We had a very nice stay.
Extremely disappointing that we were immediately informed that we are not allowed to drive through the game reserve. We specifically chose the place because it advertises that it is a "Game" farm. You also drive through a settlement to get to the farm, not at all safe at night. No provision is made for load shedding and we are also not informed when load shedding is.
The venue is located on the outskirts of town, and one has to travel through informal settlements to get there. The unit was very basic, with only a bed and two office chairs as seating inside. There was no comfortable couch to sit on inside. Two plastic chairs with a table outside were the alternative. The landlady was not very friendly upon arrival and did not enquire about our stay upon departure. The unit was not cleaned once the entire time we were there, which I don't mind, but if it was clean from the beginning, that would not have bothered me. It's a thatch roof unit and had cobwebs and spiders everywhere. The bed was clean but very old and worn out, and we struggled to sleep comfortably. Overall, the stay was manageable, but I would not book again. We were disappointed and expected more.
Everything was as in the photos. It's awesome. Feel safe, pool is clean, you can keep yourself busy and enjoy. For a getaway and looking for tranquility this is the place to go. For sure.

The farm is really very neat. Lovely gardens and we were able to see the wildlife up close. There are beautiful antelopes and we will definitely visit again.
The accommodation was very clean and equipped with everything you need. Walton in the town's meat is top notch and they sell good braai wood. We saw many new birds and you could walk around in the field.
Santie was incredibly hospitable, I even returned home with a whole nursery. Haven't seen so many different birds in one place for a long time. Accommodation was comfortable and we could have a great barbecue, swim and walk in the field. We will definitely want to visit Santie again.

We really enjoyed our time at Utara. For two city lads it was a much needed break. We had a great time reading by the pool and went for nice walks. Utara's premises are beautiful and Santie has the most beautiful gardens! With the fact that Naboom is only about 2 hours from Pretoria it makes an ideal getaway.

The road to the place does not look good but when you hit the red ground. and turn right into Utara. it's like a paradise. the garden is beautiful. the welcome so friendly. and the accommodation very clean, very spacious. Everything that you need to have a good break.

My granddaughter and I had a great time relaxing. Laid in the pool, read, watched birds and chatted until late at night by our campfire.

This is home away from home - just better. From the moment Santie welcomed us, showed us around, to the moment we handed the keys back to her, we enjoyed every moment. For a couple, family or a group, this is the place to be. You can walk and cycle if the roads are not too wet, or chill next to the swimming pool or under the huge lapa. Braai facilities all over, jungle gym for kids; pool table for dad. Bungalow well equipped, even an air conditioner and a ceiling fan. Big enough to be inside when it rains. I definitely recommend Utara to anyone who want to unwind.

After a long drive from Pretoria it was like an oasis to drive into Utara, immediately relaxing, lovely time by the pool, beautiful garden. The rondavel was neat, linen was nice and clean and for me it was a wonderful experience to relax.
The service from Santie was great. She is friendly and very spontaneous. It's peaceful and if you really just want to de-stress and relax, Utara is the place for you. The natural beauty. Bird life and peaceful atmosphere will make you relax and you will simply have new energy after your stay at Utara.

The accommodation is comfortable, neat, spacious, well equipped and our unit is serviced daily. The garden and trees, layout, the large lapa and pool area are all neatly maintained and a loop court. The hostess, Santie made our stay even more pleasant with extras and care. Liesbet who services the rooms does an excellent job of keeping everything perfect. Utara is only 3 km from the town of Mookgopong-Naboomspruit, well located and for our purposes for a place of rest it was absolutely perfect. It is great value for money. Thank you Santi! If we have to come to the North again, Utara is our only option to stay.

We were very late on Friday night. I let them know we wouldn't be arriving until 9pm. Upon our arrival they were waiting for us and warmly welcomed us. Our accommodation pointed out. It was bloody hot. What a nice surprise to walk into our unit and it was wonderfully cool. They turned on the air conditioning before we arrived. Place was silver clean. 10/10. We had a nice barbecue, swam and just rested. 10/10. Will definitely go there again to relax.
We were warmly welcomed and our chalet was the cleanest place we have ever stayed, even the curtains did not have a spec of dust! It is wonderfully quiet, there is a hiking trail to walk between the wildlife. Braai facilities are roofed.

It was wonderful for us and we will definitely go again because the bird life there is special. The young couple who were with us ticked off 30 new species on their list and we were ecstatic about the European night owl that lives there. Bed linen is important to me and this was excellent. Santie and Hennie were a pleasant host/wife pair. For bird watchers, the farm is a must on your list. They even took us on a game drive.

Utara is a beautiful piece of land with incredibly neatly maintained gardens and facilities. We rode the mountain bikes every day in the wildlife camps and saw a variety of animals each time. We were even able to help feed the goats which my 7 year old son really enjoyed.
We didn't realize it was a hunting farm. Would like to see some animals, but not allowed to drive on the farm with own vehicle. The owner was kind enough to take us with her when she put out feed, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to see anything.

As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted very kindly by the hostess, who accompanied us to the chalet to explain everything. What a beautiful and neat chalet. It made us feel like we landed in a five star accommodation unit. The site is very neat with beautiful gardens and all facilities were at our disposal. Host and hostess were very friendly and helpful throughout. As the saying goes: "Give that man a Bell's" but in this case: "Give them both a Bell's".
Getting to the venue is a let down, not due to the owners of Utara, but the municipality of Naboomspruit. The road passes an informal settlement and there is a lot of garbage on the road side. Look pass this part of your journey and when you get to Utara you will enter an oasis. The grounds are clean and well kept. Green grass wherever you look and the garden layout is excellent. The accommodation is clean and has all the basics that you would need for your stay. A lovely venue for a family gathering. There are chalets and camping sites with ablution facilities. Santie, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. I will recommend this venue any time.
We were kindly received by Tannie Santie. We really had a wonderful weekend, kids enjoyed the freedom and we were therefore able to rest. The cottage and bedding were clean and we enjoyed our stay. If we could we would've loved to stay longer! It is on a farm, so make provision for flies, mosquitoes and moths.

The chalets are beautifully clean and serviced every day. The braai places and boma at the houses are delicious and we also used the lapa facilities to braai together as a group. It is for sure a very nice place to stay and absolutely value for money.

We were welcomed warmly. The farm is very quiet and really offers space to breathe. The chalet has the basic necessities and no luxuries, but we would recommend it as a place to relax.
Nice weekend getaway not far out of town. We were pleasantly spoiled by Hennie who took us on a game drive. Well-tended gardens create a peaceful atmosphere. However, safety is an issue, but it seems to be being addressed. Maybe they can think of canopies for vehicles? Even if parking is not at every chalet, but maybe in a specific place, it will give peace of mind if the thunder and hail is a possibility. Light footpaths to large walking paths may be considered.
It was a big concern for us to see that the place is located near an informal settlement. The road to it (near the farm, not the farm itself) is littered with ash heaps from the informal settlement.
The owners are extremely hospitable and helpful. It is obviously very dry on the farm, but the scenery is still very beautiful. I saw a lot of small game and it's very quiet and peaceful.

From the friendly reception throughout the weekend, the personal attention of the owners was really pleasant, without intruding on our stay at all. The resort is a gem for someone who wants to get away for peace and quiet. If you want to enjoy the weekend among a bunch of noise holes, Utara is not the place for you. If you want to make noise and listen to doof-doof from a radio or TV all weekend, Utarar is not the place for you. I believe people come here for peace and quiet and alone time with the opportunity to socialize and enjoy the wildlife on the farm. We will visit there again and again.

At least look for music. Could have brought their own radio knowing there is no TV or radio here. Presentation: In your advertisement it is mentioned that it is nice and quiet, but bring your own small radio for news. The ground zinc plate scares many people off at first. It shakes a city car that all the screws come loose. Now it costs money again for a new vehicle service.
My husband and I were very fortunate to visit Utara over the Easter weekend. "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" is all we can say. From the beginning to the end. Hennie and Santie, you are just a blessing to our people who can come to rest with you. We long for and miss Utara already. I am already going to make another reservation on Monday for May and then again in August. It's the place to rest and relax. Thank you very much Hennie and Santie, you are beyond awesome! If you live in Pretoria or the surrounding area and you are tired of the constant barking of your neighbour's dog, motorbikes up and down the street, never-ending traffic noise and cars/ambulances with sirens, Utara is the right place for you. It's as if you close a door behind you and only experience the silence of the forest. Hennie and Santie (owners) will welcome you with open arms and go out of their way to make the time there as pleasant as possible. The accommodation is spacious, neat and comfortable and we can recommend the place with the greatest confidence.
The rondavel was well equipped, although I would have preferred a security door and burglar bars. The owners were very hospitable and did everything possible to make our stay pleasant. The uncle also took us out on a game drive and explained the workings of the farm and it was very interesting, as well as the cattle auction. Utara is an awesome getaway. The area is tranquil and the fact that it doesn't get overcrowded is great. I loved my stay there with my kids. My kids also loved the place. We were warmly welcomed and I felt right at home. I would recommend Utara to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. Also they are centrally located so one can go on day outings to all the places in the surrounding area.
My wife and I really enjoyed the tranquility of the resort. The facilities and surroundings were very neat and clean. The chalet and braai area were cleaned promptly every morning. Hennie (the host) took us for a game drive in the big game camp one morning. Giraffes, impalas, sables, nyalas and zebras were seen during the drive. Santie (the hostess) made sure we had everything we needed. The pool table has also tested and improved our snooker ingenuity.

I think they might just do something about house 4's bed. The mattress is fine but the bed creaks terribly. And then maybe an aircon - it's damn hot and you don't feel like opening the windows for your own safety as there are no burglar bars in front. So our night's rest was not very good.
The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful. The chalet was neat. The gardens are stunning. I was lucky to have cloudy weather and lovely rain while I stayed there. It was so nice and cool in November.
Unfortunately the road to Utara leads through the township, filthy surroundings with a dumping site on one side. The toilet in the chalet was not clean.

We were received very kindly and the chalets are beautiful and spacious. Santie went out of her way to make our weekend fun! We will definitely visit there again and tell all our friends about their lovely place.
My husband and I were looking for a quiet place, with a bushveld atmosphere to break away. We chose Utara and we were very surprised with what we got. The owners, uncle Hennie and aunt Santie are two dear and hospitable people. Made sure all the time that we are comfortable and that everything at the chalet is in order. The chalets have everything one needs and if you prefer, the maid will come and clean daily. The gardens, grass and plants are beautiful and you can tell they are passionate gardeners. We would go back again anytime.

It was nice to be able to stay there, and feed animals together. The game drives were also very nice. We were welcomed with open arms at Utara by Hennie and Santie Nel. From there we were taken to our chalet and handed the keys. Quiet location in nature. Children really enjoyed it with the swimming pool and climbing frame that is there.
We were welcomed with open arms, the hospitality was wonderful. They go out of their way to keep their guests happy. Can definitely recommend Utara.
Right place if you want to recover a bit after the hustle and bustle of the city, here you can get back in touch with your "inner self". The hospitality is something you only get from real genuine farmer people, will definitely go again. Close to nature and the chalets are very clean and tidy and Hennie and Santie go out of their way to make you feel at home. Close enough to town if you might have forgotten something. A gem of a place for someone who wants to get away from the city, but doesn't want to drive too far.

Utara is very nice and peaceful, the host and hostess are very helpful and friendly. We will definitely visit Utara again and definitely recommend it to anyone who just wants to rest.

Good road directions. Unfortunately we didn't have time to view wildlife and maybe we will next time. Positive criticism: The beds are hard and very creaky and the pillows too soft and we had to use two, but it still felt like we were sleeping on the mattress. We used the two plastic garden chairs to sit on. The others are too uncomfortable, with no backing. I would bring in a nice couch or comfortable chairs. I'm not sure if there were leaflets with information on what they offer and maybe emergency numbers. Thank you very much.
Chalet and resort tidy, Service and reception up to standard. Would recommend more security - burglar bars in front of windows so one can sleep with an open window. Air conditioners are also recommended - it was very hot and it made it very uncomfortable to sleep at night.

The farm comprises a part of the Nylsvley seasonal floodplain. The floodplain consists of reed and grasslands that is surrounded by typical Acacia bushveld. This means the farm is home to an abundance of bird and game species. More than 370 bird species have been identified in the area.
Mookgopong, previously known as Naboomspruit, is a quaint tree-lined town at the foot of the Waterberg. The town is a popular holiday destination with hot mineral springs, great year-round weather, nature reserves, and bush resorts drawing tourists no matter the season.
