I would recommend Groenhoek to anyone looking for affordable accommodation in the northern Drakensberg. The facilities were good, tidy and value for money. The caretaker was friendly and very helpful.

We got there in the dark and woke up the next morning to the most beautiful view. We have been going to Clarens for years and staying at different places, but this was definitely one of the nicest places. If you don't want to stay within Clarens and want to get away, the place is definitely for you! The place is spacious and tidy. Will definitely return again.

Had a good experience. The view was very beautiful and the facilities were up to standard. Just one small thing, the gas geyser couldn't get the tub that hot when we were there. Furthermore, it was very nice to sit there on the deck and look at the mountains.

The location was not as remote and isolated as I had hoped, but the units were clean, and the place was largely quiet enough to be able to sleep in in the mornings, albeit that the cabins are fitted with light roller blinds that let in a lot of light.
It's a very nice place, but one morning we had no water at all due to not the cold. However, I feel that the owner can only warn one in advance that everyone took a bath the night before and took water with them for toothbrushes. There are also places on the site where there are open cables sticking out on the way to the children's climbing frame, and the swing was broken and just left on the ground. It's a very cute place and we will definitely go again, but there are a few things they could fix and maintain more for future customers.
Beautiful setting, excellent addition to have heated blankets on the beds as it gets very cold in winter, cosy fireplace and beautiful sunrises.

Everything you need for self-catering and perfectly comfortable. But don't expect a 5-star hotel room. Needs some light maintenance on chalets. There is a great hike from just behind the chalets going as far as you want to make of it. Good location for visiting Clarens and Golden Gate.
Spectacular views on a lovely farm. Our family took up one cabin with two beds and two en suite baths (no showers) and another couple took up one of the one bedroom cabins. The owner went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

The overall stay was enjoyable. However, some parts of the farm/cabin need some maintenance. If the owners fix these up, it can be a five-star stay.
Units run-down, tub and toilets stained, not good value for money in terms of what they are charging.
Problems experienced: 1. No reception, call them and they would meet us at the chalets on Friday afternoon. Drove on Monday and still waiting. 2. They don't answer calls. Normal line or WhatsApp. 3. On Saturday morning, one chalet's guest was finished. No hot water. No phone is answered. 4. The gate at the entrance was bent, 1 person with a lot of difficulty could open the gate. Two persons could not close the gate completely. 5. Bathroom sink had no hot water. The faucet could turn almost 360°, was completely loose. 6. Some of the kitchen cupboard doors are falling off. All could not close. 7. The 1 bedside lamp's wall plug made a short circuit. Couldn't use it. 8. Etc.

The cabin is exactly what you can expect based on the photos. Secluded, peaceful, quiet and calm. A stone's throw from Clarens and the Golden Gate Highlands National Park.

The only downfall is the shower head doesn't work, it only lets out cold water so you have to bath.
A little bit of a bumpy check-in at first, but once we were settled it was the most amazing experience. We recommend doing the full hike which includes going down the river and past the cave. It is however challenging, moderate - difficult, with steep inclines so wear appropriate gear. We had hoped for on-site catering, however, this was unavailable but there are a few restaurants in the area including activities. Quad biking is available on-site, a single automatic and manual quad bike. Horse riding is available as well but the horse riding on the neighbouring farm specialises in trail riding. We were lucky to catch some of the very shy game. The cabins are as represented in the photos, spacious and comfortable! The farm provided us with firewood, even topped us up when it was raining and the kitchen is fully catered for including a gas stove. I had no network access however my partner had limited access. We did have access to DSTV for entertainment. Overall our stay was beautiful and peaceful, the hosts were very informative and helpful. We mostly enjoyed viewing the stars on clear nights and the patio views early in the morning.
Close to Golden Gate Nature Reserve which makes it ideal for hiking.
I don't think I would recommend for the following reasons. One can observe that maintenance of the place is deteriorating. The hot water tap in the kitchen did not work. We informed and asked for it to be repaired. It was not done. I made a plan myself to get hot water in the kitchen. Both faucets in the bathroom hand basin were not functioning. Cold water tap not at all, hot water tap opens a little. But no hot water. As advertised there should have been a hairdryer which was not there. We informed and asked them to please. sort out. They did after a few hours. The WiFi was on and off, and on the last day it didn't function at all. We didn't report it, because by then we were a bit tired of being asked. Overall you can tell the place is going downhill and I don't believe it's good value for that type of money.
Overall beautiful and relaxing area. Lafikeng cabin needs some repairs (cupboard door loose, toilet roof leaking, bathroom tap is loose, etc. ). Checked-in at 15:30 and cleaner was still busy cleaning (argued that check-in time was not 14:00). Bathtub was not properly cleaned. Otherwise, good stay.
I planned a birthday for my fiancé and after seeing the photos of Yarona Guest Farms, I decided on this for the ideal stay. I had to pay R2530 in full for the booking. On Thursday we traveled a long distance to Clarens and only stopped at Yarona Guest Farms very late. 1. Facilities get a 0 from me. There were no towels, no coffee facilities and the TV and hairdryer were also absent. The next morning at 9 o'clock someone left a TV on the balcony couch for us. 2. The house where we stayed is not maintained, the skirting board of the entertainment area hangs on its mercy, the balcony's floor nails you have to look out for and definitely not where you can walk around barefoot. 3. Safety gets a 0 from me - The porch has nails that easily stick out 4 cm and if you don't look carefully, you will cut yourself badly. The trampoline is now just an empty hole, not at all safe for children to play in that area. I feel like I wasted my money with this booking and after 48 hours of complaining to the website I'm still waiting for a response.
