. The house is stylishly and luxuriously furnished with anything you can think of. One night was hopelessly too short to be able to enjoy and appreciate everything! Thank you Lynette, we will definitely come back again!
What an incredibly nice experience, beautiful house and excellently equipped. The view is beautiful, can really recommend for a well-deserved rest with the family. The silence is incredible and then all the visitors at the watering hole are the icing on the cake!

I really loved the place is value for money but they must fix thier trapping electricity issue
Our family group had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay at Tholo lodge for almost 10 days, thank you! The house is more luxurious than I expected and more than fully equipped. The house worked equally well for the toddlers, elderly and others in our group. There are enough rooms/beds, only one small step on the deck, the splash pool was deliciously warm and covered with a net. It was handy that little kids couldn't get to the deck/house by themselves (as long as the front and back doors were closed). The cleaning lady was reliable and cute. The TV and WiFi were handy. It is of course a holiday home in the woods, so a bit dusty in places, a few lights etc. that didn't work and some 'critters' in the house. But we could easily get hold of Lynette and she fixed what was needed/what they could. With more proactive management, some of the problems could have been prevented (eg water tank empty, wildlife vehicle left dirty by previous guests, no light at braai area). Note the dirt roads in Mabalingwe are very bad; a sedan is really not recommended and visitors to Tholo Lodge should be made aware of this. Also note that there is no longer a snooker table in the house. We suggest hanging nets over the beds and making the step on the deck more visible with something like safety tape. Overall we were satisfied and enjoyed the visit.
Upon arrival no water the first day, air con did not work, although it was said that a technician would come out and no one showed up, all doors could not close. Breakage refund not yet received back.
It's a stunning place and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We slept well and hung out there. On Saturday we unfortunately experienced a bit of chaos. The game drive we had ordered and paid for for the day was not working. After a long struggle and hours of waiting, they had to bring us a new one because the current one had no gas, nor did it work. It overturned our whole day's planning and driving around. The maid who cleaned also just washed dishes and left the whole place on. We had to call to say that our beds were unmade, the rest of the house was left dirty etc. But it's a beautiful place and if only such obstacles are sorted out, it will be amazing!
Beautiful house with potential, but is not worth its tariff, because with such a tariff you would expect that everything would work perfectly, but it doesn't.

House rules
- A game drive vehicle can be hired at an extra cost per day. Guided game drives are available at an extra cost for a two hour drive. Please advise should you require this service.- Please note that there is a gravel road leading to the accommodation. Guests are required to enquire about the condition of the gravel road before booking.
- Tholo Lodge does have an inverter/back up power and will keep the lights on, wi-fi going during loadshedding. It's however important to note that whilst every measure has been taken to supply water and electricity to the property, we are still dependent on water from the Mabalingwe Game Reserve. During certain stages of loadshedding the reserve may not always be able to fill all the water holding tanks to full capacity and there might be short periods of limited water during loadshedding periods. We can unfortunately not be held liable for such occurrences and guests will not be compensated should this occur.
- Rubbish to be kept in the lodge or bins provided, and rubbish will be removed when housekeeping services are booked.
- Please refrain from moving furniture around except for pool loungers and folding chairs. This damages the deck
- All doors and windows to be closed when not in residence.
- All windows to be closed and all doors to be locked on departure.
- Lodge keys are not allowed to be removed from the property and have to be locked in the key safe, even if you are going on a game drive.
- Fire is only allowed in the designated areas; braai and boma.
- Firewood for the boma and braai area can be pre-ordered for delivery at the lodge at an additional cost per bag.
- No firewood to be collected from the veld
- Beer bottles, caps, cigarette butts etc thrown in the veld will be cleaned at a charge of R500
- Any damages caused by non-adherence will be charged to guests directly.
- Some roads in the reserve are not tarred, and it is recommended to use a vehicle with a high clearance when possible.

The management of Mabalingwe Nature reserve and the board, owners and agents of Tholo Lodge, do not accept liability for loss, damage or inconvenience caused by animals, weather conditions, injury, power cuts, loadshedding, fire or theft of any kind.
