Positive: The owners of the place are very friendly and helpful, and that's a big plus; they even turned on the heater for my arrival (it's quite surprisingly cool there in the winter). Furthermore, the unit was very clean and tidy and very well furnished (small stove-oven, bar fridge, kettle, desk, small mirror, nice double bed, and nice bathroom). The place is also very easy to find and is located in a very nice area of town, such that safety is not really an issue. Negative: The unit was cleaned without my permission or any knowledge. I really appreciate that the place is cleaned so nicely, but for people (like me) who travel with durable equipment (GPS, laptop, DSLR camera, etc.) it is not nice if all the equipment is exposed to anyone cleaning , no matter if they are seen as trustworthy or not. There should be an option for cleaning or not (ie "Do Not Disturb"). You can also quite easily hear the people in the unit next door, and if there are quite noisy neighbors (like when I was there) it becomes quite disturbing. Lastly, the shower head itself was rather dismal; at least one can come clean, but I think a small change to this would make the experience just that much more enjoyable. In conclusion, there are one or two things that could be improved, but other than that, the experience of staying at Villa Bothania was pleasant. The price is also not bad at all for what you get.

We were received very kindly by the hostess and received a very neat room. Despite the water problem in the town, Wendy and Wicus went to great lengths to supply the rooms with water. In the night around 03:30 we needed their help and they immediately came to help.

There were rat droppings on the basin, one teabag, not enough toilet paper, we had to look for someone and ask for it, floors were very dirty, shower door didn't close properly and the bathroom was flooded. There was a power outage, as it happens in our country, the owner just laughed and showed us to his generator that is not even connected. There were bugs in our beds so I don't know when last the beds were made. I asked how far they are from Castle de Wildt and they said 4 km, it was 10 km so we had to drive at night, two women alone. If I knew where they are located I would have booked somewhere else. Why give us the wrong location?
