28 guests' feedbackOur stay at Wittedrift Manor House was a fantastic experience that I would be very happy to repeat. The staff were helpful and the manager was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The atmosphere of the house was friendly and inviting. A very big thank you to the folks at Wittedrift for making our stay there such a wonderful experience.
Was absolutely wonderful and pleasant to stay at the Wittedrift Manor.
Very nice house. Full of very beautiful art. Nice pool. Had a nice breakfast. Guests may use the kitchen.
It took me back to my childhood days. It was awesome.
Beautiful Accomodation. The hosts were fantastic and friendly. The breakfast was excellent with such a good spread. Will definitely make use of this B&B again in the future. Was treated like family there.
Stay was satisfactory but not outstanding.
Summing up Wittedrift Manor House in a few words will be difficult because it has been a very interesting experience. We did have a lovely stay and would recommend Wittedrift Manor House. This is a fantastically beautiful old house. Unfortunately did not meet the owner/s because there must be incredibly rich historical background that I would have liked to experience from the owners' point of view. Not all of us like owners who want to talk about their place all the time, but in this case it would be fantastic. The reception experience was initially a bit of a disappointment because you arrive at the gate with no bell. We and other guests called after which a very friendly woman received us and checked us in. As soon as you are in the house, you are overwhelmed with the hoe roof, a large collection of beautiful and old furniture, paintings, ornaments, and giant flower arrangement. Kitchen is large and you feel like in your grandmother's kitchen, except that there is no charcoal stove with a pot of coffee on it. Bedroom is large and comfortable. Like all guest houses, there are a million loose pillows to throw on the ground when you go to sleep, but there is space for that. A variety of paintings decorate the walls, the dominant theme of paintings made me wonder if the artist has a thing for women's breasts. Shower and toilet space is spacious and comfortable. Parking is tight, but we were able to park inside the yard. Would not have been comfortable to leave my vehicle outside on the street during the night, although the guests from other places in Church Street around the corner had to leave their vehicles on the street. The entrance gate is not automatic and must be opened manually on each arrival and departure. An automatic gate would be a welcome upgrade. Breakfast is basic with a choice of scrambled or fried eggs, bacon and toast. Yogurt and muesli were also served.
A big disappointment. Although a beautiful manor house with some nice antiques, the general feel was 'tired' and run down. Then the clientele - it appears to be run as a hostel, with various people cooking curry in the kitchen, brewing up stews and then eating in the lounge etc. Very uncomfortable. Sad.
We were only there for one day, will definitely want to visit there in the summer and then want to stay a little longer.
The house, although built since the earthquake, is amazing. Really interesting. And we weren't expecting the great breakfast.
Room disappointing. Too much clutter. Smell of cat urine. Had a huge exercise machine in the room with us. Bed was comfortable though. Parking was secure. More tea and coffee would have been good.
The guest house doesn't look at all like it does in the photos. The room had a very strong smell of pine gel and we could hardly breathe. We then complained and got another room which was better. Our breakfast was included but the managers were very incompetent during breakfast and made us feel very uncomfortable. I would not recommend the guest house. The house is very old-fashioned and lacks decor. Less is more!
It felt like we were stepping back in history with the beautiful Cape Dutch house. Carol went out of her way to welcome us and make us feel at home.
It was very nice to stay there.
We arranged for extra services for a wedding couple, and exceeded expectations! Thank you very much.
Cleanliness and comfortable sleeping facilities 10 out of 10 - comfortable atmosphere and nice surroundings. Wooden gate at entrance needs attention for better entry and exit.
Exceeding expectations and beautiful surroundings.
Hostess, owner and staff are very friendly, helpful. Fantastic architecture, decor and artwork. Perfect location in Tulbagh.
A fabulous experience.
Friendly reception in a beautiful old Cape Dutch house with interesting decor and a lovely log fire on a cold, rainy evening.
Wittedrift Manor House is chock full of art and antiques and a feast for the eyes for those who like to visit markets and enjoy an old fashioned experience. The rooms are comfortable and there is a nice communal kitchen where everyone hangs out and Carol, the managers, makes breakfast. The pool and patio area outside is also lovely after a long day of walking around. We enjoyed Tulbagh and hope to visit more. Carol went to great lengths to make our stay enjoyable and is also a handy tour guide.
Had a great time and felt welcome.
A beautiful house, where one feels at home the moment one enters it. This only gets better meeting the hosts, who will do whatever to make your stay as nice as possible. PJ took us on his daily walk to show end tell us about the surroundings of Tulbach: a marvellous experience. He is an entertainer by heart and soul! We sort of felt like a king and queen.
House has nice atmosphere and well equipped kitchen. Room is neat and nice and warm.
Images on website do not do proper justice to how beautiful the inside is. The staff is super friendly.
The reception was initially a bit disappointing because we had to wait for the hostess to arrive. After this everything was very nice. Friendly, helpful lady. Delicious breakfast and a warm house amid the cold outside. The fireplace in the lounge and a heater in our bedroom was quite cosy. The kind hostess also put the electric blankets on while we were out for dinner! And what a beautiful town!
The decor is very interesting and Carol's welcome was warm. The rooms, however, are dusty, the kitchen sink stank and the wooden furniture are screaming for a wax. The general impression is one of neglect (which is a pity).
